I don't think you've ever interacted with anyone with dementia/Alzheimer in your life.
This was probably a very mild depiction of what dementia truly can become. People think dementia is people forgetting faces and people where it can actually be way worse. I've seen it with my family members and my friends' families when we talked about it. One friend's grandma would forget everything and wander off the house, searching her for hours, they had to install alarms and locks to every single door of the house. My own grandpa would forget basic survival interactions like he would forget to drink water for a few days, or skip meals for days. The worst one I've heard though was a friend's friend grandmother where she couldn't even understand what food is and they were finding her trying to eat a bowl of socks. Living like this must be torture and if I could choose it for me, I'd rather get a deadly injection than live years like that.
