This is going to be a controversial opinion, but Lower Decks is actually reasonably good Star Trek. It does have a lot of flaws (the animation is shit, the characters are way too flippant, and the humor is often bottom of the barrel lowbrow), but it is a lot closer to the original format of Star Trek than shit like Discovery or Picard. The stuff with the Pakleds was brilliant. Maybe Lower Decks could be better, but if you had to choose a direction for Trek going forward and your choices were DEEP DRAMA AND POLITICS (Picard/Discovery) or EPISODIC ZANY HUMOR WITH LOTS OF REFERENCES AND A FEW GOOD IDEAS (Lower Decks), you pick Lower Decks.
