I used to think that but ive come back around to thinking they are very dangerous. I still dont think it would be Le Apocalypse but it would be very very shitty and absolutely horrible to live through. The US was contaminated to hell during the years of nuclear testing. Kodak knew instantly the radiation travelled way farther than the government said thanks to it ruining their photos but secrecy prevailed and for all those years people got cancer and they now blame cigarettes LOL when the real reason is the tobacco leaf concentrates the radiactive elements in its leaves but the only reason there was so much to absorb was the nuclear testing.

Most modern nukes are designed to optimize their yield and produce less radiation than old designs but there are also weapons like neutron bombs designed to produce a fairly low explosive yield and maximize the amount of fuel used for lethal anti-personnel neutron disbursement beyond the blast radius (imagine an entire armored corps irradiated to death inside their intact tanks).
