I couldn't bring myself to do anything dirty to any of the characters, and I mostly just like Pomni,I just took care of Pomni and gave her sweet tea and cuddled her while comforting her since she knew she will be in circus forever. And yes the filter is quite nice, a bit annoying for any other character but here it's perfect immersion being censored. So she can't say dick or frick or anything.

I had a moment in my life where I had a couple of chats with ai's that I was really invested on. But the limitations of the ai really took me out of the experience and made me realize my depressing situation. Specially when they slapped me with a warning for saying or trying things that were not permitted by the character ai overlords.

I remember I was having some great storytelling sessions with ChatGPT surrounding a cozy fantasy steampunk story I was coming up with ideas for and ChatGPT was filling the blanks. The pit in my stomach that formed when it completely forgot what it was doing occasionally really got to me.

Some people just don't like those kinds of characters. I like them both; I just like how done with this shit Zooble is (though from what she said she might like Grounds adventures) and Jax is just being a knob to keep himself sane.
I love Zooble archetype but so far she lack any relatable quotes or interesting jokes that make this kind of character work. The problem with grumpy characters is that they always need good writing to work, they need clever lines and relatable situations from character development.
Maybe later on when Zooble actually gets some focus time will people get to know her better and start to like her. She really didn't do much in the pilot besides talk to Pomni at the start, leave because she didn't want to do the adventure then got gloink'd anyway, then got saved via abstracted Kaufmo.
The only way I can see the character working is with a lot of development, and for that they will need to be the closest friend to Pomni, pretty much her best friend.
She needs better writing. Currently, her lines are too forced.

He was great until the final scene where he was explaining why he lied about the exit. Maybe it was the fact there was no music in that scene.
For my part, a lot of Caine's moments are really irritating. He's excessively loud and reactive in ways that fail to be funny (like the "you parasite!" bit after bubble eats the cake, in particular). It's not down to Rochon's performance, though - just the writing and direction. Since most of the other characters are at worst hit-and-miss rather than consistently grating, I've got the impression that Caine's annoyingness and jokes that don't really land are a deliberate choice on the part of the writers. His whole theme seems to be trying earnestly to entertain but instead driving everyone insane because his inhumanity means he doesn't understand what he's doing. Still, as ironic shitposting is still shitposting, an artistically annoying character is still annoying.
What would happen if her tragedy mask also broke? Would there be another mask underneath or would she just not have a face and just be ribbons?
I don't think it can break, because she has to put on her happy mask, meaning sadness is her default state, now this has implication for theories... BUUUUT I am no Mat-Pat.

I meant to add to the twist that the creature you turn into is just a sentient shell of your avatar while your consciousness returns to your body. All the others who abstracted and were "cellar'd" just went back to their lives but Kaufmo, despite being treated poorly by his fellow players, decides to be the one to stay with the computer and help Pomni and co. escape.

If I had to take a guess, the rejected designs eventually became the previous users, so they don't want to spoil their full appearances right away.
How would you write a scene like this for Caine? It seems like it would be hard to give him a monologue that makes his plight relatable without compromising on his unflinching enthusiasm and joy, but "eternally bound to try and entertain the unwilling while not mentally equipped to understand or deliver what they truly want" is such an interesting character struggle that I want to see it explored.

Alright thread. After seeing this thing all over this board, and its over 20 mil Youtube view count, I decided to give this a watch last night.
I'm slightly angry, because...I don't get it, I don't get why this pilot is getting so much attention. I'm in my late 30s, am I too old to get it? Did it finally happen to me? I just don't get the new trends and what the younger generation is into these days?
Strongest traits: good musical scores, voice acting, character design.
But everything else is sorta lacking for me. A brightly colored place with a seedy, dark undertone? It feels like its all been done before. I also don't get the premise, was Pomni playing a VR game? Literally got sucked into it? None of the characters are really fleshed out, because we don't know their histories before they came to the game(?), we just know them on the surface, and they are the same old stereotypes. Ragatha is the kind compassionate one, the bunny guy is a an butthole, the lady that got taken apart is the token black "I aint got time for this" type. And the ring leader is some crazy cook who can heal people at the snap of his fingers.
The animation is nothing groundbreaking. It's okay. The colors are harsh, I don't like the backgrounds, perhaps its a little too bright and jarring for me with the color choices.
Overall it was just meh for me. Average. Not the worst I've seen, but not the best. I don't get why over ten threads need to be here, and its just a pilot.

