The prevalence of slavery in SU is largely unknown. The short where Pearl discusses human history and slavery is noncanon, and SU canon has large deviances from our own history (e.g. WW2 never happening).

im kinda trying to make an AU where the crystal gems were corrupted by the diamond blast, and so a human govuhmint corporation struggles to keep the world safe in their absence. unfortunately, said corp is not as good as the gems at being the local fun police, so there would be some underground trading of reverse-engineered alien tech, corrupted "attack dogs", and additional threats that spawn from the earth and make a name for themselves.
main problem rn is worldbuilding, because while i got a few characters figured out, i basically need to make a new whole ass cast of stinky humans because the crystal gems are effectively defunct.
while i am trying to create some interesting parallels with what steven universe established and my AU attempt, my main fear is accidentally just writing steven universe again. of course, i imagine this story would end the same way (facing the diamonds) and go through similar struggles (the cluster), i want to do it in a way that makes it more interesting than "this but y" that most AUs do.
also, amethyst would still be alive and uncorrupted, so it'd be kinda odd to make a direct analog to her lol
Maybe look to stargate, Halo, No More Heroes, or maybe some military movies for inspiration. The A team is also good
Overall what you want is a survivalist team I think. Less about SU redemption and more like zombie survivors looking for a cure

She’s been the one training Steven after his Kaiju form. Her ability to stay cool has been pretty tested against him, it’s also what helped build his affections for her. He liked that she wasn’t afraid of him when he was like that and without knowing him. She has him tamed like no one else and same goes for all her other patients. As for Stella and Fire Guy (Should he get a name?) I see them mainly pissing one another off at first before he learns to recognize it’s the human part of Stella that’s where she gets her real strength. After that it’s just friendly insulting

Indeed. Honestly I wouldn’t be surprised if Valentina just totally lacked empathy in some ways, cause her husband definitely does. I could also see Steven liking the aura of stability and control that Valentina gives off, as it’s a far cry from his own recent instability. In a way, Valentina is also like a less forceful version of the diamonds, though the control is still there, just more insidious.

As for Valentina, I think she could feel empathy in extreme situations but outside of those, simply can’t. I see her as an excellent actress. She can look at Steven with all the concern and love in the world but it won’t actually be real to her, just him seeing her that way. She sort of replaces Connie for him that way, he sees her as a foundation for him. As long as she’s around he’ll be fine. And she is ready to take full advantage of that.

I do like the idea of her using her time with Steven to actively study and record information about Gem technology to her husband for him to replicate. Such as when he took her on the Warp Pad for the first time or when she learned of the Injectors. And yeah Ash would probably look up any series with fire powers. He’s gotten pretty good, but he still can’t pull off more complex tricks yet.

Valid with human patients sure. Not so much with superhumans ones. Most of them tend to try not to make themselves noticeable so the few she can’t control are unlikely to publicly deride her. At best they may issue off warnings but she can claim that they were difficult and most don’t have the best histories anyway.
Yeah, Valentina is Still a great therapist but ultimately she’s a completely different person when family or powerful people are involved.

Personally I think the social dynamics are the most interesting part. From GOLD’s absolute narcissism, Alice’s depression, Carol’s general alpha b***hness, Chrome’s desire for independence stemming from the trauma of a hivemind, Al Mine’s greed, Pyrite’s (Stella’s little sister) inferiority complex, P-3’s journey to become more human, etc. it’s all about the characters

Most of them are mentally damaged or come from broken homes and some even came from no homes. Nothing for them until she showed them kindness. Grooming Steven to lead them had been a long process, especially with the fights she triggers. She’s opting for them to fear him and look at her as their savior from him. I've been avoiding Stella threads for what feels like years now, thinking it a spite-driven "Everything SU did was awful, so let's just do the opposite!" AU. But I gotta say this Valentina chick is interesting. I've always been a fan of emotional manipulator antagonists. Plus I love this guy's artwork.
Stella was never spite driven. It may have started like that but then it quickly evolved to become less of a “let’s do the opposite” and more of a “how would Steven react if he met his opposite” au.
And despite being conceived in part as a good guy faction, the metals are really just as corrupt as the gems and are more of a semi evil empire with a Nobel emperor who can’t fully control his three subordinates.

