I'm thinking of going back and rewatching SpongeBob from the beginning, where should I stop? Is there a rock-bottom point like with the Simpsons?

Seasons 1, 2, 3, and the movie. That's it.
Wow, kind of crazy only 3 are considered ''great'' while the rest is written off, but I remember the movie with Antonio Banderas as the antagonist being good, why did you write it off?
OG movie > Sandy Movie > Sponge out of water > Sponge on the run
That movie only got major hate because people were mad it ruins the value of the original movie and the marketing made the super forms a bigger deal than they were in the movie. It was fine, just a situation like Incredibles where it's hard to beat the original.
>it's hard to beat the original.
That's always the case for animated movies.
The third movie is just awful
The hate it gets is well-deserved
>is just awful
is it?
>retcons everything established in season 1, shitting on Hillenburg's ideas in the process
>rehashes the "Gary gets lost" plot from another previous season
>a 3rd King Neptune redesign for no reason
>CGI looks awful, plot makes no sense, jokes are bad, soundtrack is cringe
>it ultimately serves no purpose as the whole thing was made to set up fricking Kamp Koral, which doesn't even use the same designs from the movie kek
> just a situation like Incredibles
Where the sequel is legitimately awful?
Kill all SpongeBoomers
Why do you have a thing for modern Spongebob?
How are any of the things on the pic not true?
I’m no purist but that image does a lousy job of presenting “spongeboomers” as unreasonable when it’s literally just pointing out that they’re putting respect on the creator’s name more than Nickelodeon’s.
I saw everything from season 1-10 as I grew up and besides some stuff here or there in like season 4 and 5, the second film, and maybe season 9 it's really not worth recommending most content of this franchise besides everything that came before like 2004-2005.
And why do you want to do that?
Do you at least give season 4 and 5 a chance here?
This, but fear of the krabby patty, Krusty towers, and the crane are good S4 episodes
Anything else, First Post Senpai?
I think there are more good seasons than some anons would admit. I just say to skip the ones that starts to bore or annoy you. Some of the seasons people claim were bad did had a nice episode or two.
I see your point, do you have any recs for good episodes in later seasons?
I haven't replied in this thread yet, but Krusty Towers, Have You Seen This Snail, The Two Faces of Squidward, Mimic Madness, Dunces and Dragons, and Sand Castles in the Sand are some fan favorites from after season 3
Thanks, bud. I will definitely check them out.
>no mermaid man and barnacle boy the movie
>no lost mattress
>no wishing you well
>no selling out
literally all of these are near season 3 tier
seasons 1-5, skip until season 9 and continue from there on. rock bottom is generally considered season 7 since it has the worst episodes. for me it's season 6 because that's when the dip really starts to show even if there are a couple of okay episodes. for the movies, i liked the first and second ones. but you can just watch them and see how you feel i guess. try not to listen to anons or nostalgiagays online that say only the first 3 seasons are good.
season 4: skill crane, have you seen this snail, dunces and dragons, fear of a krabby patty, krusty towers
season 5: roller cowards
season 8: it's a spongebob christmas
season 9: food con castaways, bulletin board (the Cinemaphile episode)
season 10: whirly brains, mermaid pants, mimic madness, life insurance
season 11: legend of boo-kini bottom, stuck on the roof, krabby patty creature feature, mustard o mine, chefbob, squid noir
Thanks for the comprehensive answer.
>try not to listen to anons or nostalgiagays
I guess, nostalagiagays tend to see things in black and white, no in-between.
>rock bottom is generally considered season 7 since it has the worst episodes
Rock Bottom was in season 1
I'd add two faces of squidward to season 5, not normal to season 6, and Karen's virus to season 11
>two faces of squidward
that episode sucks and it's only remembered because of handsome squidward meme
That makes it a good episode
Season 5 is outright trash, it's where they started with the whole extremely graphic and gross scenes and exaggerated facial expressions
I would also throw in Two Thumbs Down from S9 just for this scene. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8doHZfSjbj0
is Spongebub good again?
