Spielberg is one of the greatest directors of all time and anyone who says otherwise is a contrarian c**t
>but his recent movies haven't been as amazing and generation defining pieces of pop culture like they were in the 70's and the 80's and the 90's and the 00's so therefore he is terrible
dumb argument, a few mid movies in old age don't negate the decades of top tier kino the man produced

Spielberg is an absolute fricking dullard and his movies are an exercise in tedium. There's not a single Spielberg in the list of 500 movies I'd consider rewatching at any give point.
List 5 filmmakers you like. 3 preferably from the last 30 years.
This is always such a stupid and probably insincere question. Three of anything is never any sort of representation of tastes and it still won't make me like Spielberg.
Lars Von Trier
Andrea Arnold
Steve McQueen
You can list more than three. Cowards usually shy away, so I suggested 3. Still...
>Lars Von reddit
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
Oh no it was an insincere question! How could anyone possibly have seen this coming? How embarrassing for me.
>Lars Von Trier
>Andrea Arnold
>Steve McQueen
The absolute state of this board
If your tastes don't match up maybe you should go elsewhere.

I formerly liked Chuck's
Peter Weir
Gore Verbinski
PTA
Chris Columbus
And Howard Hughes captured Americana better than Spielberg ever could.
Denis Villeneuve
Stanley Kubrick
Christopher Nolan
Paul Anderson
Frank Darabont
Sam Raimi
And on...And on...And On...Kneel down b***h.
Truth.

Aren't these the mongoloids who argue Jaws is the greatest movie of all time?
Jaws is definitely up there.
show you work then, coward!!
shut the frick up
Watch a Bergman or a Godard movie and then tell me if this homosexual can be considered great.
nah he is easily the best director there ever was, his talent is astounding. watching his 70s films in particular put me in a depression. no director ever reached heights like that. I say this as one who worships bergman and godard.
Bergman's alright but frick Godard
Agreed. This board is filled with too many contrarian morons.
Her name was Heather O’Rourke

