its like a fan rewrite of avatar. theres an extra element or two, some roles are shuffled around (girl is the fighter, airbender/avatar is the older brother, childlike innocent character has no powers), and theres no internal consistency whatsoever. if you're into dilfs its pretty great, but otherwise its really just a bad kids show. also they exported the entire first season at 20fps for some reason. im not even joking they actually did it on purpose too

Also most of this show lacks proper dungeoneering like ATLA did. In ATLA they did cool shit every episode, same for Wakfu. In Dragon Prince you sometimes end up with 4/13 episodes of nothing but talking and muh "dark magic bad" and "dragons good" trash.

realistically, viren is probably not going to immediately die or stay out of commission. the trailer is more or less showing a metaphor of his eventual fate. if the season 3 finale meant everything, i think claudia is going to be head honcho of human dark magic now. imo something is more likely going to warp her than viren.
It's just a crew member's petrification fetish on display, Viren won't be killed off yet because the writers use him the most to carry most conflict. Especially since they want him to have the role of "irredeemable human antagonist" compared to Aavaros' role of "mysterious eldritch fricker" and Claudia "tragic antagonist waifu".

It's not going to get Avatar-good, they already dropped the ball too much in terms of some of the background to current events. But there's enough fun scenes to carry you along, and there's a possibility that current events will change enough that you won't spend much time thinking about how fricked up past events were.