I always thought yellow Steven’s character would work better as a rival to Steven. As either the son of a quartz who can never catch up or a human with electrokinetic abilities
Yeah, I’ve always thought that Steven could use a rival character that he didn’t like and who didn’t like him, but with there being a mutual sense of progression and respect between the two. Someone to compete with who preferably had a much flashier and more destructive power to contrast his healing.
A while back I hoped that the Stella Starlight threads could provide that. But Stella’s character, despite being really fun, wasn’t really pure rival material. Maybe one day we can have a trinity thread with Steven, her, and a yellow Stevenish rival
Personally I think he’d work best with a fire or lightning based ability

Though there was also a suggestion of different superhuman types in the last Stella threads with there being ESP users, PK users, mutants (the semi boring kind), people who are slightly stronger and heal faster, and firestarters who are humans with flame abilities like in fire force.
So maybe he could either be touched by shadows or a firestarter with electric powers and possibly the ability to launch himself via combustion

Valid with human patients sure. Not so much with superhumans ones. Most of them tend to try not to make themselves noticeable so the few she can’t control are unlikely to publicly deride her. At best they may issue off warnings but she can claim that they were difficult and most don’t have the best histories anyway.

I’d argue Doctor Turner is more infuriating because she’s more of a constant thorn in Stella, the metals, and the gene’s side.
GOLD and Red Mercury are the final bosses, but Valentina is a constant source of oppression, dominance, and problems. A human villain worse than the Prophet or Al Mine without actually being a villain.

Could have it be other superhumans. I was thinking of Valentina forcing Steven to become Chadven through her other patients. She sets them off and he rushes in to battle them for her. Every one he fights hat leads to him being more and more brutal with how he handles it as he becomes more protective of Doctor Turner
Probably also makes slight implications to have her supers fight each other for her amusement. Of course she regulates the training to keep at least one Steven level so that he’s always wanting more.

You’ve already struck oil, you don’t need to sell me on this any more. But what’s her backstory
Idk. Not sure if she should be rich or not, but I could see her being somewhat similar to Matilda in being smarter than others her age when younger and developing PK abilities at a similar time. She then diverges because she starts to see herself as superior based on her ability to move things with her mind and maybe she uses this power for something useful. Either way I could see her as among the most stable supers, but also someone very used to getting her way and not used to losing.
I like her a child prodigy yeah. If she is rich, I would think it came from inheritance if nothing else. I think she would be used to nothing but humans all her life, to contrast with the others of the group. To see her struggle with the concept not only is she not unique in her power set she is far from the strongest superhuman

Honestly sounds pretty good. As for Ash, idk why but the WD gal reminds me of Veruca Salt slightly so maybe she had an experience with a fire or incinerator in the past that left fire itself as a trauma button for her, just an idea.

Yeah, the twintails idea was a bit inspired by pic related from Hilda. Honestly I’m currently seeing her as having a mostly preppy white look with a tiny goth tint later on.
Personally I think if we wanna expy alt Stevens those specifically shouldn’t be in Val’s group unless they’re copies of bad end Stevens (yes, maybe including the one who didn’t survive)
Remember, this is Still an SU AU so all these characters are reflecting Steven himself. The metals and Stella reflect his alien side a bit. Valentina mirrors Priyanka showing how a bad Doctor could have messed him up with Carol showing an alternate path Connie could have taken. Prophet reflects his and Stella’s hybrid nature, Ash a different mother, GOLD his fears about Pink Diamond, Titanium White what he hopes WD will one day become, and Al Mine is just there because he’s awesome, etc.

