I can kinda see it from a story telling point of view. Hazbin keeps focus on sinners, overlords and heaven - the more human part and Hellva explores the rest of Hell. Really having one show on Youtube and the other on TV probably restricted what they can crossover. It should have been two sperate things.

I feel like it makes some sense in the idea that sinners have more variability. So humans can be as weak as can be, but also have the potential to claw over each other fighting for dominance and becoming possible overlords over the centuries. Whereas the situation for imps just never really changes.
The problem with that comes that it makes Hell feel less like...well..hell. the idea of demons not being inheritable evil is a fair concept, but if everyone in hell just can live comfortably then this could have been any other setting
Sure, but going off the Hazbin pilot alone I thought the idea is less that everyone can find a way to live comfortably and more that it's a regular war-zone where evil overlords have staked their control over their own corners of Hell while lesser demons are fighting over everything in-between. The Ars Gotia (outide of Stolas) seem to treat Imps pretty poorly. Even then having a ruling class which you can't vote for is pretty bad. Even in Feudal England they had a way of outing local Lords if the peasants didn't like them.
I actually kinda hope the remaining five sins follow this precedent just to stay consistent. Otherwise it’ll seem like the show has decided there are “good sins” and “bad sins,” with Gluttony and Lust being good ones.
So for example, I think it’ll be really off putting if, say, Wrath turns out to be an evil unrepentant wife beater. Instead of like a dude who will beat the everliving shit out of another dude for threatening his wife, or something. Keeping in line with the Queen of Gluttony is just a fun party girl who doesn’t like it when people drink too much to escape their problems, or when the Prince of Lust is some cool sex positive guy who chastises the use of date rape drugs.
To me, I think it kinda misses the point of the seven deadly sins if you don’t understand that every one of them originates from a concept that’s actually necessary for functioning human society, but taken to a harmful extreme. But if you’re gonna miss the point in the first place you’d might as well go all the way and be sure to miss it across the board instead of cherry picking your personal favorite vices from the lot.

There’s no reason for him to listen to Blitzo and Fizz in this episode if he himself isn’t involved in this kind of a relationship.
The funny thing about Striker hating the hierarchy of hell is that it could actually give the characters more depth.
Maybe Striker was part of a community that was actually helpful and caring to fellow hellborn kind, but some disaster or raiders destroyed everything leaving Striker the only survivor.
Then it’s revealed that the area was under Stolas’ jurisdiction and not only did he not do anything to prevent its destruction but willfully allowed it to happen, leaving Striker bitter and hateful of a royalty he now views as decadent.
For everyone struggling to understand this constant trend of writing problems or hypocrisy. Remember- It's always one of two reasons.
1) It's originally written by someone with no actual beliefs and nothing they stand for. So there is no consistent structure because the creators have none in their own lives.
2) "too many cooks" effect, there can be no coherent or consistent vision or message or direction because it's being passed through too many hands and too many interpretations until it becomes a characterless sludge due to homogenization. Like when any studio grows too big or they don't limit who can work on what based on merits and strengths.
I genuinely think the problem is that the writing for HB is reactionary, and not in the political sense. It’s like Viv saw the criticism of the show being mean-spirited and instead of trudging on, she decided to overcorrect and make the characters more “wholesome”.

It is stupid, but if Viv actually stuck to a 'might makes right' standpoint it makes sense within the rules laid out, because Sinners and above can only be killed by holy weapons while Imps and regular Hellborn can be killed the old fashioned way.
There's some potential for decent worldbuilding here and questions of if Hell was always like this or was it once the stereotypical fire and brimstone stuff, but since Viv has no interest in real worldbuilding it remains unexplored.

Several episodes later focus on an dating an imp. I'm mixed on the ending, about the twink being happy to just be a frick toy that doesn't leave the building.
Fizz made some somewhat reluctant looking facial expressions during that “never leave the house again” conversation that makes me think their arc might not be over yet. Next step is probably something along the lines of Fizz deciding he wants to be free and independent, and him and Ozzie having to come out of the closet about their relationship to make that happen, or something.

