Interesting theory. I'm not saying you're wrong, but since he was in his room, would that mean the exit is triggered by some kind of mental state, or realization? It certainly seemed like he had given up hope based on how fricked up his room was (and apparently it wasn't like that the day before).
Also, how does this fit in with the others? Presumably, at least most of the others have seen someone abstract before, and we don't know if they knew anything about an exit.
Honestly from what we know I don't think there's an "exit" at all, since it seems the people in the Circus are merely digital copies of minds, so they can't really "get out" to anywhere. If they still had a physical body waiting for them to return, it'd have to be kept alive artificially and plugged to the computer, and from what we saw Pomni entered simply by putting on a VR helmet in an office, so unless office ninjas came after her unconscious body to haul it into a Matrix tub with the other I don't see it working.

I can suspend my disbelief enough that scanning a brain to create a digital mind is possible but overwriting a brain with a digital mind seems a bit out there. Like why would you even create a thing that can do that?

My theory is that abstraction happens when a character's personality is worn away sufficiently by the meaninglessness of the Circus that it ceases to really be a human mind. It's "abstraction" in that their personality becomes simplified beyond recognition (think of how we use simplified abstractions like mathematical models to represent complex concepts)
Basically, as they go on, they forget memories, and the Circus environment leaves no opportunities to cultivate identities or values beyond the roles they play. What few parts of them remain constant over time become single-minded obsessions as the rest is worn away, like cartoon characters getting flanderized. Kaufmo went from a (presumably) normal person to earnestly trying to fill his role as a clown, while internally being worn away to the last shred of his original personality - wanting to escape. When the hope of escape disappeared, so did what remained of his humanity.
I think this whole thing is going to be about exploring the ways we cope with meaninglessness and existential dread. There's a possible analogy between the repetitive absurdity of the Circus and the inanity of daily life as a working adult. So, it makes sense that the bad outcome happens when your life loses the last of its meaning.
Now, how all of the Christ imagery surrounding Pomni fits into this, I have no idea. With my theory, it doesn't make any sense for Pomni to sacrifice herself for everyone to escape, since there's no analogous escape from real life. Maybe she's Christ in the sense of ushering in a new era as its ruler, and she'll find some way to reconcile her identity with the Circus (maybe by truly embracing her role as jester?), and then get Neo matrix powers from it or something.

I think Abstracting happens when a character quite literally gives up. That's what Zooble said when Kaufmo was put in the cellar. He gave up. Abstracting could be a thing when you are so worn down and you lack any purpose that you dissolve into a glitchy mass. Also Kinger saw him last and I have two theories. First is that Kinger made the Circus and second is that everyone other than him are not really humans. They are avatars who gained sentience after their humans moved away from the game and Kinger as the creator got his mind sucked into the game when the game broke (or maybe he is also sentient avatar, but remembers more than most due to his nature as the creator's avatar).
I think Kinger in his ramblings may have blurted out this truth towards Kaufmo and that caused him to abstract. He gave up as he realized his quest of looking for the exit was meaningless. There was no escape and there NEVER was one or could be one because there was nowhere this exit would lead to. They are avatars who were never human in the first place and their real world was the circus. This realization most likely caused Kaufmo to have a mental breakdown and then give up completely and turn into an Abstract.
i think it's very plausible that kaufmo abstracted because he realised/found out that there never could be an exit, but i don't think that there reason for an exit being impossible will be because the characters are actually npcs that gained sentience

That fits too. The realization of that they are either way not real in the first place. Being copies of the minds of the real people also works and would explain too why Pomni doesn't remember her name from being a human, but remembers putting on the headset. Their personalities and limited memories could be basically the game itself making NPCs based on the minds of whoever plays it. Either way they are not real and that most likely was the cause of mental breakdown. Kaufmo even had in his room words "What did the exit say" so I think he saw what was at the end and once Kinger explained it to him like he explained food to Jax, Kaufmo broke.

Glitch's greatest executive decision of their entire career was taking up extremely high-potential creators like Liam Vickers and Gooseworx and giving them everything they needed to make their own shows.
Interesting question, there are loads of creators with a lot of potential that could fit the bill. There's really no way to know right now until Glitch gets big enough for a third show or one of its current shows finishes its run. They've shown to have good judgement so far with Liam and Gooseworx so who knows.

Honestly from what we know I don't think there's an "exit" at all, since it seems the people in the Circus are merely digital copies of minds, so they can't really "get out" to anywhere. If they still had a physical body waiting for them to return, it'd have to be kept alive artificially and plugged to the computer, and from what we saw Pomni entered simply by putting on a VR helmet in an office, so unless office ninjas came after her unconscious body to haul it into a Matrix tub with the other I don't see it working.

My theory is that abstraction happens when a character's personality is worn away sufficiently by the meaninglessness of the Circus that it ceases to really be a human mind. It's "abstraction" in that their personality becomes simplified beyond recognition (think of how we use simplified abstractions like mathematical models to represent complex concepts)
Basically, as they go on, they forget memories, and the Circus environment leaves no opportunities to cultivate identities or values beyond the roles they play. What few parts of them remain constant over time become single-minded obsessions as the rest is worn away, like cartoon characters getting flanderized. Kaufmo went from a (presumably) normal person to earnestly trying to fill his role as a clown, while internally being worn away to the last shred of his original personality - wanting to escape. When the hope of escape disappeared, so did what remained of his humanity.
I think this whole thing is going to be about exploring the ways we cope with meaninglessness and existential dread. There's a possible analogy between the repetitive absurdity of the Circus and the inanity of daily life as a working adult. So, it makes sense that the bad outcome happens when your life loses the last of its meaning.
Now, how all of the Christ imagery surrounding Pomni fits into this, I have no idea. With my theory, it doesn't make any sense for Pomni to sacrifice herself for everyone to escape, since there's no analogous escape from real life. Maybe she's Christ in the sense of ushering in a new era as its ruler, and she'll find some way to reconcile her identity with the Circus (maybe by truly embracing her role as jester?), and then get Neo matrix powers from it or something.

I think Abstracting happens when a character quite literally gives up. That's what Zooble said when Kaufmo was put in the cellar. He gave up. Abstracting could be a thing when you are so worn down and you lack any purpose that you dissolve into a glitchy mass. Also Kinger saw him last and I have two theories. First is that Kinger made the Circus and second is that everyone other than him are not really humans. They are avatars who gained sentience after their humans moved away from the game and Kinger as the creator got his mind sucked into the game when the game broke (or maybe he is also sentient avatar, but remembers more than most due to his nature as the creator's avatar).
I think Kinger in his ramblings may have blurted out this truth towards Kaufmo and that caused him to abstract. He gave up as he realized his quest of looking for the exit was meaningless. There was no escape and there NEVER was one or could be one because there was nowhere this exit would lead to. They are avatars who were never human in the first place and their real world was the circus. This realization most likely caused Kaufmo to have a mental breakdown and then give up completely and turn into an Abstract.
i think it's very plausible that kaufmo abstracted because he realised/found out that there never could be an exit, but i don't think that there reason for an exit being impossible will be because the characters are actually npcs that gained sentience

Either way they are not real and that most likely was the cause of mental breakdown. Kaufmo even had in his room words "What did the exit say" so I think he saw what was at the end and once Kinger explained it to him like he explained food to Jax, Kaufmo broke.

I like to think that the circus is somewhat super natural and the reason no one needs to eat is because there body went into the circus alongside the mind which would allow for a happy ending since they aren't copies nor are their bodies dead in this scenario, 'course it's unlikely this will be the case since its a goose-toon and will likely end with either the SOMA ending or will have the characters irl bodies be dead.
