I admit she's kinda cute. Which makes her creation even more annoying as a character.
I said it before but seems like I have to repeat myself: don't like Cathy.
I also explained why it's bad. That was THE final word. No one has even argued with my points, because they are without refutation.
>persons drawn avatar is cute >they’re cute irl
Cinemaphile lied to me > Cathy is a candid, self aware expression of an attractive woman's lifelong self-doubt.
Are there any other comics about girls with a similar vibe/atmosphere?
Not that I can think of. Cathy is written by an unmarried woman for other unmarried women. That alone makes it unusual but what makes it (AFAIK) singular is her perspective as someone who's legitimately always pursued by men but knows that what keeps her from selling down is her own issues, which she owns. Women in general rarely do this and I've found modern female cartoonists are generally >Unattractive, creating a fantasy fulfillment setting based on unrealistic perceptions of womanhood gathered from their family and/or college culture >Attractive but emotionally messed up, creating a fantasy setting that complains about how it's everyone else's fault >Attractive and capable of forming real relationships creating a fantasy setting based on their adolescence and young adulthood with a patronizing "you too could have this perfect shit" quality
I can't think of a single female cartoonist other than Cathy out there saying "yes, it's me. I'm messed up and I know it's kind of funny but I can't help it"
There probably are but I don't know who they are. If you know what to look for I bet you can find it.
Cathy had a run where a nice, handsome personal trainer actually liked her and they went out for a while but her hang ups completely sabotaged it.
Growing up I read Cathy just because it was there mixed in with the funnies and thought it was dumb but compared to modern stuff it's almost refreshing to see a female characters whose problems are self made and not the patriarchy.
>persons drawn avatar is cute >they’re cute irl
Who the frick says that. Everybody here won't stop going on about how attractive people draw/portray themself in outlandish ways while the fuglies cutiefy their self portrayals.
The self-doubting boomer gave birth to gen x and gen y girls who they raised to be infinitely and unwarrantedly confident in their own mediocrity, leading to hilarious results and a massive wave of single moms and childless spinsters.
I will not rest until everyone haters Cathy as much as I do. Two years ago, there was a long thread where I argued why Cathy sucks, and I can't believe the comic has fans even after I made my amazing points.
Checking that thread now, I notice that I even interrupted a date with my wife to post.
A single woman in her 40's who failed at life is extremely easy to find, OP. What's stopping you? Are you one of those purity morons who wants a 40 year old unicorn virgin and a goose that lays golden eggs? Or are you just too deformed and hideous to get one?
>are you just too deformed and hideous to get one?
Worse: he probably looks normal, but his ego and sense of self-worth and social abilities are deformed and atrophied, and is now to anxious and depressed to develop them.
Cathy isn't good for you, OP. It's unfunny, ugly and dull. You're bett... No, you're not better than this, but I honestly believe you CAN be. Please, try
Is Cathy anything like Garfield, where there was a period of passion and cleverness from the artist which later settled into a repetitive rut of the same handful of jokes over and over?
At first I would agree, but I've grown to appreciate both characters. Cathy is there for women to vent out their insecurities, and feel like they're seen. Ana's there to remind them that while it's fine to vent, you shouldn't dwell on said insecurities, and that there's moments to cherish even in the mundane.
I feel like they're both opposite but necessary parts of the same coin. They compliment each other, rather than be at odds.
Cathy has always had a fairly healthy hatedom, and I do mean ALWAYS. But what was most likely started as men throwing shit at a comic for women, eventually women themselves turned on the comic as the feminist moment evolved and got more radicalized.
I feel like it ultimately boils down to a lot of people putting unrealistic expectations on a decades old comic that just wants to be relatable to women. Or at the very least, relatable to the generations that grew up on the comic.
I'm a 27 yr old male and grew up reading the comic strip after my grandpa was done with them. I've always liked Cathy, she seemed like a well written female which is why there is so much hate. Did you watch the specials linked in the thread? I didn't know they existed but its even better animated. She is a typical histrionic, self defeating female, surrounded by single feminist friends who pretty much give her bad advice and keep her down. I see groups like this today and it's a nice time capsule to the 80s. Literally nothing in dating has changed except the mediums through which we communicate. I find it interesting personally. Another comic I really liked was Nom-Sequiter
I would actually like any suggestions for comics that are still well written enough to still be relatable today.
Cathy has always had a fairly healthy hatedom, and I do mean ALWAYS. But what was most likely started as men throwing shit at a comic for women, eventually women themselves turned on the comic as the feminist moment evolved and got more radicalized.