I think the biggest problem with the show is the long development time clearly has them giving different characterization. Like the married couple is supposed to be boringly vanilla in one episode but then it turns out he's a bibawd that likes to get pegged and they have public sex without issue. Those don't really correlate.
Viv and the rest of the writing team seem to have invented a lot of character traits that don’t actually exist in the show. Unhappy Campers is supposed to be showing how much of a “theater kid” Moxxie is since he dumps all previous characterization of being a stalwart professional to play up the undercover role. However, we’ve been given zero fricking indication in any previous episode that he was ever interested in fricking theater since every other time he’s shown any interest in performing is just strumming love songs for Millie.

I got more of a impression of sexual tension from Loona and M&M remarking at each other with Loona pulling pigtails. Her bullying comes across as more tasteful than Blitzo's constant shit spewing and creepy as frick behavior that is just lacking in so much taste. If he was charming about and not giving me the urge to crush his head in a vise every time he talks and ruins the mood, I probably wouldn't be put off as much by his behavior towards M&M.

Moxxie losing his straight man role (which on a meta level was kinda funny considering the roles Horvitz usually gets) was a big loss too. The first episode of the actual series has him be the one to show hesitation over the whole 'killing people' thing, and even after the target and their family is revealed to total psychopaths, he still takes pity on the family and is obviously traumatized when he inadvertently gets them killed by the police, and he's easily the most normal person of the main cast throughout Season 1.
Now, Moxxie is practically just a slightly toned down version of Angel Dust.

Her racism system I had high hopes for. I was hoping the Imps and to a lesser extend the Helldogs would be outcasts and this would be an interesting problem the main cast would have to deal with on the regular. Right away it's thrown out because Stolas really doesn't seem to care. It's established early Stella cares and it's an embarrassment to her, but that's about it. From then on, we openly see demon lords fricking imps and the lower class in front of others. This last episode just threw the whole idea out the window with Fizz and Asmodeus openly loving one each other. Isn't the honey bee girl a daughter of Beelzebub and a hellhound mother, hence her honey dog design?
If she's just going to say imps and hellhounds are oppressed and not show it, why put it in at all? It's clear it's a rule almost nobody follows.

My impression is the setting being a pagan spirit plane or Forgotten Realms-like theology would have been a more appropriate setting. Well there's Murder Drones, Lackadaisy, probably a couple others. I hear Murder Drones gets good after episode 3, and Lackadaisy should be getting episodes eventually since their backerkit got two million.
Murder Drones is an interesting case of being almost like an opposite to Helluva Boss. The pilot makes you think it's going to be one thing, but the rest of the show quickly begins to reveal that was is truly going on is completely different - in this case it's done completely on purpose while in Helluva the pilot makes you think it's going to be one thing but then gradually turns into what we have now, when pretty much everyone thinks the show would have been much better off sticking with its original premise. Meanwhile with Murder Drones, the original premise is gradually shown to be a complete lie and the true plot goes MUCH deeper into an eldritch horror mystery. It's one of the beat parallels I noticed between the two, but I don't want to go into heavy spoilers for the sake of the anon that asked for show recommendations. In terms of MD "getting better" by Episode 3, I would day the entire show is very good - it's just that Ep 3 is where the true plot really starts to get going leading on from the big tonal shifts of Episode 2. You are right though, episode 3 is VERY good.

Best to ignore tribegays anon, getting annoyed is exactly what they want. Someone who actually enjoys watching a show wouldn't resort to trying to purposefully start shit with people that watch a different show. At the very least, we should be able to share and introduce our shows with eachother without getting pissy over it as if it's some sort of competition, they're just cartoons afterall. I hope you do enjoy the show though, at the very least you're open to giving a try even though it might not be for everyone. It's definitely not a show for casual viewing and does demand a lot of your attention to get, but I hope you like it nonetheless.
