Whats the correct order to watch star wars for someone that has never seen it?
>4-5-1-2-3-6

or
>1-2-3-4-5-6
this is what lucas wants you to watch.
disney gays need not apply.

none of the other ones because they are garbage. the story was never "really about Vader" until some psued losers tried to sound impressive in college film class in the early 90s and Lucas, that fat frick, just ran with it.

      yeah, I agree
I wish star wars had been about non connected events instead of this great timeline of happenings with the same people, the same lineage, the same goals

yep. there was never a "chosen one" in the original trilogy or any indication that these people were special for any other reason than merit. even the Force was just something you had to believe in to do it, there was no special gift. anakin wasn't some super hero of justice who fought an epic battle with Obi Wan, he was some pilot who crashed his space ship and then turned coat.
the jedi weren't an order, they were just monks who traveled around getting into adventures like Caine in Kung Fu. the jedi didn't wear special robes, they just wore whatever clothes were available and practical. the lightsaber was a ceremonial weapon, not even necessarily an important one.
all of that shit came from bad fanfiction that Lucas shoves into the prequels because he ran out of ideas

And it's actually a lot more continuous/cohesive than people give it credit for, there are small holes but the plot for the PT was clearly derived from the OT's canon. And the pottery meme is real, Ep 1 rhymes with 4, 2 rhymes with 5, 3 rhymes with 6, lots of parallels to see

      Some things I noticed

      >Episode 1 vs 4: Obviously the talented youth from Tatooine getting discovered, allusions to great flying talent, end the episode with taking down a ship
      >Episode 2 vs 5: Geonosis/Hoth parallels, one sees the good guys invading a sanctuary planet while the baddies flee and then the other way around, Luke/Anakin go off to carve their own paths and search their souls, both choose arrogance and get punished as a result in a final fight. Both choose fear in rushing off to save their mother/friends against the word of wiser guides. You see both of their arrogance in this one and while Yoda accepts it in 2 he is highly resistant and skeptical of Luke in 5. If you didn't know the ending in 6 you might suspect Luke is following the same path.
      >Episode 3/6: Both Luke/Anakin appear more serious and grounded in these as well as cynical and borderline sociopathic. Both have no issue killing people when necessary now and adopt darker apparel. Both face a serious temptation from the emperor at the end, and Luke chooses the path of light where his father failed. It's funny that people make fun of the NOOOOOOOO at the end of Ep 3, because it's the exact same thing Vader says at the end of Ep 6 with NO.. NO... NOOO and you know he remembers the pain of losing Padme in that moment and that's what brings him back into the light as well to save his son.

    1 2 3 just very obviously assume you’ve seen 4 5 6, it’s impossible for them not to.

Release order is the only way.

Yes but the delivery in Japanese is absurd. The dub is pretty bad in general, but I assume they had to shorten sentences so it would still somewhat align with the mouth movements.

Watching prequels first ruins it. They're no longer prequels, and the OT feels small and 'boring' afterwards. It takes away all wonder and mystery. You already know Obi-wan and there's no "being interested in the story of this old man then finding out he used to be a great warrior and has fantastical abilities that he can teach Luke". You already know Yoda, and there's no being fooled by the weird, eccentric little green guy in the swamp who is actually a great master. It's a silly thing to even contemplate watching prequels first.

You're wrong. It's much grander to see the fall of the Republic and of Anakin, then entering a dark age and seeing things finally redeemed in the last minutes of RotJ.

        >It's much grander to see the fall of the Republic and of Anakin
It would be if it wasn't so jarring to go from early 2000 level film making to 1977-1983 Sci-fi film making. Maybe if you're rewatching the entire series it's fun to just go in a straight line past the story. Also if you're a fan of film making in general you might not care about newer, old, newest sort of effects etc. Yet some kid new to Star Wars etc? They are just going to be let down going from prequel light saber fights etc........ to what looks like two old guys just swinging sticks around in Ep 4. Never mind the CGI or more the lack of it.
So new viewers? Watch in release order. Start with the OG trilogy so you get the vibe of what it was like for everyone to see Star Wars and think it was all wrapped up by Return of the Jedi. Then plow past the meh prequels as a decent back story and then wrap it all up with the last 3 films.

I can see where you're coming from but I think seeing the Republic turn into the Empire, and seeing Anakin's fall and then eventual redemption, beats not knowing who wacky Yoda and Obi Wan are.

what you do is watch the original trilogy because they are fun solid sci fi romps with fun worldbuilding, and then never consume any other star wars media ever again, with the exception of the handful of the best video games (i.e. KOTOR)
