I'm going to bump by pointing out that this piece is clearly Sienkiewicz inspired and Watterson did express his admiration for Billy the Sink in the introduction to The Complete Calvin & Hobbes
If I remember right, Bill used to visit local bookstores to draw sketches and sneak autographs into the copies of his books. He quit when jackasses started camping the stores for his visits just so they could throw them on Ebay.
>refuse to do any autographs >decide you will do a few for a specific store >get upset when it turns out these autographs are worth thousands of dollars
What was he expecting?
Here's the story of how it happened.

It's clearly Steadman inspired because it's an article about Steadman. Sienkiewicz probably has some Steadman influence in him though.
I'll defer to you
that seems like a good read
any links?

Fans to be fans not scalpers. But yeah, he was naive.
Who says he got upset?
People to respect it and not sell out, same as him.
here's something he did back when he was in college:
I can give you this
And here's the Pearls Before Swine strips he drew
I wonder how you convince someone like him to do this

Very cool. Can't even imagine how it must feel to be the guy that got Watterson to draw in his comic
iirc Bloom County also had a Bill come in to draw Hobbes in a post-Covid arc where Opus tries to locate Calvin and return Hobbes to him
Yeah i think i remember that
I assume the bug is supposed to represent Gary Larson?
He's awesome
