I randomly threw this on, knowing nothing about it other than it was a Coen brothers film. It was kino and I’m surprised I hadn’t heard more people talking about it when it came out

There were 5 threads in the catalog at a time when it came out you disingenuous homosexual.
This movie came out years ago, it's reasonable to assume that OP didn't immediately recall 5 threads about a movie he'd never seen. You should be more kind, anon.
you should be more accepting of hostile posters like the one you replied too, its their hostility that creates Cinemaphile's powerful filterfield that is one of the core reasons we are not swallowed by the reddit force
Thanks, Black person.
no we are swallows by the lefty /misc/ troony gays and discord troony Black folk instead
you have chuds to thank for keeping those at bay
>chuds
it is lefty /misc/ spamming that gay cancer word themselves
It is a moronic anagram from some sort of movie or book meant to be inoffensive to any marginalised group that they specifically spam here to try an "beat" anon.
Go fricking back
>he thinks Cinemaphile, and specifically Cinemaphile, isn't already the most reddit places on the internet
That’s a big stretch but we’re not the kings of edge we used to be, I see just as much hostility and racist humor on Instagram comments as I do on this site now.
Reddit and Twitter are forever in a league of their own though
I've used this board since 2008 and it was never a nasty little cesspool. Frick, there were hardly any posters back then. This site was never all /b/. There used to be movie discussion, and none of it Marvel.
every other post now is
>WAS IT KINO?
>WHAT DID HE MEAN BY THIS?
>WHAT WENT WRONG?
or some other dumb question as a shitty excuse for a thread
I can't tell if it's bots or people here are really that deprived
>I can't tell if it's bots or people here are really that deprived
Its Indians and South Americans.
that 2nd and third question are perfectly reasonable thread starters, at least they're trying to get discussion rather than shit on Black folk or post about bawds
Unless you actually seek an answer, starting threads with a question is cancerous as frick. Nobody actually wants to know or discuss WHO WAS IN THE WRONG HERE AMIRITE BROS XXDDD LMAOOO. Make your fricking statement you limp dick motherfricker
I’ll take your word for it 2008 is pretty far back now not nearly that much of an old gay
It matches the general tonal shift of memes across the entirety of social media. And by that I mean the mass adoption of the most ADHD fast paced shit people can come up with stuffed with referential soundbytes. The spam of the same fricking audio clips pasted over normie social memes feels to me like it works to the same effect as posting
>KINO?!
It’s like peoples Brains have adapted to identify the lowest common denominator that leads to a laugh and require nothing more
>It’s like peoples Brains have adapted to identify the lowest common denominator that leads to a laugh and require nothing more
basically this. try making a thread with some well thought OP or original question and see how many responses it gets, versus blasting off a canned meme thread which will either get a bunch of replies or if not you didnt spend much time on it anyways. now that mentality is applied to absolutely everything.
It’s a scary thing, I don’t think I’m quite able to properly express what I mean but whatever it is you can definitely see it happening.
I’m not even above it myself frankly. In terms of audio, If I’m not in a cynical mood and i hear the Taco Bell *GONG* or some shit I can feel I’m already primed to laugh at whatever nonsense is on the screen.
>It’s like peoples Brains have adapted to identify the lowest common denominator that leads to a laugh and require nothing more
People aren't even laughing. It's like the barest of dopamine hits from seeing phrases you recognize
Good point, laugh was too generous
>This was one of the movies of all time
At least it hasn't gotten this bad bros...
I truly hope people that act like this are actually bots or 14 years old max.
As much as I miss Baneposting it was the turning point once Baneposting became a site wide meme everything else kinda fell into place. Cinemaphile in its current state is just Cinemaphile for movies and thats a real shame even the gays in the /got/ threads were not nearly as bad as what half the catalog looks like currently.
we have few good new tv shows and basically no good new movies. we're all anxiously awaiting oppoheimer and barbie and that's it.
>we have few good new tv shows and basically no good new movies.
Thats not why Cinemaphile discussion is bad we spent years discussing the Sopranos before the threads went to shit. Stagnation is not the problem it never was, the problem is that the userbase of this site has been supplanted.
>we're all anxiously awaiting oppoheimer and barbie and that's it.
>were waiting for discord meme shill movies that every crossposter with a tiktok account will be spamming the board with for months on end
Might as well throw up a new fish tank thread while your at it buddy.
>hats not why Cinemaphile discussion is bad we spent years discussing the Sopranos before the threads went to shit.
it hadnt been done to death at that point
Ive been around since 2011 so I'll warrant you had those 3 years I can't imagine but since I've been hear its always been a hateful cesspool its just now the racism has become less ironic and you can't really blame the culture on that when there is so much anti-white shit in modern day that eventually you're gonna see a lashback
I’m pretty sure reddit is the most Reddit place “on the internet”
>"A cruel ploy? Sign me up for another"
I don't see any cp on reddit anymore
you should be more accepting of my hostile wiener in your ass, ya frickin gay
He's a fricking newbie who should kill himself. He wasn't here when it came out so frick him.
calm down lil fella take a break have some water and a few deep breaths maybe
Sir, it seems that you are a no better a judge of human beings than you are a specimen of one. Just on a brief inventory I'd say you could use yourself a shave and a better disposition.
