It won't be. The production budget was "only" 30 million, and the domestic opening weekend box office projections aren't bad at all when you take the budget into account. It will certainly break even and probably even make a good profit.

Yeah, that will provide competition, but there's plenty of room for more than one horror film during October.
Check the projections, this piece of shit Exorcist flick won't bomb.

the audience for horror is always a ton of women of various ages being brought to the movies by their boyfriends
that won't happen if they're going barbie-mode to see taylor or if they're making their boyfriend take them to see it instead

I think they're overestimating how much people want a new Exorcist movie, plus they didn't take the atrocious reviews into account

            Anonymous

Yep. Universal paid 400 fricking million for the rights to the Exorcist franchise. Insane. This new film itself was cheap and will make its money back, but overall this Exorcist venture will be a huge financial mistake for them.

            [...]
Saw X just released and did pretty poorly even though its only competition was fricking Paw Patrol. And Saw is way more popular these days than some random Exorcist movie.
Sure they might make a little profit on a 30 mil budget but this wont make enough to justify any sequels.

Saw might have more internet popularity among young people, but the projections point to Exorcist having a better opening weekend than Saw. It will probably drop off massively in the second weekend due to shitty reviews, but the film wil still profit thanks to its cheap pricetag and international sales.

Adjusted for inflation Saw X is the lowest opening Saw movie aside from Spiral. Saw is the least popular it's ever been.

True. But saw doesn’t appeal to women. Butthouse makes “horror”‘for stupid teenage girls. Jump scare shit. Not gore porn. Taylor Swift overlap is a lot bigger than people think and could
            hurt it

I can't imagine they will go through with those sequels unless this magically is a box office hit.
The 1st nu-Halloween movie was a huge success, I dont foresee the same for this.

This is just from the outside looking in, but isn't it kind of moronic to be a demon and invoke the Body and the Blood of the Almighty who will banish you to hellfire for all eternity at the end of days? I'm just saying, seems like a miscalculation on their part.

Feel kind of sad that Ellen Burstyn is still active as an actress and they managed to get her to reprise her role, which seems like a miracle considering she was 40 when The Exorcist was released 50 years ago, and then they just make the movie a piece of shit.

Whats especially damning is that even the "fresh" reviews are struggling to say anything nice abou the film. Very much "well it could have been worse I suppose" type of reactions.

And as for the negative reviews pretty much everyone agrees its a soulless, gutless, completely pussified version that can't go even half as far as the original did 50 years ago.
