The median is the middle number of a set, the average takes the sum of all numbers in a set and divides by the amount of numbers. In the set 1, 1, 2, 3, 8 the median is 2 and the average is 3.

Right, the median is less impacted by outliers (in this case, 8) compared to the average, which is why it's used.

        Lets save you have five numbers: 1, 2, 68, 69, 70
The average us (1+2+68+69+70)/5, which is 42
The median is the middle-most number in the series, which is 68.

By saying that the median age of viewers is 29, what that means is that 50% of viewers are 29 or older.

Median is average you midwit. Average refers to the mean, median or mode. If you weren't moronic you'd have said people failed to notice that people were treating the median like the mean.

No, average is a more nebulous term used in a number for different contexts and scenarios which is why more operationalized definitions exist for specific averages and contexts (statistics), such as mean, median and mode. Cope harder.

Anon, there's a thing called probability and statistics. Just because you were too fricking dumb to get it in high school doesn't mean it's a worthless thing when analyzing data.

                Anonymous

I remember mean, median and mode being used as tools to represent number sets, with "average" being a synonym for mean. Things like outliers could make the median more representative than the mean but we'd never say the median was the average or that median and mode were averages.

                Anonymous

Sometimes the median is the mean, but not always.

If you and 3 friends took a test and the scores were:
                58
                73
                80
                95
                100

                The median score is 80
                There is no mode
                The mean is 81

The median is always the middle score going from least to greatest. If there is an even number of data then the median lies between the two datum.

                Example:
                1, 3, 5, 7
                The median is 4
The mean also happens to be 4

It's not an increase in adult viewers. We know this because viewership has consistently trended down.
This is just a decrease in new, younger viewers pushing the average up. Cartoons are essentially experiencing what happened to comics much earlier. These people are failing to capture the next generation of fans, and instead of recognizing the core problem, they are doubling down and steering into it.

If the new AT show is in fact aimed at young adults, why did they try to include little "hey kids" style morals in it? Like when the squirrel talks about communication being important, or when Cake ends a repartee with Fionna about nudity with an earnest "no I respect it" rather than the obvious joke that she's naked all the time? They're not objectionable but pick a lane.
