Started watching some 50/60s Tom and Jerry episodes, and I gotta say, I've never genuinely laughed so much at a cartoon as much as I do with Tom and Jerry. It's just so good and gets me every single time.

Tom and Jerry is really a cut above, I’m talking in terms of animation. It’s just the best animated cartoon of all time, that’s all. You wonder how Hanna barbera did it because usually their cartoons are extremely cheaply animated (not that I mind, the voices and plots are hilarious). But Tom and jerry is something else imo

the further back in time you go the better the animation is, also because those were big budget cartoons meant for theatrical release
it was from the era before hanna barberraslop. they economized shit in the 50s and 60s similar to how anime was good in the 80s and 90s then heavily economized using digital art by the 21st century until now super looks like absolute DOGSHIT compared to dragon ball and even late era dragon ball Z, even GT.
Basically they just try to figure out what the absolute minimum quality people are willing to accept is and go with that. Shit like the Flintstones, Jetsons, the 50 billion one season hanna barberaslop cartoons had tiny production costs and most kids didn't care that the animation was shit compared to tom & jerry and early looney tunes.

I went back and watched some Tex Avery stuff recently. The amount I laughed now compared to when I was a kid was much higher. I think I'm just dumber but others have pointed out that they were made by adults in the first place. You know which cartoon I appreciate even more these days? The ones where they would put real actors from that era or the eras the artists grew up in. That and that daffy frick cartoon where he fights a bunch of cartoon mobsters. Neon Noodle ect.

One thing I really like about Tom and Jerry is that while Jerry always wins out in the end, Tom usually gets a fair amount of hits in as well, using his size to his advantage. The episode where Jerry is fricking with Tom while he’s conducting an orchestra is a great example. I love Bugs Bunny and shit like that too but those are always completely one sided from beginning to end.
