In Beta OOT, the medallions were supposed to be used for magic powers (probably replacing Din's, Farore's and Nayru's). That was cut out, but people have managed to recreate how they should look like.

I was smart and had brains and I used them, unlike you
there's a dungeon map and compass that show you where keys are. you explore the area and exhaust options until you find the key. it's not rocket science.
