Betz started off his hyw events career by secretly teaming up with the pedophile coldfusion to color his comics after everyone told Betz coldfusion was a pedo and agreed to ban coldfusion from the event. Betz was always awful, it just took awhile for everyone to realize it after the honeymoon period wore off.

It did, but it would be bad form to post my webcomic as its own thread, so I need someone else to provide an excuse to shill.
I also like to keep up a general understanding of the schizoposters, I don't track them but I like knowing what the current meta is.
I just want to talk about paneling and digital shading techniques.

I shade before I color, but apparently that's unusual.
I remember that one guy who had a comic about women getting impregnated or something... showed us a real nice guide on shading, and that involved shading first and then adding color.
But it never looks as good when I do it.
Though one thing I notice about this is that the pre-shaded image already has the basic values of the different areas, including the stripes on the shirt, so maybe that's what I was doing wrong. But in that case, it sort of defeats the purpose of doing it that way. If you already have to make hair darker than skin before you add the color of the hair and skin, you might as well just add the color to begin with. The challenge I wanted this to overcome was how to shade something with a color pattern on it, say, stripes. but have the shading be continuous and even.
Oh I can never get this to look right, I don't do mine that way. I have my layers set up like
>lineart
>overlay (highlights)
>multiply (shading)
>base color
different art programs handle layer modes differently, so maybe that way works better in Photoshop, SAI, or Clip Studio
Turns out I have quite a few examples of how it looks when I do this. I use a medium blue as the temporary 'base' because both multiply and overlay will be easy to see on it.

I’ve been experimenting with grayscale shading before adding color to mixed results, but that’s mostly due to my own lack of skill/experience than an indictment of the technique.
It’s a perfectly valid way to do it.