Yeah honestly, one thing I’ve found really fun is how we end up subconsciously or intentionally tying everything and everyone together in the end personally or thematically.
Like Connie and Carol are contra and in turn they get alien gifts that are a sword and armor respectively. Or the complete difference between Steven’s boardwalk restaurants (seriously, $5 a slice?) and Stella’s relationship with the Lucky Kitty. Or how Valentina shows a natural progression of potential narcissism with GOLD and Red Mercury being the end of that road. With Ash being Steven alone and WD gal being a version who indulged in his new authority.
And I like how the groups show this two. Even the military reflects it with their desperate drive to get more power leading to cyborgs and their desperation making Dr. Long construct P-3. Point is I think that these different groups really are not so different after all, but are blind to that possibility.

I especially loved the horror of portals being made whenever a psychic made contact, meaning any superpowered schmuck could end up with their family brutality mauled and their community in danger just because they reached out to far when training.

I knew SU was gonna be bad after the cluster episode. When Steven talked to it. Instead of outright destroying it. There were no stakes. Everyone broke down crying instead of fighting it out. There were no true villains. Just ‘misunderstood’. SU portrays the average emotional intelligence of Hollywood writer perfectly.
Even naruto had to beat the shit out of people before he could get talk-no-jutsu to work. You get them into a physically weak position and show them mercy by not finishing the job, this makes them receptive to listening to you.
God, just rewatching clips of the original SU and I notice a lot of that anxiety and lack of stability that ends of fricking up teen Steven. As a kid he just was lucky to have something to distract his thoughts or someone to be there.

I actually remember an idea for the "episode" where these two spend a nice afternoon at the mall/art expo together while their kids and alien caretakers are off to fight some otherworldly threat off-screen.
Like a townie ep, but instead of goofs and gaffs it's quiet introspection and two very hurt human beings finding a decent amount of understanding for one another due to the situation they've been put in.

In hindsight she’s a better way of life than the Gems. Sure Steven may be stuck with a manipulative emotionless woman, but he’s also in better shape than ever and able to do what he loves, which is beat the shit out of superhumans
I don't care if it doesn't make much sense, but in a better series, the show would have ended with Pink Diamond returning and Steven and the Gems killing her.
In the battle with White, when Steven's diamond was extracted it first morphed into Pink Diamond's form.
In the end is Pink just hiding within Steven, I mean the whole encounter is supposed to imply Pink is dead and the Gem is fully Steven but that tease of Pink's sillouette challenges that.
It was her silhouette evolving into Steevn, meant to show that’s what was there before and is him now like when Pearl reformed. Same object, different mind/soul
Why did this show turn to dumpster? I wasn't here for when it happened but, there were literally so many missed oppurtunities, and leaning into the shonen influences would have made it much better. Anime writers are conservative while SU writers were liberal I think this why.

Personally I feel like the setting works best with what was discussed in this thread with the metals, gems, and superhumans (so that Steven and Stella aren’t alone and cause they’re fun) with maybe one extra dimensional thing.
Other aliens do exist under Metal protection, and maybe the greys do exist in some remote corner doing research, but ultimately they aren’t gonna effect the plot unless someone plot related makes it an issue. Like with GOLD sending the tree alien to assassinate Stella with his planet hostage, or the random healing slime merchants who allow Stella to recover after brutal space battles like a MM themed Nurse Joy.
Also I loved the idea of GOLD wiping out species to make his items made from or by them more valuable
There was an idea a while back that GOLD would be sending out assassins to take out Stella as her first metal battles though it was never fully developed.
One assassin was a great warrior from a mostly peaceful ent species who had his planet threatened by GOLD probably via an orbiting armada.
If he brings Stella back to GOLD, his species to free. If he fails, both he and his race will die.

The prevalence of slavery in SU is largely unknown. The short where Pearl discusses human history and slavery is noncanon, and SU canon has large deviances from our own history (e.g. WW2 never happening).

im kinda trying to make an AU where the crystal gems were corrupted by the diamond blast, and so a human govuhmint corporation struggles to keep the world safe in their absence. unfortunately, said corp is not as good as the gems at being the local fun police, so there would be some underground trading of reverse-engineered alien tech, corrupted "attack dogs", and additional threats that spawn from the earth and make a name for themselves.
main problem rn is worldbuilding, because while i got a few characters figured out, i basically need to make a new whole ass cast of stinky humans because the crystal gems are effectively defunct.
Maybe make them analog to the gems? Or look to some other media for cast inspiration

