The circumstances are actually pretty different, it's not just a random interview, moral rights are pretty strong in france and Franquin's stance on the matter was very well known, and had been respected since 97. It's kinda like if a new Tintin book were made, it'd be a big franco-belgian shitstorm (but Hergé's rightholders are actually trying to find a way around it).
That new Gaston book is actually a pretty desperate move by the publisher. Basically some years ago they bought another publisher that had the exclusive rights to Franquin's original works for a pretty penny just to sort out the rights of the Marsupilami (who like Gaston belonged to Franquin but is also golden age Spirou's essential sidekick, also also a hugely profitable iconic character that even Disney tried to acquire at one point), and then all they managed to do was a couple terrible books, and with Spirou sales flagging anyway they're turning to the other Franquin property they now own because surely they can't frick up Gaston as bad as they did Spirou and the Marsupilami, right?

why do french comics have such a low rate of english translations? On the off chance I ever get interested in one it's usually mostly untranslated. I would have thought french, being one of the most common languages learned by native english speakers, would have lots of people willing to translate. Someone with a heightened metabolism will have a an easier time losing weight, and a harder time keeping it, with the opposite for someone with low metabolism.
But it doesn't make it impossible or anything. It just means that you have to think a bit more about how many calories you eat, compared to how many you spent.
I personally have a high metabolism, and I'm currently overweight, because I barely do anything, but I'm not even remotely near what someone what someone with a normal or low metabolism would weigh with my lifestyle, and in the past I was extremely underweight with a hard time keeping weight, because I ate a lot less, and was actually physically active.
Genetics does play a role, but you're right that lifestyle definitely plays a far bigger role.
When I finished school I stopped doing any exercise and discovered alcohol so I gained 20 kilos in 2 years. After that I didn't gain any more despite living the same lifestyle. What you're struggling to process is that it's a well studied, known fact that people tend to underestimate how much they eat, and obese people underestimate their calorific intake way more severely than normalweight people. That's what's REALLY behind the "I'm trying so hard but can't lose weight" phenomenon, not the minuscule differences in how people's bodies handle weight differently.

People are morons. And then there's idiots telling them it's "genetic" or "because of your metabolism", validating their moronic antics.
Whereas in reality, the people who remain slim without any exercise just never got to the habit of overeating, and are sated with amounts and types of food that keep them slim.
The most effective "weight loss diet" I ever experienced was when I broke my leg and had to lie on a sofa for 6 weeks so sedentary I had to take medication to prevent health issues from that, and my leg muscles atrophied a bit. JUST because I had to drop all alcohol and had difficulty managing the fridge door, so only ate the plates my mom prepared (she eats very healthy and light)
