Garth is super gay for the military and in his mind Cap devalues and debases real soldiers.

I always think it's ironic and funny that Garth was never been in the military himself and is based on his Ideal and fantasy on soilder/war on war comics
Yet he kept shiting on military superheros like Captain America , think hin as a joke

Ennis has such a weird concept of the military. For whatever reason he can’t grasp the concept that soldiers would love characters that emphasize them to a superhuman degree.
In WW2, apparently Captain Midnight was the most listened to radio show among soldiers, and Captain America’s always had a lot of love in army bases. As a comic writer, I don’t get how Ennis doesn’t see the escapism and enjoyment a soldier would have in those characters, the same way people enjoy Spider-Man or Batman.

Because it's not about what people in the army enjoy to consume as entertainment, it's about selling the fake, toned down, juvenile idea of war and disrespecting the actual heroism of people who died by making war look like easy and fun and light-hearted adventures, without the inhumanity, the horror and harrowing violence while also painting made up guys in spandex be the real heroes of the war who saved the world time and time again. It's like making countless comics about 9/11 and having Superheroes be the focus and reason people were saved, rather than actual first responders who ended up sacrificing their own long term health that day.

The soldiers enjoyed it, they weren't pearl-clutching and feigning offense like the bunch of limpwrists getting offended on their behalf, so who the frick cares if it's fake? It gave them entertainment they felt they wanted and needed and that's all that mattered to them.

Probably right because it would be the most effective way to kill him off and this show is too popular not to keep going and going until it zombies out or hits the bottom like GOT.

        >Finally after years of daddy and attention issues, you learn your real father is the the same superhero you idolized as a kid
        >you learn he always wanted you back then but he was forcefully separated from you
        >If he got to raise you right, he would have happily given the spotlight to you once you grew up
        >Finally you learn he's looking to make up for lost time and wants to hug you man to man, father to son

What I'm curious about is that if Soldier Boy didn't really do any of the Normandy/D-Day stuff, where is his PTSD coming from? The obvious answer is the shit with the Russians, but it's clear from the get go that he is fricking battle hardened with a take no shit attitude. He's actually fricking effective. He knows what he's talking about, knows how to fight, and has proven to be actually capable. So if he really was just a poster boy, how the frick did he pull all that off?

He had essentially been the cop who beats up protestors back in whatever time that was. He also got that confession from the Central Park Five, I think he was less a celebrity or more a paid enforcer. Like the Legend implied when he said current heroes were just celebrities

I think we're meant to think Hughie is right and the tough soldier guy act is indeed just an act. He seems capable (can fight HL) probably just because, as we see in BN's cartoon flashback, that he "sparred" (read: beat the frick out of his teammates) in the gym, which is more training than we've seen Homelander ever bother with.

You are supposed to see him as the obvious lesser evil for now like how Hughie and Butcher do, while the writers are foreshadowing he is mentally unstable.

Black Noir is easily the best part of the series. I really like the changes they've made away from Garth's moronic fricking "le twist". Ennis would have been such an amazing writer if he just toned down the edginess of his comics and stopped writing not-Punisher characters over and over and over again

      Anonymous

The twist in the comic is incredibly overrated here, I'm glad they ditched it in favor of making Homelander a straight up psycho instead of douchebag being "tricked" into being one. The real twist was always Butcher's super genocide plan which actually felt like a natural conclusion for the character instead of an asspull and I think they've been hinting at a version of it with this episode.

This isn't even a complaint, so much as commentary about a quirk of the writing, but the fact that he didn't storm Normandy, does it really matter that much even in story considering that he is a very competent fighter, who did repeatedly throw down at a moments notice, not only just in general but without a second thought with Homelander?
It feels like something they carried over from the comics because it was a good line but did nothing to actually translate into the show.

Its funny seeing how much this character absolutely broke Cinemaphile. Like they were actually convinced he was meant to be a good guy and only got changed with this last episode because test audiences liked him too much.
The whole point of the show is that the superheroes, and the Boys as well, are flawed. That's the entire premise.Being lulled into thinking Soldier Boy is a good guy before getting the rug pulled under you was always the point.
Homelander is meant to be likable, too. The only major character (as in, has a sizeable amount of time, not minor ones like Bluehawk) outright designed to be hated is Stormfront, for obvious reasons, but even she's given moments that make her endearing.

    >You know they say that all men are created equal, but you look at The Deep and you look at Homerlander and you can see that statement is not true. See, normally if you go one on one with another member of the seven, you got a 50/50 chance of winning. But HL's a genetic freak and not normal! So you got a 25%, AT BEST.. Then you add Soldier Boy to the mix, your chances of winning drastic go down. See the 3 way at Herogasm, you got a 33 1/3 chance of winning, but HL, HL got a 66 and 2/3 chance of winning, because Soldier Boys KNOWS he can't beat HL and he's not even gonna try!
So The Depp, you take your 33 1/3 chance, minus HL's 25% chance and you got an 8 1/3 chance of winning at Herogasm. But then you take HL's 75% chance of winning, if he was to go one on one, and then add 66 2/3 per cents, HL got 141 2/3 chance of winning at Herogasm. See The Deep, the numbers don't lie, and they spell disaster for you at Herogasm

See, but I'm gonna break it down for all you ladies. Would you rather be with HL? Or would you rather be with The Deep?

Yeah, i think having him "steal valor" was pretty unnecessary.
