The pillhead is so fricking sleek and timeless, it's like when Mr. Titan from Kamen Rider Stronger or those two Dan Luvisi cosmic head designs , or the general fascination with object head characters. Red Hood is a creepy, eerie design and it's much more deserving of an enigmatic villain than "guns guy who kills people". Wildstorm reject looking ass.
I liked this look too, but it really only works within the scope of that particular story. With Bruce gone, Jason was trying to be a rebranded Batman (spurred on by Jason reading a bunch of new wave marketing bullshit). Other than that, he's not really a cape guy and like said it veers more into villainy territory.