She’s been the one training Steven after his Kaiju form. Her ability to stay cool has been pretty tested against him, it’s also what helped build his affections for her. He liked that she wasn’t afraid of him when he was like that and without knowing him. She has him tamed like no one else and same goes for all her other patients. As for Stella and Fire Guy (Should he get a name?) I see them mainly pissing one another off at first before he learns to recognize it’s the human part of Stella that’s where she gets her real strength. After that it’s just friendly insulting
Indeed. Honestly I wouldn’t be surprised if Valentina just totally lacked empathy in some ways, cause her husband definitely does. I could also see Steven liking the aura of stability and control that Valentina gives off, as it’s a far cry from his own recent instability. In a way, Valentina is also like a less forceful version of the diamonds, though the control is still there, just more insidious.
Also Fire guy should definitely get a name, probably a reference or pun related to flames
The diamonds showed fear to future Steven like when he got all homicidal with White. Having a sociopath who won't even flinch when Steven breaks a wall in anger would catch him off guard.

As for Valentina, I think she could feel empathy in extreme situations but outside of those, simply can’t. I see her as an excellent actress. She can look at Steven with all the concern and love in the world but it won’t actually be real to her, just him seeing her that way. She sort of replaces Connie for him that way, he sees her as a foundation for him. As long as she’s around he’ll be fine. And she is ready to take full advantage of that.
Exactly. The best part is her being able to switch at a drop of a hat. She can turn from seductress to concerned mother figure to professional in just a few seconds.
Maybe Ash St. (something) as a lady name. Maybe have his name be Ashley shortened to Ash as an evil dead reference given the shadows nature. And I like Valentina being an amazing actress given how easily she could use it to weasel out of consequences.

I think most times Steven gets close to learning what she’s really like end with her perfectly able to replicate a heartbroken woman sobbing into her hands over how he has hurt her with his accusationsuntil he hugs and apologizes over and over again unable to see her completely blank face devoid of any tears. I would also give her an actual immunity to one of Steven’s powers. Namely dream walking. Even when he dreams about her and enters her dream, he’s unable to do anything she doesn’t authorize. I picture her that genuinely mentally strong over him.

And yeah I think that would be a requirement if she has to control Espers of her superhuman group she’s building. If she’s grooming Steven for the position, I think she would have him battle more in order for him to develop the skills for the group.
Hell yeah. He probably also has a power similar to Roy Mustang being able to send out a “lightning bullet” to trigger an explosion. As for Valentina, I wouldn’t be surprised if her husband is responsible for her telepathic immunity given what he does.

Always love a reference to FMA, I see him as very innovative compared to Stella and Steven. He fully scopes out media to try to see if he can imitate any actual pyrokinesis techniques in real life with of course varying results
Personally I prefer it to be all natural for Valentina. She’s just that good. I think her doctor husband would be all in on everything she’s doing even the deal with Steven. If he has government contacts, I see him providing the physical failsafe to her team of superhumans

Could be fun, though I’m not sure how Stella could do that. Carol’s probably just happy she has someone, an equal, to bond with
She probably would have a few gadgets in her israeliteelry just in case things get out of hand or she’s placed in a situation she cannot immediately control. I do like the idea of her using her time with Steven to actively study and record information about Gem technology to her husband for him to replicate. Such as when he took her on the Warp Pad for the first time or when she learned of the Injectors. And yeah Ash would probably look up any series with fire powers. He’s gotten pretty good, but he still can’t pull off more complex tricks yet.
The Turners are fun because they’re somewhat realistic Human opportunists in the world of Steven Universe. Able to use their intelligence and knowledge of that world to their advantage.
Yeah, Valentina is Still a great therapist but ultimately she’s a completely different person when family or powerful people are involved.
Basically it started out as a what if the gems had metal rivals with the main character being a golden cyborg tomboy but branched out from there.
Personally I think the social dynamics are the most interesting part. From GOLD’s absolute narcissism, Alice’s depression, Carol’s general alpha b***hness, Chrome’s desire for independence stemming from the trauma of a hivemind, Al Mine’s greed, Pyrite’s (Stella’s little sister) inferiority complex, P-3’s journey to become more human, etc. it’s all about the characters
Pic related is the Blade Wolf esque android P-3 which probably means protector 3. Built to combat alien threats
Really, Valentina is just doing what any other woman with ambition would do in her position. Securing a male with unique resources for herself and her purposes, whether they be just so she can enjoy control to more practical ones like taking advantage of the technology he has a hold off for her husband to duplicate for his work.
And that’s what makes Valentina so dangerous and chilling as an antagonist. She’s an ordinary, intelligent, logical human being who showed up and inserted herself into Steven’s life when he was vulnerable. The type of person who could actually exist.

