I thought that was one aspect that was handled perfectly, how lean and focused it was, alongside no fanservice it was one of the major things that contributed to its appeal, it was a shonen series that was palatable to non-shonen audiences.
In fact with the moronic rushed ending the first half of S3 that focuses on Historia ends up being filler in retrospect, it serves no greater story purpose.
The last point is really the most important. It's amazing how consistently any jap show just devolves into generic shonen power level super hero shit with different costs of paint. They just can't help playing to a now omnipresent international audience of autists.

if you remove the lesbians from 2 then yes seasons 1-3 are very good
