>Superman didnt become Superman.

>”Superman didn’t become Superman. Superman was born Superman. When Superman wakes up in the morning, he’s Superman. His alter ego is Clark Kent. His outfit with the big red S, that’s the blanket he was wrapped in as a baby when the Kents found him. Those are his clothes. What Kent wears; the glasses, the business suit… that’s the costume. That’s the costume Superman wears to blend in with us. Clark Kent is how Superman views us, and what are the characteristics of Clark Kent? He’s weak, he’s unsure of himself, he’s a coward. Clark Kent is Superman’s critique on the whole human race.”

Old bait. Everyone on Cinemaphile knows this says more about the character than Superman.
    >Superman didn’t become Superman. Superman was born Superman.
This is correct but Superman doesn't need to "criticize" the human race, he can change it.

You just know Zack Snyder took this scene at face value.

      Explain how he’s wrong

Because Clark Kent isn't a mask. Clark Kent is a real person raised by real human parents who love and believe in him. Superman and Clark Kent are the same person, Superman just projects a bit more bravado than Clark himself. Superman is the mask.

This really should end this common meme. It's just some Hollywood writer interpretation of some Hollywood dramatic villain that thinks killing is his and his ex gfs superpower and they shouldn't hide that, using Superman as an analogy cause he's some common globally known IP. Could've just as well used any other superhero, wonder woman or any X-Men or blade, but superman's just some guy that even a kid in China or old man in Australia would get.

most writers havent moved past the silver-age
batman isnt immune either, since the campy 60s adam west batman was seen as the standard until the 89 movie came out, and the jokes wouldnt stop completely until the nolan movies came out
or how aquaman was the useless superfriend for decades, despite being a heavy hitter in the comics, until jason momoa came along

Clark Kent and Superman are the same person but different ways of presenting his core ideals and values but they're synonymous and represent the same inherent values and beliefs. Both are masks that exist because the world doesn't allow for him to be his true self and both are inherently not entirely representative of the the true self but it doesn't make either disingenuous.

Clark allows him to interact with people in a human way and Superman allows him to interact as a hero while keeping the people around him safe. Superman is humble and thoughtful in the same ways that Clark is brave and valorous. He grew up having to keep these two lives separate out of necessity and as a result neither are truly real or fake.

There's actually four parts to Superman. You could probably argue for more but these feel like the core components:

    Clark Kent the farmer's son.

    Clark Kent the mild-mannered reporter.

Kal-El the Last Son of Krypton.

    Superman the Man of Steel.

Of these, I feel like the Reporter is the closest to being an alter ego, but it is not a critique on the human race, it's just the most unassuming he could make himself so as to still lead a normal life in public. It's what allows him to connect to current events and the man on the street through the researching and writing of his articles for the Daily Planet. His mannerisms in this guise are fake, but the words he projects to the world through the paper are his own.

The Farmer's Son is clearly the core of who Clark is. It's who he was before he donned the cape and tights, before he came into his powers, before he moved to the big city. It's who he is when he's alone with his folks at home or just hanging out with Lois and completely at ease. It's the values he learned at home that defined the hero he would become. It's his foundation, which is why nearly all "Evil Superman" stories have to frick around with it. Ma and Pa Kent are his bedrock; remove or corrupt them and you no longer have Clark Kent in either name or substance.

Kal-El is who he could have been, Clark's fantasies of what a life on Krypton uninterrupted by cataclysm might have been like. It's the wistfulness for a home and family he never knew. Some people prefer to call him by this name above all others, and it typically signifies they don't see Clark Kent the Farmer's Son as legitimate or deserving of respect.

Superman isn't so much a mask as how he puts the values imbued in him by his adoptive parents into action. He hides his true name, but the goodness he projects when he dons the cape is genuine. The Man of Tomorrow is his actual view of humanity, both the innate goodness he sees in our hearts and an icon signifying what we could become.

Feel free to copy and paste this or screencap it:

This speech is condemnation of Bill's character from his own mouth. This is how he sees himself and the bride in Kill Bill 1 and 2. He saw himself and the bride as killers who pretended to be normal people to further the goals of that particular vocation. This does not mean that Quintin Tarantino believes this about Superman. Nor is this a statement that Bill's observation is correct.

The difference between this explanation and Clark Kent is simple. Clark Kent was raised as a boy to be a good person by his parents. The values he holds as Superman as the same he holds as Clark Kent. Superman's ultimate goal is a world where Superman is not needed. Where he can live at Clark Kent. Contrary to the speech here, Clark Kent is reaching for a goal where he can be Clark Kent as much as possible and eventually, the end state he seeks is to be Clark Kent in perpetuity. Superman was created to help a world in dire need of him.

      >This speech is condemnation of Bill's character from his own mouth.
When you put those words into the mouth of a charismatic and even likeable villain, there are always going to be a small but influential number of people who take the villains words as truth regardless of context. See also The Joker and Skyler Turden.
That and we can't rule out that this is how Tarantino actually sees Superman as a character.

Tarantino knows. The whole point of the speech was to show that despite appearances, Bill was the same monster he always was.

Still doesn't change the fact that it did more damage to Superman's public perception in one line of iconic dialogue than anything that came before it.

Luthor did make a similar speech to Clark in All Star Superman. Unaware that Clark and Superman were the same person.
"I like you Kent. You're modest, humble, uncoordinated. Everything he's not."