Never complete mindlessness, after all she does need them to be able to fight effectively. Her control is more a mixture of cult like loyalty mixed with loyalty to a mother and loyalty to a lover. He trusts i her and what she asks him to do.
She also uses a bit of hypnotherapy but mostly for memory stuff, never enough to completely mindfrick people
Doctor Turner doesn’t really want mindless slaves. What she wants is to have control over super people with actual personalities. It appeals to her more.
And Steven fills the role of one of the strongest and one that’s more satisfying to control. How would she gaslight Steven with her memory trick though?
Does she even need to? Steven already realizes all the close calls with death as a kid weren't fun kid-safe adventures, he nearly died and suffered pain/injury constantly.
Always fun to have insurance. Naybe add a memory of him hurting her. She can appear as a saint willing to help a sinner and he would have have another layer of guilt on his shoulders as well the feeling of debt
All it really takes is convincing Steven his lowest points were much lower than they were and maybe inserting a trauma or two
Doctor Turner (male) doesn’t care. He’s like weirdly a Chad but also a cuck but not really in that he doesn’t care who his wife is with because he can always do better. He just wants her send him samples or give him some when he arrives for one of his two weeks at home and to give Carol one of her two yearly head pats to maintain “fatherly love”
Reminds me of Dale. He would probably laugh at Steven for wanting to marry Valentina. Just a silly boy “in love”with a woman he knows nothing about to fill that void inside while the male doctor is taking his kind’a technology and turning it into an American innovation. He’ll be sure to send a wedding gift.
Funny thing is he doesn’t even have a name yet. All we know is that he exists on a transcendent yet based state of apathy for most non science things. Sorta like Dr. Membrane

I think being around Valentina’s program for superhumans has more or less loosened up those violent feelings again. Remember that Steven does love a fight as seen in Fragments. He was just in an home that wouldn’t accept it

I think that really depends on how much Val can manipulate her.
If it’s successful, then they probably get along fine with some slight uneasiness, if Priyanka can figure it out, then it’s probably nothing but malice between the two.
Ultimately Valentina is good but that’s usually with superhumans who are already going to be unstable with what their lives have been, varying between people who can’t turn off their psychic visions, or people who have accidentally burned down their own homes. I think her best resort is just isolating Steven away from her

Oh she’s essentially hollow inside. It’s how most see her as Mother Theresa. Even empaths like Steven can’t get any maliciousness from her, it’s why they’re prone to do what she wants. She’s an just a loving mother figure who wants what’s best for all her patients while ignoring her actual daughter
She’s like some of White and Pink Diamond’s worst traits coalesced together. A false mother in the outline of Rose with Steven being blind to the pain he’s enabling.
Even the supers are similar to the humans Rose recruited for her cause.
Most of them are mentally damaged or come from broken homes and some even came from no homes. Nothing for them until she showed them kindness. Grooming Steven to lead them had been a long process, especially with the fights she triggers. She’s opting for them to fear him and look at her as their savior from him. And personally I think her color motifs would be a lot of white and red