What I don't get is why Pearls Before Swine specifically had such an intense hatred for it. Like, it wasn't even all that funny.
>Like, it wasn't even all that funny
That's because some people like you don't grasp some of PBS humour.
Another thing, PBS doesn't have "an intense hatred" for it" as you say. Pastis is friends of Guisewhite and he runs b y her his take on her old strip before publishing.
>Over the week of July 7, 2008, Pearls Before Swine parodied the tendency of Funky Winkerbean towards killing off main characters when it killed off Rat and the strip's own author, Stephan Pastis (the two would later be returned to the strip via the intervention of the head of United Feature Syndicate), with Tom Batiuk even allowing Pastis to use his representation of the Angel of Death in the second to last strip in the series.[37] A year earlier, as part of a long series featuring multiple storylines, Pastis remarked to Pig that serial strips handle long stories better and featured Funky, Holly, Lisa, and Les in a parody referencing, among other things, Lisa's breast cancer. Pastis was given Batiuk's blessing to run the strip, but just before it was scheduled to run the controversy over the cancer storyline grew to the point where Pastis pulled it from publication as he believed, although he never mentioned the disease by name, anyone who read his strip could infer that he was making light of cancer patients and Pastis did not wish to have Pearls drawn into the controversy.[38]
>i never really could pinpoint the reason why people disliked it so much
Bad art, ugly designs, amateur looking.
The jokes aren't funny. In fact, there are no jokes.
Cathy herself is annoying, has no charm, and complains a lot. Goes ACK and the whole thing was a success just because it's hashtag relatable before hashtags existed. At best it's mediocre and even that's very rare.
Darn, she's annoying. Like, she knows she can not eat the entire thing of chocolates, right? She knows she can shut up? She is aware that keeping her mouth shut is an option?
She's the kind of chick that in real life everyone agrees should use her mouth to suck more dick, and eat and complain less. Honestly, go home and jerk off! Or better yet, get laid! You'll have a better attitude and won't have much frustration so you won't eat needlessly.
The kind of chick everyone knows is the originator of her own problems, which would be kinda fine if she didn't complain about them.
Did I mention the comic is not funny?
Did I mention it looks bad?
A comic strip that isn't funny and also looks bad has literally failed at the two basic things it's meant to do. Comics should at least do one of those things correctly.
There will be no argument, this is the final word. Cathy is bad, so stop liking it. A couple of years ago I already said all of this, so why are you still posting this shit? The final word has already been said!
I even drew my own character to show how easy and fast it was. No effort, and I did it better than the author of Cathy. Mine was shitty too, dont get me wrong, but it was millions of times better. No effort. I intentionally did it with no effort, and still did it better.
I hear your point but cathy is so irrelevant that hating it this much is like hearing a song you hate on a radio with the volume barely above mute and screaming that someone turn it off this instant.

You think people don't complain about songs they hate? That's one of the things people complain the most about. Have you ever interacted with other humans? >I hear your point but
"But"?
No, friend. No "but". If I'm crazy for being angry at this comic, if it's wrong that I rant, fine. So be it, I'm insane.
But about the comic, am I wrong?
No. I am right.
Also, I was replying to a post that actually said:

DO YOU...
HAVE MORE??
I can't post most of them here.
You could start a thread on /aco/.
There is always the option of dumping them in a MEGA. Also, this:
I am but have zero interest in Cathy