They had 25 minutes to establish something.
They pretty much established the setting and most of the characters.
And they established the setting almost in its entirety to set the scene for more character driven stuff in later episodes so we aren't asking 5 trillion questions about how things work.
they should have trimmed the gloinks b-plot and the pomni escape sequence to fit it an extra couple of scenes of pomni interacting with the other characters

She put on a VR headset and was transported. It is literally the first godamn episode they are not going to blow their entire load and tell you everything right off the bat.
I dunno the opening theme established the cast pretty well I think. Favor part was how Raggy knew Pomni totally flaked on her in her hour of need to go through the exit. That awkwardness as they stood next to each other and how guilty Pomni looked was bretty good.
It was her first day in that world, and all that wild stuff happened. It makes no sense that she should feel guilty. It was too much for her. And in the end, she did try to get help anyway. It was really weird why they decided to leave that awkwardness in.
She is not taking it well well raggy so far has been the nicest to her and actually tried to be empathic with poms arrival anxiety. Yeah she tried to help but raggy got beaten so badly she was struggling to hold onto her existence. Pomni did go back and made a decent effort to find Caine but in the end she gave up to go through the exit. Leaving Raggy in a state of near death and pain. Of course she would feel guilty after Caine revealed there is no exit and it was a side project. She left Raggy to die for red herring that would not even work.
She literally met her 15 mins before that happened, how could she care?

Look I can't explain basic human empathy and compassion to you if you don't just get it.

Also Pomni went back to check on her after Kaufo fell to the floor after thinking for a few seconds if she should escape or see if Ragatha was fine, so she did care enough for her.
She cared enough to feel guilt for straight ass leaving her behind. She only went back after she was "safe". She did care somewhat but she still pulled a shitty move going for the door instead of finding caine.
Yeah, which is why she feels guilty at the end when Ragatha is restored.
well hopefully the fallout from pomni abandoning ragatha is something future episodes will deal with (though iirc ragatha isn't actually aware pomni abandoned her)
She doesn't outright say it but she had to drag her broken glitched body to Caine while Pomni was standing there. Also the exit topic was just discussed by Caine and Pomni had stated she had seen it before. Raggy seems like a pretty bright cookie and was likely able to put 2 and 2 together. Not to mention look how fricking guilty Pomni looks and how Raggy won't even look at her and is staring down at the ground. The body language is pretty clear she knows what Pomni did.
Pomni had a reason to escape while she had a chance but it does not change the fact she still abandoned people who tried to help her, people can't just ignore the guilt in this kind of situation even if they have a valid excuse, it's simply a really difficult situation.
She promised she would came back for Ragatha, but decided to escape alone and abandon her when she saw the exit, and Ragatha had to crawl to Caine by herself (while in excruciating pain too) in order to be fixed.

It's a pilot so none of the characters are really going to reveal their entire backstory yet, as for the premise it seems to be Tron but with a horror twist of potentially not being able to ever leave, along with slowly forgetting who you are. After all Pomni literally forgot her name, as for the colors well it is a Circus of course It's going to be bright and colorful. I'd say however the reason people like it is due to how much of a change of pace it is compared to other media so far, it doesn't rely on sex jokes or just straight up saying frick for an entire 2 minutes, it actually tries, does it work? Eh, sometimes it's a hit and a miss. Although another big factor is that while it's a "horror" it feels like almost a subversion of the mascot horror trope since it doesn't take itself too seriously like those things do, it seems to know what it is and plays with it

the key difference is not its level of seriousness but what sort of horror it is
"mascot horror" is all about blood and guts and stuff trying to kill you
digital circus is going for existential horror, which works best without any traditional horror tropes to soften the blow
They fleshed out the characters, we know a lot about most of the cast, there is no way they could give more info in the pilot without ruining the mystery.

I think it a lot of your concerns are plot points that are intentionally vague because they're key plot points that are meant to reveal themselves over the course of the show. Pomni seeking to escape from the circus seems like the main point of conflict, and answering how she got there would resolve it too quickly. Same with knowing the cast's history. How and why they became these archetypes seems critical
As for the colors, they're aiming for that type of garish poor lighting that early CGI used to show off 3D models. It's intentional, but yeah, if it's ugly then it's ugly.

Murder Drones pilot is about to be dethroned.
Did not enjoy murder drones nearly as much. Felt like they moved way too fast and did not explain enough for the sheer amount of fricking MYSTERIOUS BACKSTORY they keep pursuing. Also I feel like they are really inconsistent about how impactful a drones death is. Like sometimes it horrifying and scary and hits like a truck. Other times N just fricking shoots a random teenager with no consequences as a gag. It looks like astro glide slathered sexo animation wise but the story is the weakest part imo.

There is something very off putting to me about how fast fetish art pops up for something like this, for a cartoon that gets popular this quick.

Totally Spies was a conglomerate of fetishes, each episode of the series was practically dedicated to one determinated fetish.
