They've been doing films like that forever dude. Rosemary's Baby comes to mind, but there's probably even older examples.
It's really good my homie. Maybe the le slow-burn elevated horror shit is overdone now, but it felt very fresh when it first came out. Some might find it cringe but I thought it was scary, and the depression allegory actually pays off imo

It’s not very good
For some reason it was very highly rated and I’m always on the lookout for good horror movies so I was excited about this one.
It’s not scary. It’s slow. Bad acting. Australian production values. Dumb ending. “It’s a metaphor!”

OP here, just finished the movie.
I think the Babadook was the friend they made along the way but unironically.
Also very overrated movie, everyone spoke me good words about this one but It Follows was the same year and i found it way more of a better movie.
It Follows at least has entertaining scenes in it, Babadook is a bunch of nothing till the end. Like 10 minutes in your told there is no Babadook and it's just her with mental issues aimed at her son and you wait for the next hour + to have it play out.
It should have been a short film not a feature film and all the praise it gets is completely undeserved like some kind of meme took hold when it comes to this movie.
