So I watched the Dark Knight in theaters again and while the third act was absolutely baller, and I get the whole "let's not reveal that Harvey Dent was corrupted by the joker and became a murderer" but I also kinda find it dumb, especially Batman saying "I'll take the heat" like why have Gotham hate him instead of like him. Is it because the. Bruce would find a reason to give up? Like all they could've done was just blame the joker for the murders idk.

Because Nolan wanted this to be "realistic" and thus thought a real life Batman working with Gordon would want people to still have some faith in their law enforcement by turning Harvey into a martyr.
It was 2007, that era was less colorful but also less jaded than now.
>It was 2007, that era was less colorful but also less jaded than now.
2007 was absolutely a jaded time.
Because Batman can operate without the approval of the public. Public officials like Harvey can't. He knew if people saw the corruption in Gotham was enough to turn the only honest politician they'd seen in years into a psychotic killer they'd completely lose faith in the justice system and not only would future DAs have less power to help people but there'd be a huge spike in crime.
True. I guess I would rather the people of Gotham realize that they can put their hope in batman instead.
Bear in mind, we have the audience context of who Batman is, what's in his mind and motivation. The Gotham population at large don't, he's just a vigilante in a suit and vehicles of unknown origin.
I can see Superman or Wonder Woman stopping and giving a little interview with a reporter after stopping a bank robbery, maybe give a speech to the people they rescue about working together or friendship. Batman purposefully tries to hide himself from civilians and criminals alike, it's probably pretty common for rumors to spread that Batman beats up crippled kids and drinks woman's blood like a vampire. He should get a PR team.
Batman was at it's most effective both as a crime fighter and in terms of public relations during the campy Adam West era but then people blew back at that and went too far on the opposite side.
yeah but if you believe Batman can/should operate without the approval of the public then he's just another costumed nut terrorizing the city
there's no difference between him and the clown at all as far as the public are concerned if he's not behaving in a way that actively seeks their approval
and you might say crashing a train with no survivors would be a poor way to initially win their approval, especially if thousands of people in the city saw your light tank firing rockets at the track support
Lying to the people isn't something a hero would do. If they just lie and blame it on some other criminal, they are no better than any other corrupt politician that just lies to save their skin. The only reason they lied was to give back to the people who showed they still believed in good as shown in the ferrys scene. It adds to the message of the movie, that if you have faith in being good, even when everyone else is fine being bad, life will reward you in some form or another.
I see. Good point
>Lying to the people isn't something a hero would do.
He says about the scene where Batman plots to lie to an entire city.
Batgay is a liar like all his DIPshitted fans. All DC gays lie so fricking much. You know you have to lie when your cartoon hero is so ass that you need to cover for their loser status.
Dumb spic
