Reddit loves the show, I made the mistake of googling The Bear and went to the gay little echo chamber.
They treat being a fry cook like it is macvsog style Vietnam jungle patrols.

There's an "echo chamber" on Reddit for just about any modern show in existence

Reddit loves the show, I made the mistake of googling The Bear and now my anus is completely prolapsed from being fisted for the better part of a week.
My colon is so cavernous my farts echo.
My ass is now a stinky little echo chamber.

the smoking and drug use in this show isn't nearly as high as it should be
for all its "dude cooking and running a restaurant is le hard" bluster the show is pretty PG, especially in S2
hell carmy's own family is more dysfunctional than the kitchen, which is portrayed as a wholesome place of redemption despite the insanely high stress and working standards

      this personality type is insufferable.

      >you just don't get it do you???
      >I'm not a line cook because I'm a loser with no more valuable skills....
      >I'm a line cook, BECAUSE it is really hard and pays next to nothing. It proves how badass i am to work 14 hours a day getting shitted on for $6 / hour after front end tips out.

line cooks are the new zero pay white collar interns, except you aren't even gaining skills or "networking", you're just learning to cut vegetables and getting addicted to coke

This board really needs to have “”people”” like you post with a “civilian” tag so we don’t bother reading what you say. You’re barely human by average chef serviceman metric and we wouldn’t even let you wash our dishes without strict supervision. Watch your tone and next time thank us for our service.

I worked as a line cook at a busy diner for 5 months and it was so easy. I had to make burgers, salads, breakfast stuff, and meatloaf, the hardest part was standing on your feet otherwise its so easy to do

The hardest part about being a cook is the first month on any job, trying to figure out that pattern of your day and how best to operate yourself in that particular kitchen. Other than that the job Doty easy outside of the constant nature of the work if you’re good enough

try making peking duck, poached swordfish, chicken roulades, bluefin tuna and salmon ceviche all day and then come back and say cooking is easy

Jokes aside is it actually a requirement to be a total butthole if you're a head chef in a restaurant

So why do chefs act like this?

I once read on Cinemaphile that it's because the discipline of cooking for lots of people originally started in the military, a few centuries ago or so, and since then the profession has retained their rigid command hierarchy (e.g. head chefs treating lower chefs like trash) and their huge fricking egos, but has lost all their personal discipline and honor (they're a bunch of unwashed worthless junkies.)

The French chef system was modeled like a paramilitary structure but I’m not a cooking man so who knows.

Also lived with a dishpig and he was cool but also a drug addict and dumb as a stump

Why do I feel like this show is stalling for time? Im only on the first season but barely anything has happened, compare it to shit like the sopranos and its night and day just in terms of events that actually take place. Like they're just catering for a kids birthday party for no reason, they give the kids xanax, they make a little joke about it and then nothing ever happens with it and its never brought up again. Does it get better in season 2 because I thought this shit has been winning awards and i dont know why

I know this is a funposting thread and all, but I'm just gonna say it: it's not cooking that's the hard part of the job, it's all the bullshit besides the cooking. butthole customers, moronic drug addict coworkers, it's hot, long hours, on your feet 99% of the time, etc. That's the hard part. Now give me your (You)s where you call me a soft homosexual or whatever. I quit restaurant work a long time ago and I'll never go back.
