just realized ive described every single piece of fantasy ever put to screen, so yes. watch this show if its interesting to you. they use an oldschool approach to mysticism where it's real to the characters so it is real in the show. all the norse gods are revered and discussed constantly
This was the best thing about this show. I only watched the first four seasons I think, but it was fantastic how they portrayed religion in the show. Nothing outright supernatural was ever depicted, but characters would have epiphanies, see things in the world they attributed to their god/gods, the show was impartial. Like the scene where the christian has a brain hemorrhage and goes blind or some such. >yeah the christian god might be real, the viking gods might be real hmm who knows
It was a surprisingly nuanced direction to take
I feel like this perspective is sorely lacking in modern historical depictions on screen. There is no faith, or magic.
You can accurately depict a situation on screen that incorporates the characters' interpretation of the events while still being faithful to a 21st century understanding of the world. It's bizarre how much historical media rely on an ancient person somehow knowing and understanding incredibly complex concepts that wouldn't phase a modern high school student, but would absolutely not connect with an illiterate peasant on any level. Makes my brain feel fuzzy and silly.
these people are either lazy or rarely want to go through the effort to use these settings to their fullest. it takes nuance to connect an audience to an ancient. they're like aliens to us. even just 100 years ago feels like another planet. the writing should reflect at least a little bit of that, instead of just having the character "disagree" with the status quo of the time. it works for singular issues, but never as an excuse to just write a modern character that has a sword and a horse.
He’s Australian. I don’t actually think he’s a very good actor because he acts the exact same way in every project he’s in like Raised by Wolves. But he has a certain charm.
It's okay, gets progressively worse with every passing season, also there's lots of cuckolding in this because the writer Michael Hirst is a homosexual that likes to watch his two actress daughters have sex with various men.
Listen to the people who say stop watching when Ragnar dies. I didnt and I wish I had. >b-b-but I wanna see how it plays out with Based Bjorn and the other sons.
No you dont. Just read what happens on wikipedia.
yeah just prepare yourself for some weird tonal issues and horrible choreography in large line battles. but hey, they have line battles.

Vikings did it right.
exactly, that was what intrigued me into continuing to watch the show after I had started it
same. helps the slop go down easy.

watch until they get rid of athelstan, the best character
It’s alright, but I would say you should watch The Last Kingdom instead.
wasn't that some netflix garbage
OP please do dodge ''The last kingdom'' Destiny, is ALL!
Show gets carried hard by Ragnar.
Hmmm... wonder what happened... hmmm.... Ragnar carries the show.... then there is a big event and the show is bad....
people like that actor's acting yeah? never seen anything with him in it before, guess this will be my first
is he english?
aussie

Don't forget the warcraft movie where he was just british ragnar
There is a big event in the show (you will know what it is when you see it) and you should just stop watching after it. It’s good slop otherwise.
what the frick
bongs unironically deported all of their attractive people to australia
first 4 seasons are pretty kino, it kind of goes up it's own ass after that
I don't care what you say I liked Ivar. After Ragnar he carried the show for me
kind of hard to do with less bones
YOU WILL REGRETTT THISSS
>Ivar the Boneless carried us to victory? That's a mighty weight for a man with less bones!
Me if I was a suicidal viking
I agree he was great, happy he got some semblance of a redemption in the end and his last scene was pure kino.

its good for first 4 seasons

Also ignore the people saying watch Uthred Son of Uthred. It sucks.