I do declare that it is you sir who loves to suck the wiener
Pistols at dawn or you a lil b***h
Correct. OP is obviously new and has been rightfully BTFO.
>if i'm needlessly hostile and overuse slurs people wont know i'm a newbie!
the only reason you feel the need to type that way is because you're used to not being able to, on reddit, where you came from. Go back.
>Why would she shoot herseof in the forehe- Oh...
A Netflix original Coen anthology Western is more niche than any of those things individually.
That said I felt it started strong and really tapered off. Some of the stories were poor.
I wanted to see more of Buster’s antics, he really was the best part
Buster only works and is only memorable because his segment is so short. If it left you wanting more than it did a good job.
Making a full movie about him would sort of unravel everything, you just cant keep up that quality of writing / tight pacing for more than half an hour.
I think at best you could maybe use him sparingly throughout a feature length film. Dont make him the central protagonist but have him show up every once in a while
I really liked the last one, and I thought Buster was crap.
Love that ol' timey prospector fella.
The one with Zoe Kazan was amazing. I wish it was a full movie
>That said I felt it started strong and really tapered off. Some of the stories were poor.
Basically this.
Tom Waits prospecting was my highlight I think, I usually don't like him on screen for extended periods either.
He was great, Ive never been a huge Tom waits fan but I realized I was actually rooting for his character and cared about what happens to him
the Prospector scene is easily the best one, not even fricking close
2nd place is the one with the wagon train with the Girl with the Dog
none of them were bad, people who say so are fricking moronic
The last one was pretty limp and didnt really go anywhere interesting.
The stagecoach ride with the philosophising.
it was pretty big on here when it was released, when I watched it a second time I forgot how morbid it was and it kinda bummed me out
It is indeed kino, great watch when you don't know nothing about previously
The thing is, while it is a good movie, it also is a streaming service movie. No mater how good they are, streaming movies are quickly forogtten as no matter how big streaming services say they are, they still are relatively small and the stuff their subbers watch is all over the place.
FOUR SCORE AND SEVEN YEARS AGO
The Meal Ticket one was rough.
All gold canyon is the best story don't let coomers make you think otherwise
It was sad but pretty predictable
Just bleak israeli schlock
How so?
The Coens don't make propaganda demoralization garbage from what I can see.
you will not get a logical or rational response. it will consist of something like nihilism something something from a person who has probably never seen a coen bothers film the whole way through
>a morbid collection of shorts depicting whites their push west as miserable, violent and dark isn't propaganda demoralization garbage
Don't project your shitty taste and low self worth on me please and thank you
That’s a stretch. The old west WAS pretty miserable at times, it was rough living.
the push west was often times miserable, violent and dark. nothing in this movie is more miserable or dark than real events like the donner party or something.
>push west was nice christians politely asking the God to build them all the Starbucks and internet cables
Ok underage.
Only enjoyed the actual buster scruggs part, he was pure kino
Everything else felt like art school Amateur hour with a couple good moments
>lets get this hideous israeli golem to play our cowboy antihero
Tim Nelson is great, you stupid homosexual.
I can’t derive enjoyment from these zog flicks
PAN-SHOT!
the way they set up the vignettes was genius i can't get over it. if you want to talk about subversion of expectations this film is the definition
Anyone recommended any similar films?
Mystery Train
Thank you
Dead Man
How the West Was Won
McCabe & Mrs. Miller
then u werent here when it came out coz i remember the threads
We literally ranked each story from the best to worst when it came out, and I remember we all agreed that the last story sucked balls
I think they were all dead and they were going to purgatory but I'm not sure if I'm putting in more than what they gave with that story, there was no payoff.
1.1 "The Ballad of Buster Scruggs"
1.2 "Near Algodones"
1.3 "Meal Ticket"
1.4 "All Gold Canyon"
1.5 "The Gal Who Got Rattled"
1.6 "The Mortal Remains"
Pick the best one, gotta go with the 5th one, it was long and satisfying, second would be Meal Ticket.
All Gold Canyon was my favorite if thats the Tom Waits one, then Ballad
The Gal Who Got Rattled. The awkward formal dialogue between Alice and Billy was cute and charming. Much better than the short story it's based it.
“All Gold Canyon”, hands down.
I almost teared up when the old man starts sobbing and shouting “He didn’t hit nothing important. Guts is all you had”.
That part had me on the edge of my seat, I really felt for the guy.
Mr. Pocket > Buster Scruggs > Wagon Train > Panshot > Mortal Remains > Meal Ticket
Let me tell you, buddy
There's a faster gun
Coming over yonder
When tomorrow comes
Let me tell you, buddy
And it won't be long
Till you find yourself singing
Your last cowboy song
There's just gotta be a place up ahead, where men ain't low-down and poker's played fair. If there weren't, what are all the songs about? I'll see y'all there. And we can sing together and shake our heads over all the meanness in the used-to-be.
>I’m surprised I hadn’t heard more people talking about it when it came out
newbie moron. Go back and check the archives.
>what if we made westerns Reddit
That pan covered son of a b***h don't hardly fight fair in my opinion
It was unfortunately quite mediocre
tv talked about it a lot but i only watched it later. i loved the golddigger story
