Its NOT the status quo and it's NOT the crossovers

It's the fact Marvel and DC mostly hire mediocre Z-list writers that don't even like superheroes, so the vast majority of their comics will never be good, it's their business model to never produce good shit because that would be expensive, that would lead to writers demanding copyrights.

And what? Do you want me to read the tenth issue of a rebooted comic from a spin-off series that started from an entirely other brand?

Marvel and DC have good stories but they're deemed absolutely irrelevant on the next issue where the conflicts that were resolved just sprout outta fricking nowhere. Spiderman revealing his face to the public won't fricking matter because another comic will roll out as if it has never happened.

look outside of US comics and you'll see examples that are more emphatic and expressive than bold lettered profanity, though nowadays this could arguably be considered more of a tradition originating from censorship than censorship proper

            see

I'm surprised search engines don't pull up actual examples easily even though it's more in the french/belgian comedic style, in a less generic example you could have a pictographic beheading of the targeted character among other symbols, that sort of thing

      Anonymous

I find it far less egregious when it's used only occasionally. I haven't read the TF2 comics in a good while, but I think the OP example is alright because IIRC the comic doesn't use them too much, and it's done for the joke that the sweet old mum is an Aussie so of course she says (what's pretty obviously) "c**ts"
When it's used like how Tom King uses it, i.e. horribly overused in lieu of actual creative dialogue and clearly, painfully, only done because the author wants to be seen as mature despite the censorship, that's when I fricking hate it.

He was insane but not lolsowacky insane during meet the soldier. It was calcified as his new personality during expiration date but was started earlier than that. Post CLASS WAR, where he was still a gritty lunatic instead of a randumb oen, but earlier than expiration date.

the decline in soldiers cognition began in the update logs, lead poisoning was a explanation that came later, played well with other jokes.

Please Valve, let the creative team finish the damn comic. It was so close to an end.

Let's be honest for a moment, anon. If you have a game (and a comic that expands its lore) that pretty much prints money for itself with little effort possible thanks to gamblers and little kids overspending their parents' credit cards. Would you release the final comic or would you put it in manteinence mode like Valve to get more money?.

        Anonymous

That makes no since, the player base wasn't gonna stop playing when the comic was finished.

          Anonymous

If Valve completes the comic, that means the mercenaries' story its over; and that implies no more updates because their story it was already told. And that means eveyone will leave TF2 because there is no more updates that keep tha game alive.

On the other hand, if TF2 is in manteinence mode, they can keep updating the game while retconning the mercenaries story for as long as Valve deems necessary. For example, let's say Valve wants to finish TF2 in 2033 and makes the final issue, the time span between 2033 and 2017 (When "The Naked and the Dead" was released) is inmense. Then, Valve easily can say that all the updates between this time span happened before the final issue.

Or they could finish the main story and keep having update comics like they do whenever the game updates.

I have done everything in my power to not give Valve a single fricking cent of my money and I think I've been clean for over 2 years.

I am completely serious when I say that this comic not finishing is my go-to reason for why I don't spend any money on Valve or just games in general. It's not my only reason for not giving Valve any money, there are better reasons, but I'd have to say the actual most emotionally felt reason is the fact this comic isn't done.

I'm not blaming the artist, I understand her priorities working at Valve. But in the years since I made this decision to give Valve no money I've only been more and more validated that any money I would've given them wouldn't have yielded anything I wanted. I would straight up pay more money getting what I want from elsewhere. That doesn't mean I'll support some shithole like Epic but no fricking way Gabe gets more of my cash.

Release the final comic. I'm terrified of the idea of my own creation being left unfinished.
Plus, with TF2 as some anons here said, the comics don't really have any significant bearing on the actual game itself. If it's finished, Valve can still frick around and do whatever they want with it.
I think you should probably play the game you're talking about before talking about it like this, anon

I always wonder why Valve goes out of their way to censor “frick” in their games and comics. It’s always bleeped out or cut off before a character can say it so it’s definitely an intentional thing. They don’t really shy away from other cursing so it stands out.
    >inb4 Barney says it in Half-Life 2
His line does say it, but in game it’s censored by falling debris.
