The thing is, the 2002 Count of Monte Cristo largely ignores the novel and changes the entire moral of the novel. And it's absolutely kino for doing so.
>If you ever loved me, don't... don't robe me of my hate! It's all I have. >Let it go, Edmond. Let it go. I don't know what dark plan lies within you. Nor do I know by what design we were asked to live without each other these sixteen years. But God has offered us a new beginning. Don't slap his hand away. >God... Can I never escape Him? >No, he is in everything. Even in a kiss.
This is a complete and utter betrayal of the themes of the book. The film ignores the central idea of the book in favor of a story of a man who is persecuted and loses everything. Yet he gains everything because God has seen his plight, and rewards him a thousand-fold. The book is nothing like this. But the film's reimagining of its central themes is incredibly effective.
that's just typical woman-speak
doesn't he still fulfill his revenge?
But he got 99% of his revenge. Giving up 1% is trivial.
>Giving up 1% is trivial.
what is it, never seen that new one?
just the classics where he leaves the old french roastie behind in favor for the hot young Arabian princess
i don't get the decision to make his teeth rot in jail and then suddenly fixed when he sailed with pirates while his noble friend had rotting teeth despite the resources to not
Yeah, I think so too. They didn't frick around. I find other versions, especially US ones to be very soft, where they try to either play vengeance bad angle or portray it as overly emotional instead of calculated plan.
Anyone got adaptations where he ends up with Haydee?
I really liked their relationship in the novel and only movie that has this is the Soviet adaptation filmed in Ukraine
i mean it is considered one of the best novels of all time.
This. Great material, great cast, and great direction.

But Edmond does consider his wealth and the successful revenge a gift from God
The whole point of the 2002 film is that he should give up on revenge and everything will work out.

No it isn't
I thought that scene you quoted was Mercedes telling him to give up the duel against her son

The book is great but it's too fricking long. It's only that long because Edmond got paid by the chapter to publish it in periodicals
This is the 2002 one, since OP is a gay and isn't aware that there is a new adaption every year.
Similar to Three Musketeers or Les Miserables, you have to exert considerate effort to frick it up.
Because Kevin Reynolds is the best American director
It's a masterpiece.
What?, it's mediocre.
there is a very small list of movies that Cinemaphile universally loves. This move, waterworld, and Dora the explorer
Your forgot about Shrek
Dope-ass flick. Even if it does change a ton from the book.
Waterworld and Dora the Explorer are only enjoyed by meme-addicted homosexuals.
>waterworld
Starship Troopers
The Thing
Honestly most movies that I like I expect to be well received here unless you're a moron. It's because I have good taste
i don't get the decision to make his teeth rot in jail and then suddenly fixed when he sailed with pirates while his noble friend had rotting teeth despite the resources to not
Dumas' writing was serialized. It doesn't make sense to do it as movies.
apparently this is the wife of patric wilson how do I cuck him
Depardie is the best count of monte christo.
Yeah, I think so too. They didn't frick around. I find other versions, especially US ones to be very soft, where they try to either play vengeance bad angle or portray it as overly emotional instead of calculated plan.
He really is the best french actor. also the long format fits perfectly.
correct. also, the book is simply too long to ever do it justice in a film
Agreed, plus the funny-looking sidekick really had a period accurate face, and all women and costumes are beautifully made in that series.
I did not care for the Count of Monte Christo
we NEED stars my destination
Now go watch Gankutsuou: The Count of Monte Cristo
I second that one. Wonderful visuals, too.
