They committed war crimes at the end of the movie. Dozens, if not hundreds, of innocent people died on the airfield and those monitoring the underground uranium plant.

The FA-18 is still in service, it's not cutting edge top of the line but it's not an old busted piece of shit

I know it's a contrivance for the movie since the Navy wouldn't let them fly actual F-35s, but as much of a waste of money as the JSF plan has been it's hilarious that the DoD approved a script that depicts the F-35 as an easily sabotaged, unreliable craft lmao

Helps them hide what it can really do if people underestimate it, and if the public believes that it can be defeated and that there is a risk of not having the tech edge, then they can sell the idea of the next fighter more easily.

The F-35 is supposed to be in service until 2070, I hope to god Lockheed Martin doesn't find a way to israelite another $1 trillion from the DoD for a fighter that is .0001% better than what they already use anytime soon

Also it wasn't a warhead factory. Enrichment plant (although even if it were a warhead factory, bombing other countries during peacetime is usually considered to be unsportsmanlike). Insidious how the filmmakers manage to equate the two, to the point that apparently even people like you think they're the same thing. The movie really is trying to make the idea of bombing Iran more palatable to the audience.

Causalities inflicted has nothing to do with it. In Vietnam the US was decisively winning the military conflict right up until they left. While Afghanistan was actually a military disaster; twenty years, thousands of lives, and billions of dollars spent fighting a war ineffectually. After the initial invasion basically zero progress was ever made on the anti-insurgent front, defeat was more or less acknowledged years ago.

This movie is pure American Exceptionalism and it's awesome. I love America. Frick you leftist ingrates

Even Chapo Trap House gushed about how amazing the movie is. I'm a leftist troony and based Tom probably made the greatest blockbuster of the 21st century.

If you hate this movie, you literally hate fun. Yeah, it's a jingoist piece of war propaganda, but the movie makes no political statements or advocates for any specific action against any specific nation, so I think it's fine to enjoy it as long as you realize that it's fiction

Maverick was making no effort to surrender and considering he immediately stole a plane and shot down 2 more aircraft, you can argue that he was still a legitimate target

When he ran away yes, but it started its attack run while he was still tangled up in his chute, they didn’t give him any opportunity to surrender

      Anonymous

the 14 was actually good everything they did in it was realistic the manual wingsweep and the diff thrust

although he made a serious BFM error against the 57 when it cobraed tom could have done a high loop and killed him since he killed his eg state and would deep stall trying to go nose high for a shot

what people dont realise about the cobra is your departing the plane from controlled flight and have to nose down to recover a flatspin

in dcs the su27 if it gets into an inverted flatspin is impossable to recover

im a dcs austist with several thousand hours in bfm its all i do

for the most part the movie is accurate but they throw Energy managment out of the window in favour for flashyuness

love how realistic that downward spiral scene is although they were too close for dramatic effect but been in that situtation hundreds of times in dcs it really is first one tro chicken out loses

          Anonymous

          also last thing

the russians dont like to admit this but pretty much anyplane can do the cobra the west just realise how shit it is like ive done it in the dcs hornet just need to pull breakers 3 and 4 to disengage flight computer

also the scene where they pull the g limit override seemed like it was put in for the dcs dogfighters

irl pilots jump on bfm discord and get raped and complain we use the glimit override and thats why they lose lmao

honestly one of the best jet film amazed how realistic it was top gun 1 wasent very realistic

    >we have this advanced airplane that is supposed to be better in every fricking way.
    >let us instead use this old as piece of crap, which was already around when the original movie was filmed 36 years ago

    >the navy now needs 60 year old fighter pilots, because the younglings are not skilled enough

    >we need to have an F14 in the movie - which is the only plane the actually was made for the big screen - but they have been retired from service for over 15 years in our country and the only other country to have them, has not been able to supply them with parts since 1980.
    >it will win a dogfight against modern fighter jets easily, just cause

    >maverick still hitten on them admirals daughters
    >maverick still going up the skies to find goose in heaven...

dear god, you can't make this up. *it is the perfect sequel* to the original Top Gun - because that movies storyline was totally nonsensical, too.

the action and cinematography was really good though, which alone should be enough to warrant an oscar for the movie, because as it appears, modern movies - overusing CGI having bad effects - is normal...
