Bond is not an Englishman. He's a Scottish/Swiss man. This is why Dalton/Brosnan are the best James Bonds due to looking like they genuinely have that genetic makeup due to their black hair and blue eyes.

Definitely. Moore and Craig are two sides of the same coin. They were their own thing, which had nothing to do with James Bond, and were either too campy (Moore) and too dark (Craig). They stick out as Dalton, Brosnan, Lazenby and Connery all mold together beautifully. By this history, the next guy will be either Dalton-like or Brosnan-like.

I'm betting it will be Aaron Taylor Johnson which would definitely make it more lighthearted than Craig, I mean the guy was literally in the MCU even if only briefly

Have you watched Bullet Train? I suffered through that shit movie because anons on Cinemaphile told me that he's good in it. i am definitely sold. what about you? have you watched that movie?

I meant that people told me to watch it as it serves as a Bond audition due to a fairly general similarity to his character in that to James Bond. He can do the action and the quips. That's good enough for me.

it was inoffensive but it only had one good character which was Aaron's guy. the rest of the characters were insufferable.

I think Brad Pitt did a good job as this fish out of water character, and tangerines and lemons banter was pretty funny. In general it seemed like all the actors just had a lot of fun making the movie which just makes any film easier to watch when performances just bounce off of another so well

He was fun in Bullet Train, but he had a very different vibe than Bond. A lot more working class, not very suave.

              Anonymous

True but that could be what sets him apart. Like how Moore brought his own cultured Englishman adventurer personality into Bond, different from priviliged Scottish thug Bond when Connery played him. I feel like he'll just play that character like Craig played XXXX from Layer Cake as Bond. His Bond went to shit once they tried to turn him into suave quipster like Brosnan and you can't beat the master at his own game.

Everyone knows it’s Brosnan. Hardly a debate. But the others were great too.

That moment was her lashing out in a pathetic manner which Bond didn't respond to and you can see her lowering her head realizing she shouldn't have layed onto him so thick and told him to come back alive, probably the most compassionate you can tell someone in a professional setting such as theirs. Unthinkable in this day and age but somehow it's been co-opted by well-poisoners as proto-woke or some other garbage term.

I posted this in another thread but I was with a friend in this massive clothing store complex and there was a section with a brand that Pierce and his son were ambassadors for and every single type of person, from zoomer to boomer, stopped and admired him even in his old but graceful age and recognized him as James Bond. even these 15 year old zoomers recognized him as Bond despite his white hair and aging. tells you all you need to know.

My favourite Bonds are Moore and Pierce. They exemplify the fantasy and special appeal of James Bond perfectly. I don't really like the others. Connery reminds me too much of this uncle of mine I dislike. Dalton is good but I feel like his movies are too proto-Craig. Lazenby is whatever. Craig? I hate that he exists.

Craig doesn't count as a true Bond as he was in his own separate series which had literally nothing to do with every other Bond. The only thing that was Fleming's was the title of Casion Royale but 90% of the film had nothing to do with the book.

all of this is true except Quantum of Solace is a Fleming title

Moore was very likeable but he was too old from the start and physically too weak for the role.

Brosnan was the most handsome but (apart from Goldeneye) all his films were shite. He was also just a bad TV actor and nothing more.

Craig was just some random character/guy who wore a tuxedo. Nothing to do with James Bond, that is true.

but the movie had nothing to do with the short story. Craig is not Bond. I don't know where the new guy ATJ will fit. Will he be his own timeline or somehow continue the 1962-2002 timeline?

The problem Lazenby had was he following in the mighty footsteps of Connery and nobody could have done as good a job as Connery. Taken on his own merits and as a stand alone movie I think Lazenby fits OHMSS perfectly well. He looks great but yes he does lack the acting ability of the rest of the Bonds. That said there are moments where he's terrific, the ending when Tracy is killed is one of the best scenes in the entire series. If he'd had decided to stay with the franchise and not go full moron by literally throwing millions of dollars away he would have easily grown into the role.

I always wonder how Bond history would go if one of the actors stayed one movie more or left one earlier. Would they simply be in the same movie as their counterpart or would that have radically changed what movie got made when.
      >eg. Lazenby or Moore in Diamonds Are Forever
      >Dalton in Goldeneye or A View to Kill

        Anonymous

There's a video on Lazenby's DAF which is a radically different movie than what came out. I think it's best he didn't stay. He was never supposed to be James Bond, anyway.

          Anonymous

          >He was never supposed to be James Bond, anyway.
Not true. The producers really wanted him to stay on as Bond and offered him millions to do so. They thought he was insane when he walked away. The decision was entirely Lazenby's, which he would later regret.

        Anonymous

Contrary to popular myth Lazenby was actually supposed to next star The Man with the Golden Gun and not Diamonds are Forever. This could have been great too as Scaramanga is a GOAT villian and if they were running with the more serious take as with OHMSS then it might have been something amazing. Sadly it was not meant to be and The Man with the Golden Gun went on to become the first official Bond parody movie.

It's Connery. No debate or question. It's Sean Connery and it will always be Sean Connery. He created the character, the others just tried to live up to him. He is the single most indisputably perfect casting in the history of cinema.
