A fricking classic. Probably the darkest film Disney have ever made.

I remember how afraid I was of Maximilian back then when I watched the movie for the first time (early 80s). The ship was creepy as frick as well, and the reveal of the ship's crew was almost too dark for a child's mind.
I don't know how the movie holds up, but I really liked it as a kid.

    >movie underperformed so no sequel
    >find out they made a sequel comic at the time of release
    >sequel comic ends on cliffhanger before also being canceled

    Was disappointed.

Yeah first two issues adapt the movie, issues 3 and 4 act as a sequel. Despite a to be continued ending on issue 4 there was no issue 5.

Whitman was known for doing quicky merchandising tie-ins half of which only went a few issues.

Shit, there was a 4th issue? I only have the first 3, from one of those spinner rack 3-packs.

Yeah, it's a better Disney sci-fi than Tron.

      >70s sci fi is better than ESG score sci fi
      Really? How?
Could it be the old white dudes writing it for decades or the coke being cheap and better quality?

I'm talking about the original 80s Tron, dumbo

It was one of my favorites growing up. The visual design, music, sound effects, and atmosphere are amazing, but the story and characters fall short.

    Just watched it recently.

It was fine, a decent sci fi story, but I can see why it didn't become a classic. Also, what happened to the good guys in the end? Did they go to heaven?

I interpreted the ending as them going through heaven, getting saved by an angel, and then being brought back to Earth.

Not even joking the thing I always took away from the ending was them.getting to have endless sex with the blonde to repopulate the solar system they found in the other side.

The sequel comic reveals they went to a parallel reality

It's a bit surprising for a 70's Disney movie, more adult themes and even a bit of light duty horror, but ultimately a 5/10 elevated to a 7/10 by John Barry's outstanding, moody score. Most other composers would have gone all Star Wars with the material but Barry, as always, understood the mood the film needed.

This was the very first thing I watched when Disney Plus was created. Not Star Wars not Marvel. It was pic real.

The movie has been memory holed for decades and was not watchable until now.

      >The movie has been memory holed for decades and was not watchable until now.
Its been available in HD on Blu Ray for years prior to Disney + as part of their exclusive movie club. Shame you couldn't be assed to do your own research before making an incorrect statement. Not to mention the DVD literally HAS been available for decades on Amazon. moron.

What designs do you like, specifically?

Everything except maybe the cast's uniforms. The bridge of the ship is stunning, my favorite robots are the red Sentry droids and I'm pissed they were skipped over in the past few years when Diamond Select and Super7 both made figures of only the main 3 robots. The blaster they use is unique. Maximillian is imposing. Vincent & Old Bob are a little goofy looking with their eyes but the rest of their design is good.

Haven't seen it since I was a kid but loved it then. Especially Maximilian, had his figure mixed in with my Star Wars.
