Still debating whether to see this or not

Reposting for further input, preferably not from shills.

Does this film, unlike the first one, have some sort of conclusion or fulfillment at the end? You know a fully closed narrative, some conflict resolution, the idea that if no further sequels arrived it would be a satisfying ending? I obviously know there’s a part three but part one felt like a waste of time given the lack of any sort of finality. It really doesn’t feel worthwhile to buy a ticket and watch a 3 hour film just to be blue balled at the end.

I could debate whether or not the separate parts of a planned trilogy can even have any merit as individual films but I’ll spare everyone and just ask, is it as unfulfilling as part one? If so I’m skipping a theater viewing and waiting for this to hit MAX.

For reference, I hate the ending of Empire Strikes Back. The movie is pretty good but if I’d seen that in a theater I’d have been pretty annoyed that it’s basically “to be continued” at the end. Where as Star Wars (“Episode 4: A New Hope”, if you’re a child) , since it wasn’t planned as a part 1, has a satisfying ending in that the conflict is resolved and the character arcs are, while not remarkable, completed.

It has 99% of the things from the ending of the Dune book, part 1 felt unsatisfying because it stopped in the middle of the book without resolving. Pacing was a little rushed at the end to get everything in but it wasn't as severe as Lynch's Dune. Dune Messiah "finishes" the story but a movie of that is at least 5 years away.

it was still pretty bad though. Still felt like scenes were missing. It's hard to feel any attachment to anything when it skips ahead like that.

lolno. They vandalized the book and made it woke in really insidious ways. They de-fanged some of the more "problematic" and dangerous ideas.

If you turn your brain off and ignore the look Jessica gives Paul when he shuts down the reverend mother sure you could come away with that conclusion. You could also just have media literacy and understand the films you watch instead of crying about women. Stick to star wars?

If you want finality, dune ain't for you considering you might have to wait for atleast a decade or more for Deni to complete the series. Dune 2 is only worth watching on IMAX or Dolby because it's more of a visual and audio spectacle than a traditional movie with actual dialogue. So if you can't, don't watch it.

I’ll just wait until it’s streaming, as I said in OP. And I’ll watch it on a nice big television because I’m not a pajeet or off-white zoomer.

The point I made was that action is not a reason to go see a film in theaters. Only zoomers, hispanics and autistics think this. Watch more actual films in theaters, Paco.

Why not make it a mini series or film it like LOTR? Seems absolutely moronic to take three years off in between a planned series. Nine years for a three part series is insane. 15 years for a 5 parter if they go through with it? And each is 3 hours long with PS2 graphics? Seems absurd to approach it this way just so zendaya can make lgbt propaganda for HBO and and Tim can make shitty Wonka remakes.

you are grossly simplifying. Franchises need time and planing otherwise they end up being slop.

FOTR and Two Towers are both individually better than Dunc 1&2 you’re a brain rotted zoomer to think otherwise.

LOTR is a perfect example how from the great first film it turns into protocapeshit tier franchise slop in the sequels.

With DUNC 2 it's more of a star wars A New Hope > ESB situation.

The main plot that was set up in the first movie is concluded. However, it has an ending similar to AOTC with there obviously being new events happening that we don't get to see.

A ponderous, thoughtful, dialogue driven commentary on Christian mythology, human theology, the pitfalls of perceived infallibility amongst leaders, caste systems, environmentalism, nepotism, hero worship, divine right of kings, and the extent to which man can destroy himself in the pursuit of immortality vs Vin Diesel makes bad guys go boom. But hey, they all have blue eyes I guess

It’s better than part 1. That’s for sure. I think Ville was too obsessed with making is visual, dropping the ball in the writing and dialogue instead.

I think the problem is that the movie focuses too much on chani and her fan fiction anger at Paul. It rushes through Alia and Jessica, the baron is barely in the movie at all. And the finale feels 5 minutes short.

I think it has a far worse and less satisfying ending than Part I, which ends with Paul's tragically premature coming of age and simultaneously chilling and thrilling partial fulfillment of his Gom Jabbar visions. The second one ends in a mess brought on by misguided character rewriting and separating the viewer from Paul's moral perspective. My review: In general it's a far worse film and deeply disappointing compared to the restorative, transcendent Part I. It does away with all character complexity, subtlety, poetry, and undercurrent of foreboding in favor of half-hearted humor and irrelevant action bluster. If you thought Part I was "slow" and light on action, maybe you'll like this one. If you were attuned to the nuances of Paul's relationship with his mother, with his father, and their relationship, and appreciated action that actually had implications for the characters involved, you won't.

Thanks anons. I don’t really want to sour anyone on it with my negativity before they see it, but it’s sad to see people saying part II is so much better than part I when part II is basically like any other flick and part I is actually well done.

My favorite part was when Chani and her girlfriend make fun in anticipation of Paul losing his mother to the Water of Life, when Chani had JUST lost her own mother (femKynes) at the end of Pt 1.

Paul and Chani's lovebond was spurred in the book by mutual mourning after the simultaneous loss of their fathers. The hack writers completely missed that plot device and made Chani to be a souless harpy.
