Cate Blanchett was the only miscast and not offensively so. I hoped for Galadriel to be stunningly beautiful. I think Jackson reeled her in based on how pretty she USED to be. Instead the scene where she goes insane comes across as goofy, since she's not pretty enough to enslave the world.
Blanchett was actually perfectly cast. The elves are meant to be 7ft+ and the lowest possible height calculated for Galadrial is 6’4. Also, the elves aren’t meant to be *beautiful* per se but ethereal and otherworldly.
The way she was built up and described being the fairest lady and not holding a candle to Liv Tyler definitely hints at a miscast. If you want tall, they could've just as well taken Debicki.

Sam is fine imo, but Elijah Wood is way to meek-mannered to be Frodo. It doesn't help they completely neutered his character and took out pretty much every single cool thing he did.
They are definitely supposed to be beautiful as well. I give him a pass on the elves because there basically is no one alive who could play an elf as described in the books.
