It goes from great to absolute shit after the protomolocule stuff
I recently rewatched the entire thing and after season 3 it takes a nose dive only because of the over saturation of Naomi and it gets worse with the “my wifes son” drama.
>Weapons aren't allowed on the ship >So?
He started out really strong in the book, but he became a parody of himself by around book 4, because the authors were trying too hard to write a vaguely sociopathic Barry Burton and had no idea how.
In the books naomi is just a random engineer. in the show she's the best the belt has to offer.
It's weird how hard she was pushed. Made front and center for some reason.
felt to me more like she was introduced as a solid competent engineer, but then the author slowly mary-sue ified her as a plot device to explain away le genius computer magic
wrong. naomi is a well known genius among the belters in the books and ends up the leader of the anti-laconian resistance. the actress completely ruined her character
It's good up to the end of season 3, season 4 (as I understand it) was a set up for something involving aliens, but it goes nowhere, since last 2 seasons are some brazillian soap opera about space creaturas and then series got canned. In last season I've felt that actors just got bored of acting and some scenes felt like The Room. Plus one of the actors got cancelled mid episode so his character had brain aneurysm with fart + reverb and died.
>woke trash part
It exists - for instance one of the main characters is some kind of a tube clone of 6 different people who raised him in some sort of swedish family, almost all positions of importance are occupied borderline caricature strong independent women by the end of 4th season (they don't start as caricatures, though).
>should I watch it?
There are some fun characters like dude in the hat and schizoid. First plot arcs (first 2,5 seasons, if I remember correctly) are decent and you should definitely watch them - though, they look a bit cheap, they are one of the best sci fi series made in the past 10 years.
>caricature strong independent women
I can't believe I initially loved Drummer, the chick with the eyeliner.
When she was just a sideshow, she was just a qt competent adjutant, but they made her a main character in a quite cringe way.
I am not sure the writing is entirely to blame, I think her entire gimmick like the Belter theme, accent and visual appearance (I doesn't help that she visibly aged) just gets old and almost grating fast.
Are books better? Is it worth reading them? Or last seasons weren't like game of thrones where showrunners ran out of books to base episodes upon or books become just as bad, if not worse?
The entire series is mediocre up until book 5, then the quality nosedives. I kept going, because I wanted to see where the story goes after the show's cancellation. It goes nowhere, they just introduced an opponent bigger and badder than Marco and spent the rest of the series having the characters fight them - after a 30 year time skip, so everyone's old now. And let's not forget, by each book they got more and more obnoxious with the gay shit they put in. By the end of the series every single character with a sliver of initiative of power is a woman and they waste your time with moronic POV chapters. Shit like female pirate captain's sleeping arrangements for the day and a teenage girl being rebellious against her teacher. I don't understand why those books have such good reviews
Ignore the other guy, yes the books are better
Book 6 is still weak though, basically the final act of book 5 stretched to 500 pages. Should've been 100 pages and tacked to the end of nemesis games
Seasons 1-3 are much better than the books. It's not even close. The books give you more perspective into the world, but that's about it. Book 4 is much better than season 4 and is actually quite interesting, but the authors don't expand on it at all, in book 5 they just revert the story to what it was before
is it all just faction drama for the rest of the story or do they reveal more alien bs? pls spoil it I don't want to read the books if they're trash
It's 99% faction drama, which gets more and more stale as it goes on. There is some alien bs reveal, especially in the last book, but it's very underwhelming and most of what they reveal are just plot devices for more faction drama. And ultimately, no details of the alien civilization are revealed, it's basically just "they were beings made of light with a hive mind lmao"
do people unironically "stop" at a certain season just because others told them the rest are bad? they may very well be correct, but i just couldn't do it.
I forced myself through season 4 because there was hat man and I liked alien stuff because it reminded me how I played mass effect when I got a flu in 2011somehow.
I was forcing myself through 5th and 6th seasons in order to watch scenes about colonists discovering alien zombies but they went nowhere and instead I got some boring melodrama with people trying to speak like jamaicans in 4 decorations and occasionally there was old persian woman who said some swear words and that was about it. Why did writing turn out to be so shitty? It's not like GoT where showrunners ran out of book to base series upon, and first seasons (by the looks of them) had a budget of a shoe lace, 6 cans of beer and garbage found in the abandoned warehouse, ap the budget wasn't a problem.
