I consider stuff like Howlin Wolf "real" blues. Nothing against the movie. I like the soundtrack don't get me wrong. Sweet Home Chicago is the closest thing they get actual blues though.

This movie is amazingly fun to watch. The only SNL movie , if you can call it that, that’s worth watching and rewatching and rewatching.
it has very little to do with SNL. There never was a single sketch with the Blues Brothers on the live show, they performed musical numbers two or three times. Dan Ayckroyd and John Belushi happened to work together there and found they had a common love for Blues while hanging out outside work. Everything was developed for the movie.
