When I was a kid I would constantly beat my younger brother. I mean I really laid into the poor fella, black and blue. When my second brother was born, and I was tasked with babysitting, I would tie the toddler to a chair just so he wouldn't squirm (might have given him autism).
Dreamt of becoming a motorcycle cop or mounted police so I could beat football hooligans like a medieval knight.
I used to shove traffic light beggars with my car and motorcycle, force the homeless to bathe in aqueducts, severed the pinky fingers of juvenile 'gopniks' with wire cutters (yakuza joke).
Get this, once pissed all over some butthole's parents as he cried. There was an episode when I forced a teenager to suck some drunk bum's wiener so that he could have 'a taste of prison' lmao.
Ultimately, I ended up getting a record because of such pranks. The military registration office wanted nothing to do with me. Furthermore, can't work in the ministry of internal affairs. Bummer. I mostly 'hurt' evil people.

P.S. I later got my record wiped clean so I could immigrate (rich father). Clean slate.

Because there's no such thing as a "good actor". Actor's success or failure in a movie relies totally on the skill of the director. A good director can make even the shittiest actor look fantastic in a role. There's never ever been a single badly directed movie that was made great or even good by an actor's performance. The greatest actors in history couldn't make a Zac Synder movie watchable (to anyone with an IQ above room temperature).

Because Elias thought it was another asiatic at first and then saw it was a "friendly." Whatever differences they may have had, they were still both part of the Platoon, and thus a kind of dysfunctional family. Elias never suspected Barnes to be capable of murdering another member of the Platoon in that way.

It makes the scene more impactful because it's such a betrayal.

Is it possible Elias would’ve dropped the allegations against Barnes if he had just saved him instead of shooting him and leaving him for dead?

Naw, Elias is too much of a moralgay. Honestly though it would probably have blown over and been dropped anyways because no one had time for that shit. The only reason My Lai got out was because several different moralgays observed and reported it, and one guy consistently kept bringing it up and trying to expose it even after the Military had basically covered it up. There were probably hundreds of incidents like in Platoon that got reported and covered up because the Army couldn't afford bad press.

Also Elias missed the killing i think. He likely would have ran over sooner if he saw what happened. Some of the platoon would have told the truth, but some would have lied including the lieutenant. Elias may have let it go or likely just not been successful. Doesn't stop Barnes from being paranoid and angry at Elias in general.

Back then he probably would have been diagnosed as a Sociopath (someone who doesn't feel empathy), but that term isn't really used today because it's kind of misleading. People we would call Sociopaths actually do feel empathy, but they for whatever reason they feel enjoyment and even sexual gratification from the suffering and pain of others. These are the kinds of people who often become serial killers or violent criminals. The vast majority of people with sociopathic tendencies don't actually ever act on them that far though. A scary percentage of the population is probably some level of sociopathic but would never admit it. In many ways civilization is basically one giant attempt to curb and control those tendencies.

Anyways, you take someone with that kind of pathology (enjoyment of inflicting suffering) and put them in a situation where they can hurt, maim, kill, and otherwise let them loose on people, and they go wild like a kid in a fricking candy shop. Often it's a power thing, and these people, who were repressed and felt powerless to act on these impulses in private life, are now in a situation where they can exercise power and violence over others with no repercussions.

Bunny's problem is he's a troubled youth with sociopathic tendencies let loose in an environment where no one is going to stop him acting on his worst and most violent impulses, and he likes it.

                Anonymous

                Yes.

Barnes is brutal, but he's pragmatic. Barnes' whole ethos is about being as brutal as possible in order to keep his Men alive. He doesn't actually enjoy killing or hurting people, it's just something that has to be done to keep his Men alive.

Bunny actually enjoys killing and hurting people, and probably would have severe issues if returned to civilian life. If Bunny had survived and been discharged he almost certainly would have ended up either dead or in prison in civilian life.

                Anonymous

I doubt Barnes would adjust well with civilian life too though

                Anonymous

He would have issues likely, but he has more of a chance than Bunny. Barnes would be more likely to be a life long alcoholic, and he would have what today would be classified as PTSD and probably some other mental issues. If Barnes becomes a criminal, it's because of socio-economic factors, not because he actually enjoys violence.

Nah. Bunny himself said he only got off from killing people because he could get away with it. He knows damn well half the shit he did doesn’t fly in the real world. He might be a little shit but he’s not stupid

Sociopaths understand that their behavior is wrong, they just don't care. Often they have very poor impulse control, regardless of intelligence. For example most serial killers understand from an objective standpoint that their murders are wrong, but they literally could not fight the impulse to be violent. In particular intelligent serial killers, when asked about what should be done with people like them, almost universally say either death or prison because if let into the world they WILL eventually kill again.

I guess using a filter would be optimal but I never saw guys do that, however when I was in the military I observed people smoking that way and when deployed I had someone show me how to hide the cherry. Never saw anyone use a filter but it makes sense that the enemy could potentially still smell you

did he kill you in a jungle during a patrol?

Did you two get into a physical altercation in some remote vietnamese village?

he was a cool salty old dude, had a tattoo of some asian chick on his arm from when he was stationed in Korea. They took it a little easier on him because he was the oldest and highest ranking guy in the class, but he kept up and pulled his weight regardless.
Was lots of fun constantly quoting Platoon/Apocalypse Now/FMJ throughout Ranger school. He called me Elias because I would carry the weaklings extra gear when they were falling out.
