I mean, in this specific story he did need Joker to be alive so he could beat Batkek.
But also, there's a bunch of reasons for why he doesn't kill Joker, including, but not limited to:
    >He straight up just doesn't want to kill, let him do what he wants
    >It's not his fricking job to kill Joker, he just brings him to the authorities

It doesn't even have to be Bruce. Why doesn't anyone ELSE in Gotham kill him?

Plot convenience, get it through your thick skull, without Joker, there's not much of a story.
      Same reason Lex doesn't die.

Fear of missing. Also Joker has a nasty tendency to come back from dying.

Same reason why most people think a criminal should be tried by a jury before being punished even if theyre 100% guilty.

Because the joker is supposed to kill himself.
Most of Batman's villains are meant to have tragic/ironic deaths, they are literally designed that way. The joker should die in every rendition of Batman, not by Bruce's hands, but his own, the fitting fate of a madman.
The problem is the serial nature of Batman makes difficult to write that way, companies want to keep the characters around past their stay for money.

    >wHy He DidNt KiLl HiM
Answer me the better question. Why no one, and I mean NO ONE from police didn't kill him?
He's a fricking guy in a clown makeup. No one shot him in the head. When he's in custody, no one smashed his skull. When he's in emergency with broken ribs, no one makes him kiss the pillow. Can we just accept that it's suspension of disbelief and move on. Or say that killing him is meaningless since he's immortal vampire or smth. We all know why he will never die, so stop this idiotic discussion already, it's 2023.

Honestly, would people care if he did die permanently?

no such thing as "permanently" in capeshit but I think if Tynion had balls to kill him off in # 100 it would be nice.
I would be totally okay with Joker being dead-DEAD for 5-10 years or longer, like Xavier or Logan was.

This was written before half a dozen "THE JOKER IS BACK BUT HE'S DIFFERENT THIS TIME, HE'S MORE EEEEEVILLLLL" stories including unleashing a plague that nearly killed everyone in Gotham .

      >I believe in the absolute sacredness of human life.
      >That's why I'll fight to the death to protect an unrepentant mass-murderer so he can and will kill many more in the future
Batman is such a shit character.

    Because Joker is marketable

Batman genuinely caring for the Joker is bad characterization and the portraying their rivalry as some kind of timeless battle between demigods is so mad tiresome

It’s only “tiresome” if you’re a gay who seethes at them in the first place. They are demigods and it is a timeless battle.
