Is this worth watching? I'm not really into sci-fi and I didn't like Star Wars at all but I'm currently free and this show has a lot of episodes per season and is available on Netflix.

No, TNG is much better
It's a more traditional form of sci-fi than you have access to on modern television.
Science allows humans to do a thing, and carry it to the point of being irresponsible. Learn and move on.
If you don't like traditional sci-fi, then maybe it's not for you.
I watched it for the first time during lockdown and enjoyed it. The main cast is really good
Vger
it's the only series of star trek worth watching if you like actual sci-fi instead of long-form character development. the quality of episodes is very patchy but the best are great and hugely influential (e.g. Alien is a ripoff of The Devil In The Dark).
>Alien is a ripoff of The Devil In The Dark
They both have a strange alien that kills people but that's about where the similarities end.
Eggs. Both have eggs.
True but Alien only has one egg that matters to the plot and the eggs in the Star Trek episode don't hatch.
They do hatch at the end
acid for blood. getting eliminated one by one as you creep around an alien hive of tunnels.
and I forgot: silicone-based life
I don't think the Horta had blood, also they never say that the alien in Alien is silicon-based. Also in that episode the aliens are intelligent and able to communicate and cooperate peacefully.
BTW how is silicon-based life expected to be biologically compatible with a human?
TNG is good too. I started again at season 4 and have liked almost every episode, currently halfway through season 5. I remember the first few seasons trying to find their stride but they are prob worth checking out too
they are, the episodes that suck do totally blow ass though
It remains the best Star Trek show, but season 3 is a disaster with only a handful of good episodes.
Woah. Is she in the 1968 show?
Nah, DS9 from the 90's
no that's deep space 9
It's not really sci-fi and it's not really star wars either so give at go.
>It's not really sci-fi
?
Nothing about it is based on science.
>fiction based on imagined future scientific or technological advances and major social or environmental changes, frequently portraying space or time travel and life on other planets
IMAGINED
>not really into sci-fi
This is going to be a problem
>I didn't like Star Wars
Star Trek is nothing like Star Wars
It is this little gem from the 60's. Obviously dated in a lot of ways and hardly for everybody. There's a bunch of well written episodes though, and the character dynamics between Kirk-Spock-McCoy are legendary. Make of that what you will.
There are definite reasons to watch it but your enjoyment will hinge a lot on whether the super low budget 60s vibe enhances or detracts from the experience for you.
Yes just watch the original 79 episodes, they are beautifully produced and a breezy show. Everything else after this is boring mundane horribly written drama.
Star Trek best American sci fi TV show ever.
It's absolutely worth watching. It could change your life
Yes, but you have to view it within the technical limitations of the time it was made. Some of the aliens and sets look really silly and you have to accept those limitations to enjoy the show.
It's also quite a lot slower and with less action than a modern sci Fi show. Most of the runtime is dialogue and set up rather than constant action and quips. Zoomers have a hard time with TOS because it moves very slowly.
Yeah, I am enjoying it and almost done with season 1. The first few episodes are a bit weak, but it finds its voice relatively quickly and it has some very strong hitters. Don't think of it as a modern neutered show with seasonal storytelling, today's plotlines that writers stretch for a season are usually a one or in rare cases two episodes deal in classic Star Trek. If you aren't into premise of some episodes (and there are some misses) you can just go for next one, it's great.
>available on Netflix.
Original or "remastered" version?
Sorry, I haven’t started watching it yet.
