Eh, women and men are different in a 1000 small ways. To say otherwise usually ends up in the oppression of women as it often results in men being treated as the default, inheriting or cresting new systems that do not account for the small differences in men and women. It also produces unhappy men as they try to interact with women as they would men, not producing the results that would make either happy.
A simple example would be sexual concordance. Something like 56% of men have perfect sexual concordance while only 16% of women do. On the other hand 32% of women have almost no sexual concordance. If we assume women and men are the same, then it would look like only 16% of women are mentally healthy with another 32% being mentally ill around sex. However, if you assume men and women have small differences, you no longer compare them to the 56% of men who have high sexual concordance and the 32% of women that do not have sexual concordance just becomes one possible way for female sexuality to express itself.
People think statements like men and women are the same as being some kind of liberal shield to protect women but it often ends up hurting women as maleness becomes the default that women are judged against.

The prequels are good.
They’re better than I thought they’d be, especially the second volume.
I found out that they work really well with the added context of the later volumes. Though their development at that point in the story is questionable. My only guess is that they'd serve as a cushioning for the heaviest parts of the story's end. But that's up in the air.
