It's just top tier noir, great storytelling and a few interesting twist. solid ending. There's no super deep meaning if that's what you're looking for. Billy Wilder is the GOAT.
90 is too high but yeah a lot of them are straight up boring. I'm thinking of Rear Window, Charade, Roman Holiday. But some do hold up like Double Indemnity and The Third Man. both which came out in the 40s.
Fricking joke of a film. Stanwyck is a hag and the idea that any man would throw their life away for her breaks the suspension of disbelief. MacMurray was also a horrible miscast.
No, she's committing a murder and playing the role of Norma Desmond. What is she a good actress in? What older movies? I didn't find her acting all that swell. Nor do I understand how she got a gun if Max was supposed to keep an eye on that. Erich von Stroheim also wasn't married to Swanson
It's a top-tier noir, you either love it or hate it I guess, but it's not the type of movie to look for a "deeper meaning". It's most likely gonna be about corruption of any kind, Sunset Blvd is about the corruption of wealth in hollywood or the creative industry in general
Billy Wilder is in the upper echelon of classic Hollywood filmmakers, up there with John Ford, Howard Hawks, Frank Capra, Raoul Walsh and Ernst Lubitsch. Sunset Blvd is his second best film, topped only by The Apartment

His Kind of Woman 1951

Very straight forward kino warning about the reality of Hollywood.
Was it about childhood trafficking?
Yes, and I'm not gonna tell you.
Masterpiece of Old Hollywood storytelling. Its both an expose and a study of fleeting fame.

>Double Indemnity

Would Sterling Hayden do as a replacement? If not for him ratting out his co-stars, he would have a longer career
>Would Sterling Hayden do as a replacement?
I would like to see it to judge. I can't wait until AI gets to that point lol. I'll replace Stanwyck with pic related.
>Fricking joke of a film
Your post is a fricking joke, you film illiterate dumbass.
Rear Window and Double Indemnity are two of the ones I really like.
>YOU'RE PROBABLY WONDERING HOW I GOT HERE...
the problem is that it invented so many cliches. this movie came out in 1950
What makes it kino is Gloria Swanson acting out her real life as a post wall starlet on screen.

She was on famous silent films.
they should've picked one that could act then
She is an old actress acting like an insane old actress who is always acting IRL like she's on set. It's brilliant.

>dude it's about concepts
Yeah. I get that much. Ever heard of execution? Ever heard of engagement? Ever heard of tone?
Yes, watch it again and give it some thought. It's a great film.
This one is great too
The lighting in this film is dark as you can get.

Raoul Walsh is not talked about enough in film circles.
Agreed, I especially love the pictures he did with Errol Flynn. Objective, Burma! is my favorite
