They clearly didn't, she was portrayed as massively inferior to Superman. Cavill's Superman had a knockdown drag out brawl with Zod and won while Supergirl literally took a 1 hit KO for one of her deaths.
They didn't go into it that much in the movie, but a largely depowered Kryptonian should take quite some time to re-power from sunlight. In comics when Supes was totally drained in Infinite Crisis he was then away (time-skipped) recharging for A YEAR. Film did have her collapsing after taking out the Russians.
Snyder's movies implied they charge energy from the yellow sun instantly, that's the reason why Zod became super strong in the first movie