Yeah, I’ve always thought that Steven could use a rival character that he didn’t like and who didn’t like him, but with there being a mutual sense of progression and respect between the two. Someone to compete with who preferably had a much flashier and more destructive power to contrast his healing.
A while back I hoped that the Stella Starlight threads could provide that. But Stella’s character, despite being really fun, wasn’t really pure rival material. Maybe one day we can have a trinity thread with Steven, her, and a yellow Stevenish rival

Though there was also a suggestion of different superhuman types in the last Stella threads with there being ESP users, PK users, mutants (the semi boring kind), people who are slightly stronger and heal faster, and firestarters who are humans with flame abilities like in fire force.
So maybe he could either be touched by shadows or a firestarter with electric powers and possibly the ability to launch himself via combustion

Valid with human patients sure. Not so much with superhumans ones. Most of them tend to try not to make themselves noticeable so the few she can’t control are unlikely to publicly deride her. At best they may issue off warnings but she can claim that they were difficult and most don’t have the best histories anyway.

Every one he fights hat leads to him being more and more brutal with how he handles it as he becomes more protective of Doctor Turner

I like to imagine that Stella’s social ineptitude still makes her unaware while Carol’s ineptitude means movie music is playing in her head.
Because like it or not, Stella, upon meeting Carol, proved herself as powerful, uncontrollable, and rebellious, provided her with the best meal she had in weeks, and gave her more affection from being a basic human being than her parents give in a year. She’s hooked and not letting go.
It’s a constant romantic filter with Carol. She’s just lucky Stella doesn’t have a lot of female friends, otherwise she would learn pretty fast most girls don’t kiss each other after getting into fistfights
True, but unlike Steven’s future blunders she still understands limits.
She’s been starved for proper affection for so long and Stella’s the first person to actually be a true friend who doesn’t fear her or immediately bow down to her (not that she would mind Stella bowing down) there’s no point in risking the friendship. No risking losing Stella.
I think she stops just sort of arousing suspicion from even Stella. Use of the term girlfriend sparingly, kisses just now and then. Lot of handholding though. Sometimes even when they’re still. Idk. Not sure if she should be rich or not, but I could see her being somewhat similar to Matilda in being smarter than others her age when younger and developing PK abilities at a similar time. She then diverges because she starts to see herself as superior based on her ability to move things with her mind and maybe she uses this power for something useful. Either way I could see her as among the most stable supers, but also someone very used to getting her way and not used to losing.
I like her a child prodigy yeah. If she is rich, I would think it came from inheritance if nothing else. I think she would be used to nothing but humans all her life, to contrast with the others of the group. To see her struggle with the concept not only is she not unique in her power set she is far from the strongest superhuman

I have this idea of her wearing all white most of the time, and so anytime she gets bloodied by someone it leaves her clothings rust colored which sets her off into trying to kill them like a spoiled brat
Honestly sounds pretty good. As for Ash, idk why but the WD gal reminds me of Veruca Salt slightly so maybe she had an experience with a fire or incinerator in the past that left fire itself as a trauma button for her, just an idea.
I like the idea of her hating getting her clothing dirty. Maybe she also wears her hair in a bun or twintails and hates getting it messed up.
She is a bit of a perfectionist. She sees herself above everyone so she wants it all according to her way. Learning there are people who can just set her ablaze or throttle her just leaves her unkempt whenever she’s around other superhumans. I think even Valentina wouldn’t let her in her group. Twin tails sounds nice
Yeah, the twintails idea was a bit inspired by pic related from Hilda. Honestly I’m currently seeing her as having a mostly preppy white look with a tiny goth tint later on.
Personally I think if we wanna expy alt Stevens those specifically shouldn’t be in Val’s group unless they’re copies of bad end Stevens (yes, maybe including the one who didn’t survive)
Remember, this is Still an SU AU so all these characters are reflecting Steven himself. The metals and Stella reflect his alien side a bit. Valentina mirrors Priyanka showing how a bad Doctor could have messed him up with Carol showing an alternate path Connie could have taken. Prophet reflects his and Stella’s hybrid nature, Ash a different mother, GOLD his fears about Pink Diamond, Titanium White what he hopes WD will one day become, and Al Mine is just there because he’s awesome, etc.

