This show was destined to be kino the minute they decided to make a character named Tedros.

The show is actually brilliant. Everyone who hates it are concerned about what "message" it gives, they have no concern about whether something is good aesthetically or artistically

Blood must be spilled. Not sure whose.

Tedros pretty clearly lost. Jocelyn has all the power now, and is enjoying turning him into her object/plaything.

He won because he still gets to smash that 21-year old white girl pussy.

But he can clap back. He wormed his way into her life to begin with, that tells you how powerful he is. Hell, she got off on the fact that he was jealous enough to frame her ex for rape.

He got a life of luxury, and his manipulation over her was clearly effective since she can't live without him. I don't get why we're supposed to think Tedros is the victim here. Maybe they should have left the fricking ending in

And I mean the show does occupy some post-ideological nether-zone, but it's a decidedly aesthetic-formalist zone based in Paglian values (Camille Paglia).

It's the kind of project that cares more about vitality and realness and aesthetic vibrancy than advancing some political ideal beyond said aestheticism. Needless to say certain people are going to hate this

The show really is a Camille Paglia show to a T. Everything about it.

It was visually beautiful but also a jumbled mess. It's a shame Levinson didn't direct it from the start, it would probably have been the series of the year.

I didn't find it that jumbled except in that maybe her turn to favoring Tedros again at the end was a bit abrupt or not indicated enough in advance

But I find the idea of people liking those who can be toxic or dangerous sometimes very real. And it's consistent with the values of the series which are more about beauty and inspiration than moral or political purity. And anyways, they did indicate that Tedros had a certain grace in that they made it very clear that he was actually almost magically INSPIRED and gifted, which actually really matters and fully validates him despite everything. That someone like her could appreciate this and connect with him at that level I found very romantic. But I understand that most people are resentful and uninspired and can't relate

It was literally shot on Kodak 35mm film, though. Guess you prefer digital?

Shooting on film doesn't equal good cinematography. Marcell Rev is no Robbie Muller, John Alcott or Jack Cardiff and Levinson doesn't have an eye for composition.

Jocelyne did. The very first scene she's shown performing(faking) emotions, that seemed to be a theme of the show. She was pulling the wool over everyones eyes and got her way in the end. Master manipulator. People that didnt watch till the end will think she's the victim in all of this but she's the truely toxic one.
    Tldr: Tedrosbros..we lost.

Tedros gets to be back in her life though, and presumably probably will have a defining creative influence on her music and vision, which is where he is actually gifted. He might not have the corrosive influence or dominance now but he's doing what he's born to do. That said for narrative's sake I'm sure in season 2 he would probably make moves to get the upper hand again

It will probably happen. The haters are a vocal minority who are screaming for it to end because its political ambiguity makes them uncomfortable.

But an increasing amount of creative people, including many at HBO, are getting bored of that attitude, and supposedly HBO are very happy with the show

I would say it's deuxmoi and gossip blog types, college activists, and normie philistines that can't understand how a show can depict something complicated without taking a strong stance or telling the viewers what is good and what is bad. These people are morons and shouldn't ever be listened to when people are making art

Art is not a participation trophy no matter how tired you are or feminists anon. Which are all enabled by israelites like Levinson btw

You’re such a room temp IQ you don’t know that art can be good or bad lol

Let me dumb it down further for you: Lets say you have a bicycle and you try to tell me it’s a car.
I would tell you it’s only a bicycle, not a car.
You come back with a car, but it’s a Chinese MG toy-tier car. It might be a car but that doesn’t mean it’s even on the bare minimum to be considered a good reliable car.

Just like there are shitty programmers, architects, chefs and doctors, there are also shitty artists.

No, I'm not saying it's good because it makes libs mad, I'm just saying libs seem to hate anything good lately because almost as a rule it can't map itself as narrowly and cleanly as they would demand it to

But it should do this on its own volition in pursuit of something real and inspired

You’re still wrong because this isn’t good lol

Any wattpad fanfic about characters of a Brett Easton Ellis book is lore interesting than this.
Levinson doesn’t have the finesse and is straight up pretty ignorant about the themes he’s trying to talk about on here.
And The Weeknd just desperately wants to be seen as an artist like people think Kanye is (debatable but eh) and not just a top 40 singer

An accurate Britney Spears biopic would’ve been more interesting and compelling and a better representation of what Levinson tried to do here Lmfao