Welcome back anon.
His adventure, family flicks are better than his le epic serious dramas.
Thanks. Just finished a 3 day ban.
What did they get you for?
I posted a pic of Taylor Swift & Karlie Kloss at the Victoria Secret show in an off topic thread that had turned into a Taylor coom thread. kek!
Jannies increasingly punishing people who even participate in off topic threads huh.
Well, it was a lingerie pic, and I mentioned that it would have been great to see them licking each other's pussies. 😉 I've been participating in plenty of off-topic threads that have been deleted with no trouble. Prolly some trannie jannie who was envious of the lingerie sexiness. kek!
Spielberg is a nepobaby?
No, but he is about as born-in-the-purple as you can get in the business. One of the execs at Paramount took a liking to him when he first went to work there, and he was directing in a very short time.
Typical israelite.
you forgot the fact he used to go paramount studios illegally and used to bother hitchock
on his movie sets. hitchwiener once allegedly said "get this israelite off my movie set!" although this was never proven and might have been just a Hollywood myth.
>hitchwiener once allegedly said "get this israelite off my movie set!"
wtf. hitchwiener was based???
Isn’t “nepobaby” and “born-in-the-purple” interchangable terms? Especially when you’re taking about Hollywood israelites?
he snuck into universal studios and got his first job by basically tricking the studio into thinking he already worked there
that's not nepotism, that's guts, and thats why you will never be half the director he was
the israeli part is not that relevant with spielberg, when you are a filmmaker on the level of mozart it doesn't matter what religion you were.
>religion
You can still tell by his face he’s a israelite even if he converted to Hinduism.
>comparing Spielberg to Mozart
Do israelites really
AHAHAHAHAH
you seriously needed to check?
Imagine having this screenshot saved on your computer as if Spielberg being israeli isn't literally common knowledge. Schizo behavior
Every time
I remember me and my mom went to watch Super 8. She was thinking it was a racing movie, I wanted to go see Transformers 3. We left the theater as it being our favorite film to watch together. I watch it once a year now, and I know she's watching with me.
Super 8 is by JJ Abrams, kek.
oops
thought Speilberg had something to do with it
Producer
ah okay
Up until I read this thread I thought his last name was Spiedelberg.
Pedophile.
he made popcorn schlock at best and propaganda at worst. also he supposedly molested kids so there's that.
I won't deny he has decent directing skills, and I really wish George Lucas had the same drive as him to direct because out of the two he clearly was the real genius.
Directing isn't just about having great ideas, you need a lot of social skills and Lucas is a massive assburger.
Heather O'rourke
was never proven.
He is great, although he too went a bit senile with age. Happens to all of them.
Spielberg movies are equivalent to being served goyslop by the best chef in the world.
Being good at cliches still takes talent, and he established a lot of them.
You are a moron
Then so is every author who ever established any trope which we now take for granted.
He indirectly called him as the best filmmaker in the world. You really are a dumb frick...
No he didn't, he called him the best goyslop maker.
All the Indy movies are bad to mid.
OY VEY THIS LOOKS LIKE A GOOD BOOK. I'LL TAKE IT.
He was.
He set a lot of standards in storytelling, is pivotal to the direction of the industry, made the careers of so many people happen AND probably should have retired around 2010.
Jurassic Park is in the running for best movie ever made. How can you not love it?
Cinemaphile anons can (and will) pretend to hate anything and everything.
I literally saw a Jurassic Park hate thread on this very board, so you're not wrong.
I kind of like that because eventually all the good movies get shat on and people can only praise the bottom of the barrel which makes them look dumb.
I dont know why people like it so much even having seen it as a child, it didn't leave that much of an impression on me. just le heckin dinosaurinos I guess?
Spielberg excels in this kind of childhood wonderment. Arguably his best stuff are just that, something you'd watch on a saturday morning and remember it forever. I think there’s value in that kind of art. Very few could do it as well as he can(Scorsese's Hugo for example is completely forgettable). He's also insanely good at blocking a scene which helps him milk all the drama in every scene in these kinds of films.
On the other hand, his serious drama films have aged poorly. His strengths at making adventure films make his dramas feel overwrought and hamfisted. That and I don't think he has anything interesting to say. Imo, he's like an insanely talented NPC who is in constant state of arrested development.
Spielberg could never be a great american filmmaker. He was not a true pioneer or innovator in the medium and he can't connect with true americana due to his exclusionary israeli perspective and identity. His only claim is making glib pop trash.
Americans have no identity of their own, who gives a shit. You mutts should be thankful some heebs made good cinema that will last for the ages.
#187607725
Weak bait. No (You) for you.
He needs to come back and do a big blockbuster again and put these zoomers in their place
I dont think he has it in him, it's been like 20 years since he did a homerun
If he dies within the next 2-3 years, he’ll be remembered for going out normalising incest with the Tiny Toons reboot. Of course he’s based!
I know since the beginning he’s only been a figurehead for those Ruegger cartoons, but it was still his decision to produce them.
OH LOOK THE GUY THAT MADE THE MEGA HOLOCAUST MOVIE JUSTIFING ISRAEL'S EXISTANCE, HE SURE IS THE GREATEST GOAT AM I RIGHT CinemaphileRAELIS?
Lose less wars Ahmed
Terry Gilliam was always better. And his flops came from the interference of studios, unlike Spielberg who by the end had complete control. The really crazy part is that movies like Brazil actually did pretty well, and Gilliam also made the greatest dwarf movie ever made. About the only "greatest" I associate Spielberg with is "shabbos goy".
Brazil was a snooze fest that lasted 2 hours more than it should have
More entertaining to watch LiveLeak Brazilian favela videos.
For someone like who types like that and has Shit Hop mumbling weakly through his Beats by Dr Chink headphones, it would be. It was even at the time it was released to most Americans. And it still did well. That was the entire point, Tyrone Brainiac Jnr III. That's what great directors do: make a wide variety of films. Very different from Life of Brian and Time Bandits, that's for sure.
Sorry. Incorrect. Brazil is a fricking masterpiece. Truly a brilliant movie.
Wasn’t Hitler trans
He was good, but even then he really only excelled at one type of movie. Whenever he would venture too far outside of the pulpy pop magic of Raiders of the Lost Ark or Jurassic Park, he would inevitably fall flat on his face. Nobody actually likes movies like Schindler's List, they just know they're supposed to be important.
Stanley Kubrick, in contrast, could effortlessly hop genres and tones and knocked it out of the park more times than he didn't. Spielberg could never make a story with the simple, unrelenting beauty of Barry Lyndon, or the deeply cynical menace of A Clockwork Orange, or the cold grandeur of 2001.
'Munich' and 'Minority Report' were great.
He's easily in my top five and probably the most effortlessly talented living filmmaker
1. E.T. The Extra Terrestrial
2. Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom
3. Jaws
4. Poltergeist (of course he did)
5. Hook
6. Close Encounters of the Third Kind
7. Raiders of the Lost Ark
8. Jurassic Park
9. Schindler's List
10. Saving Private Ryan
11. Duel
12. Ready Player One
13. A.I.
14. War of the Worlds
15. Minority Report
16. Indiana Jones and the Kindgom of the Crystal Skull
17. War Horse
18. Catch me if you Can
19. Empire of the Sun
20. Munich
21. West Side Story
22. The Terminal
23. 1941
24. Amistad
25. Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade
26. Bridge of Spies
27. Lincoln
28. The Lost World
You forgot the color purple and tin tin
Haven't seen them
Or Fabelmans or Sugarland Express
The only one of his I actively like is Catch Me If You Can. I can't believe you'd put it so low.
JP should be at the top of the list for changing how movies were made forever.
Jaws was far more influential than JP was
Every major studio based their business model around its success
He WAS good. His 00's onward sucked.
>Spielberg is one of the greatest directors of all time and anyone who says otherwise is a contrarian c**t
yeah he is in top 25 easily
Pedo israelite
but enough about you
Kill all pedophiles
He made tintin, so all is forgiven