Yeah honestly, one thing I’ve found really fun is how we end up subconsciously or intentionally tying everything and everyone together in the end personally or thematically.
Like Connie and Carol are contra and in turn they get alien gifts that are a sword and armor respectively. Or the complete difference between Steven’s boardwalk restaurants (seriously, $5 a slice?) and Stella’s relationship with the Lucky Kitty. Or how Valentina shows a natural progression of potential narcissism with GOLD and Red Mercury being the end of that road. With Ash being Steven alone and WD gal being a version who indulged in his new authority.
And I like how the groups show this two. Even the military reflects it with their desperate drive to get more power leading to cyborgs and their desperation making Dr. Long construct P-3. Point is I think that these different groups really are not so different after all, but are blind to that possibility.
It’s always fun to have little bits of SU slip into Metal Men and I always love the idea of warring factions booking down to the same fore mir or less. Personally I’m rooting for Valentina’s superhumans

The Upside Down is fun
Yeah. One part I always loved was the absolute horror of an unknown realm of monsters capable of breaching into our world at any time and spreading it’s life forms inside.
I especially loved the horror of portals being made whenever a psychic made contact, meaning any superpowered schmuck could end up with their family brutality mauled and their community in danger just because they reached out to far when training.
White Steven should be born into a billionaire family, one where White Diamond posed as the heiress of a Diamond Mining company
Or Greg got his royalties that made him a millionarie on time.
He also could have simply not stopped making music.

I knew SU was gonna be bad after the cluster episode. When Steven talked to it. Instead of outright destroying it. There were no stakes. Everyone broke down crying instead of fighting it out. There were no true villains. Just ‘misunderstood’. SU portrays the average emotional intelligence of Hollywood writer perfectly.

God, just rewatching clips of the original SU and I notice a lot of that anxiety and lack of stability that ends of fricking up teen Steven. As a kid he just was lucky to have something to distract his thoughts or someone to be there.

I actually remember an idea for the "episode" where these two spend a nice afternoon at the mall/art expo together while their kids and alien caretakers are off to fight some otherworldly threat off-screen.
Like a townie ep, but instead of goofs and gaffs it's quiet introspection and two very hurt human beings finding a decent amount of understanding for one another due to the situation they've been put in.

I don't care if it doesn't make much sense, but in a better series, the show would have ended with Pink Diamond returning and Steven and the Gems killing her.
It should've ended with Steven and Greg deciding to leave Earth and travel the universe.
In the battle with White, when Steven's diamond was extracted it first morphed into Pink Diamond's form.
In the end is Pink just hiding within Steven, I mean the whole encounter is supposed to imply Pink is dead and the Gem is fully Steven but that tease of Pink's sillouette challenges that.

Why did this show turn to dumpster? I wasn't here for when it happened but, there were literally so many missed oppurtunities, and leaning into the shonen influences would have made it much better. Anime writers are conservative while SU writers were liberal I think this why.

There might not be a lore bible, but there's no sense in overbloating the setting either.
Personally I feel like the setting works best with what was discussed in this thread with the metals, gems, and superhumans (so that Steven and Stella aren’t alone and cause they’re fun) with maybe one extra dimensional thing.
Other aliens do exist under Metal protection, and maybe the greys do exist in some remote corner doing research, but ultimately they aren’t gonna effect the plot unless someone plot related makes it an issue. Like with GOLD sending the tree alien to assassinate Stella with his planet hostage, or the random healing slime merchants who allow Stella to recover after brutal space battles like a MM themed Nurse Joy.
Also I loved the idea of GOLD wiping out species to make his items made from or by them more valuable

There was an idea a while back that GOLD would be sending out assassins to take out Stella as her first metal battles though it was never fully developed.
One assassin was a great warrior from a mostly peaceful ent species who had his planet threatened by GOLD probably via an orbiting armada.
If he brings Stella back to GOLD, his species to free. If he fails, both he and his race will die.
I think after this thread dies, I’ll make a “what if the SU universe had other super humans” thread. Just to invite more people into that conversation like I did when making the original Steven Multiverse thread
