It's not hard to understand at all anon, have you ever seen The Prestige? The idea is that if you copy your mind, it will carry on from where you copied it, exactly as you were. But now there's two of you. If you copy your brain and put it into a box, your brain is still in your head and in the box at the same time - you're not actively controlling the brain box, it's just a copy of you.
Okay, think of it in the simplest terms possible: Computer files. You copy a sick meme from one folder and paste it into another folder. They're now two separate iterations of the same file, but changes to one won't affect the other.

I think the horror would then now be that they're still conscious, sapient, and aware of their situation, even if they are just uploaded, digital copies of the consciousness of whoever puts on the headset. They're trapped in a video game while their uploaders are continuing doing whatever they usually do.
If this is the case then it would pretty interesting to see how they would react when finding they are really not real people

Yes I agree that is the point I was making. It's the crux of that whole "we're all actually in a simulation right now" conspiracy theories. Which, mind you, are bonkers and dumb, but it's a valid philosophical conundrum. The point of it is supposed to be that if we think and feel real and the world around us is indistinguishable from reality, then it doesn't matter if it's "real" or not anymore. I am actually 85% sure I picked this stuff up in Philosophy 101 freshman year at college. I just think it's neat to think about. I really do think it could be interesting either way but brain copies would require less handwavey sci-fi tech. Brain scans aren't that far fetched.

I don't think he's intentionally trying to get them to abstract, he's more so oblivious as to how humans work. They abstract because they go insane in trying to find an exit, and Caine just gives them adventures as something to do.

Yes and it is an extremely important one, the story is about the first murder. You see Caine if I'm remembering correctly was jealous of his brother since God appreciated Abel's offering more than his, Caine like a moron and angry man-child decided to bash in Abel's skull with a rock. This resulted in Caine being forced to leave the Garden of Eden and forever walk the Earth alone, he also has some way of being identified too, so if you see Caine you'll immediately know it's him. Caine would later go on to form multiple tribes which where eventually destroyed due to their evil practices

It's not hard to understand at all anon, have you ever seen The Prestige? The idea is that if you copy your mind, it will carry on from where you copied it, exactly as you were. But now there's two of you. If you copy your brain and put it into a box, your brain is still in your head and in the box at the same time - you're not actively controlling the brain box, it's just a copy of you.
Okay, think of it in the simplest terms possible: Computer files. You copy a sick meme from one folder and paste it into another folder. They're now two separate iterations of the same file, but changes to one won't affect the other.

I think the horror would then now be that they're still conscious, sapient, and aware of their situation, even if they are just uploaded, digital copies of the consciousness of whoever puts on the headset. They're trapped in a video game while their uploaders are continuing doing whatever they usually do.

Yes I agree that is the point I was making. It's the crux of that whole "we're all actually in a simulation right now" conspiracy theories. Which, mind you, are bonkers and dumb, but it's a valid philosophical conundrum. The point of it is supposed to be that if we think and feel real and the world around us is indistinguishable from reality, then it doesn't matter if it's "real" or not anymore. I am actually 85% sure I picked this stuff up in Philosophy 101 freshman year at college. I just think it's neat to think about. Gloinks were just a part of one of Caines little adventures right? I don't know if they're going to be a major part of the show or not. I'm sure there's some symbolism there though, but I can't think of anything off the top of my head.
As for abstractions, I'd probably guess they're actually the main goal of Caine. That he's deliberately trying to turn them into it.
So unlike their normal digital bodies which he can control, he can't control their mind so he can't just make them into abstractions. He has to basically mind-break them first.
I don't think he's intentionally trying to get them to abstract, he's more so oblivious as to how humans work. They abstract because they go insane in trying to find an exit, and Caine just gives them adventures as something to do.

You see Caine if I'm remembering correctly was jealous of his brother since God appreciated Abel's offering more than his, Caine like a moron and angry man-child decided to bash in Abel's skull with a rock. This resulted in Caine being forced to leave the Garden of Eden and forever walk the Earth alone, he also has some way of being identified too, so if you see Caine you'll immediately know it's him. Caine would later go on to form multiple tribes which where eventually destroyed due to their evil practices