underrated post
This comic is bad, objectively so. Not an opinion. It's garbage.
I like it, though I like the shorts for it a little more
if youre a fatgay its pure kino
HAVE MY moronic BABY
Dilbert Manhattan and his identical clone about to rape her so neither will be virgins or gay
Cathy sexo
If you unironically enjoy Cathy, have a nice day.
Why? It’s a cute funny strip
This
>Why? It’s a cute funny strip
I proved already im at least two past threads, that it's not okay to like this garbage of a comic.
Ok grandpa, we know that back in your day you used to look cool for claiming Cathy was bad, just take your nap now
my Cathy appreciation has, unfortunately, rendered me nigh immortal
Why she has fangs?
Damn this is an actually good comic, I thought the best party of cathy was the robert crumb parody.
Kek
the contrast between the screaming and bunny face is honesty hilarious
crumb was like the original Cinemaphile drawgay
Crumb is just SIR if he was born 60 years earlier
SIR wishes, at least Crumbs wife didn't frickup his life (his life was fricked to begin with)
wait he got married?
wait, he's drawing bbw art now?
>that smug grin
Can't say he doesn't know his audience.
I find fat girls sexually attractive.
Then post more of them
Great. Is that OC?
No, I just can't find the sauce rn.
Meant to reply to
That’s ok, post more
K. I just wish Cathy art/lewds were more common.
same anon, same. alot of female funnies are underrated due to how dead the comic strip as a medium is but few are as underrated as cathy
i need her bros. I want her
Here's the full pic.
HNNGGGGGG
Imagine Robert Crumb lifting.
He’d crumble
He doesn't need to, he's a famous artist AND has a huge dick
The animated specials were pretty good.
What’s your favorite?
>Of the three billion dollars that will spent on Valentine's week, two billiion of it will be spent by me...
>Cathy's friend advises her to buy sexy lingerie to excite her boyfriend
>Cathy blushes nerviously
k-kawaii....
>sends up women wanting too much from a man
It really is self-aware.
A shame we only have a handful of these specials. It's the closest thing to an adult-oriented Charlie Brown as you're gonna get.
charming, the style works pretty good animated. good VA performances too.
man she's so unsexy
Perfection
>Cathy, I'm giving the tickets for my vacation to your girlfriend and I hope you have a wonderful time
man this sounds a lot more cucked in 2023
why the commercials even have soul?
even in low quality the girls are cute
Poggers
Cathy's voice is adorable btw.
I know right? It’s so soothing yet funny, especially in the valentine one when she’s behind the snowman
Also, same VA.
Nice
Cathy is like the opposite of what comics by women have come to be.
Cathy is a candid, self aware expression of an attractive woman's lifelong self-doubt.
>real Cathy is thin
Huh...
Maybe she had an eating disorder and always thought she was fat ?
Damn that's a good take
wtf cathy is hot ?
Also the cartoonist is cute too.
I admit she's kinda cute. Which makes her creation even more annoying as a character.
I said it before but seems like I have to repeat myself: don't like Cathy.
I also explained why it's bad. That was THE final word. No one has even argued with my points, because they are without refutation.
ACK
>the real cathy isn't even chubby
what the frick
All her chubby is on the inside
Yes, this is also a good take. Being a little bit fat is just the visually easiest and probably most relatable focus for female self-doubt
>persons drawn avatar is cute
>they’re cute irl
Cinemaphile lied to me
> Cathy is a candid, self aware expression of an attractive woman's lifelong self-doubt.

>was a Cinemaphile waifu until everyone found out she's absolutely not attractive irl
you love to see it.
People stopped waifuing her because she disappeared entirely after a while, not because of the face reveal.
Lmao isn't she the one some drawgay drew fricking Ronnie?
>I browse frequently enough to recognize someone from /tg/
Holy shit, I need to take a break.
Most feminist comics were self aware being a woman is hard and confusing type stuff.
The self-doubting boomer gave birth to gen x and gen y girls who they raised to be infinitely and unwarrantedly confident in their own mediocrity, leading to hilarious results and a massive wave of single moms and childless spinsters.
Stop posting on Cinemaphile, Ray.

No, but she is chubby. Two differences, though: my wife is real, and she is actually very funny.

None with big enough breasts to meet my standards-ack!
Is Cathy anything like Garfield, where there was a period of passion and cleverness from the artist which later settled into a repetitive rut of the same handful of jokes over and over?
I haven’t read enough strips to know that, but I’m betting the quality went down during the 2000’s
The good cathy
At first I would agree, but I've grown to appreciate both characters. Cathy is there for women to vent out their insecurities, and feel like they're seen. Ana's there to remind them that while it's fine to vent, you shouldn't dwell on said insecurities, and that there's moments to cherish even in the mundane.
I feel like they're both opposite but necessary parts of the same coin. They compliment each other, rather than be at odds.

Cast Cathy in the inevitable live action film
The role would probably be wasted on Melissa McCarthy. I have nothing against her personally, I just hate her acting style. I have no idea who I would cast instead though.
I fear morons would put Amy Schumer. also this
Jennifer Lawrence after putting on 15 lbs
Milana Vayntrub
she's not a bad choice but her breasts are probably too big. she could just wear sweaters all the time i guess.
I can see it
Frick off.
Cn you do 20?
Chrissy Metz.
This shit reminds me of middle age white women.....like my mom, my mom like this comic....I hate my mom.
looks just like a sp character
This is based on an old suggestion from an old Cathy thread. Details are technically covered so it should be blue board safe.

The sides of the microbikini indenting is the part I'm most proud of.
I can tell, those extra details are much appreciated.