I highly doubt it, didn't the OG creator die?
They've gotten a lot more ambitious. Just look at the screencap you posted. That angle goes fricking HARD.
Someone working on the show must have to looked up the "All Things Must Go" image
Considering they referenced Squidwards Suicide, it wouldn’t surprise me if this was intentional
>Is there a rock-bottom point like with the Simpsons?
Yes.
Seasons 1 & 2, then consider stopping.
If you've watched beyond the credits of Krusty Towers you've gone too far.
Seasons 1-5 and 9 are mostly great all the way through. 6-8 is the dark age with many shit episodes but there are still quite a few great ones in there. Seasons 10-15 are a mixed bag due to the new direction but Season 13 had a lot of great episodes that surprised me. So I'd just go through it with an open mind. The first two movies are also great, but the first one is an all time classic, and the Battle for Bikini Bottom video game is one of the best platformers I think, ever. It's a genuinely amazing game.
Looks like you're a real SpongeBob aficionado.
I've been a fan since I was 4 and I have collected a shit ton of stuff based upon it, so yeah I probably am. I have almost every episode on DVD or tape and a whole collection of merch. I try to say I've never been a mega fan of anything but SpongeBob is probably the only case where I actually am.
And for that i also may be biased because of this, most people are probably right with
if you are absolutely picky about quality, Krusty Towers is absolutely a good place to stop, but there's a lot of weird and fun ones after that through season six.
Because there are quite a few great episodes in the first half. Roller Cowards, Breath of Fresh Squidward, Bucket Sweet Bucket, Krabs a La Mode, Friend or Foe, Sing a Song of Patrick, and there's a few more I'm sure. Second half after Atlantis SquarePantis, not to much.
>but there's a lot of weird and fun ones after that through season six.
I don't watch cartoons for random weird/fun episodes in mostly bad seasons. I watch cartoons for good episodes that are entertaining or memorable overall.
So, for instance, if a show has 15 bad episodes and 1 good episode, I just don't watch it.
That's fine. That's why I said if you are like that you can stop after Krusty Towers. Problem solved.
You can rip on the writing all you want but there is absolutely quality put into the production of seasons 10-15. Best animation on kids television.
>whole collection of merch.
Care to show some of it? Also, what do you think of the spinoffs Nickelodeon made?
It's in so many different boxes now and I'm so busy this weekend. If this thread was any other weekend or stays up long enough I might do it but between my sisters' birthday dinner with the family and the Super Bowl party tomorrow it's gonna be hard to make a case to dig up all my shit out with so little time.
As for the spin-offs, I actually kind of dig The Patrick Star Show, I got a good laugh out of it. Not all of them are good but it's decent. Kamp Koral just sucked though, and I hated the third movie for that too
It just feels like blatant soulless franchising than making a universe that makes sense.
It's cool, thanks for sharing your opinion.
why do zoomers try to lump in season 5 with the classic seasons
It's widely agreed upon that the first 3 seasons and the first movie are the stopping point. Hillenburg wanted to end the series and left working on it after the third season in any major capacity an the quality went down hill heavily almost immediately.
Simpsons has varying quality
If you think 9/6/8/10-15 have any actual quality I'm not sure anyone should be taking your advice.
First 3 seasons are good with no misses. Season 4 hits the same highs as the classic seasons, but starts having some not good episodes. As the seasons go on the high points keep getting more rare, the low points keep getting more common, and overall quality goes down. Unironically just watch until you don't think it's worth it anymore.
Give me the Spongebob.
I need more Spongebob
Alright. Where's Spongebob?
Spongebob was really something, huh?
There's a few winners in S4, worth checking out.
It's like modern Simpsons now. They're aware that the show is stagnant and do something novel sometimes, and it turns out pretty good.
Seasons 1 to 4 if you like soft hearted stuff, if you like zany animation I’d recommend Seasons 10 to 12