You're fricking dumb, dude. Literal children with some adult supervision have put rockets into space with cameras on them. If you're so fricking sure of this firmament bullshit, why don't you sail to the end of the Earth and splash some paint on the firmament so we can all see it? You won't because you're a moronic coward with zero faith or convictions. You know damn well that it doesn't exist.
I wouldn't use Holden as the primary example. He's just an insufferable limp wristed homosexual, and there are plenty of those. Holden is just a 23rd century redditor.
>The Expanse: One Ship is an anthology of five short webisodes of The Expanse, all relating to The Doctrine of One Ship – that there is only one ship, and it has countless parts as a single body has countless cells.
Season 1 is good, and it ropes you in for the rest of the show, hoping it will get that good again. But the rest of the show is not good. And it's got RE4R Ada in it, and she is predictably shit.
I read the book. Solid 5/10 imo. Cool for the first half or so when everything is new or interesting then the annoying moralgay protagonist starts to get on your nerves and the story itself isn't that great either
it's great until the amazon seasons. then they turned it into the Naomi show and it fricking sucked. Kudos for making the bad guy a young latino instead of the usual old white man tho.
He has narrow schnoz - a sign of them north indians from the desert + belter "culture" is "3rd world people (not g7) in space and mixed beyond recognition" so the character name isn't that much if a pointer for ethnic background.
He has narrow schnoz - a sign of them north indians from the desert + belter "culture" is "3rd world people (not g7) in space and mixed beyond recognition" so the character name isn't that much if a pointer for ethnic background.
The actor is Persian mixed with something else I guess (born in Canada)
Marco Inaros' name points to a Latino/Italian side of the family (Marco) and a Middle East side (Inaros was the name of a few Ancient Egypt Royals)
Then the character has the Alexander the Great fixation, which kinda blends the mediterranean europe/egypt/persian clues from name+actor origin together nicely IMHO
4th season feels like a reboot - quality of the picture is increased, but literally nothing happens until the last episode.
5th and 6th seasons are just boring latinoamerican melodrama almost entirely fixated on Naomi, her ex and their son who aren't that much interesting to observe on screen as, say, the hat man.
I'm only on season 3, but they should have let Naomi stay with the belter scum and make Gunny taker her place on the Rocinante. An Earth-Mars alliance ship to deal with the alien shit and later, hopefully, fight against the belter terrorists.
>Is it good or is it woke trash?
phrasing your question like this shows that you're incapable of feeling joy, you're just looking for stuff to agree with
Stop after season 4.
Season 3 ends with a massive change for the human race, season 4 is the first look at how humans approach said massive change and is legitiamtely a good season.
Season 5 and 6 are mostly just dogshit family drama staring Naomi, her ugly ass son, and her can't-act-to-save-his-life exhusband
Amos honestly gets ruined after S5. The vague mystery of who he is and where he comes from, and the way he acts because of it was always the highlight of his character. In S5 they just completely do away with any of the mystery and they start to develop his character to give him depth when the fact is, he never needed it. If he had just been left as a cold motherfricker that knows the law of nature and does what he needs to make sure him and his crew survive, he would have been a 10/10 character. However, we live in a time where every character must be reconstructed and we need to see the trauma of what turned him in to what he is and it just ruined the character for me. S5 was also ruined by the fact the crew was split. You had Holden alone with a crew of randoms for the majority of the season, Amos was off having his backstory written out, Alex and Bobbi where literally in a spaceship for 2/3 of the season and Naomi was given the most screentime opposite to the worst actors in the show. Instead of trying to improve on whatever the books did, S4 was a massive letdown where you're basically on one planet for the whole season. They had to write OC material to pad out the books and what they chose to do with it was give Avasarala and Bobbi have these subplots to justify their screentime in S4. The low budget and threat of cancellation at any time during their SyFy run really made them push out the best out of what they had and when they got to Amazon, they got lazy and focused on the wrong things.

To be fair the only reason it's like that is because the Alex METOO shit happened midway through production and they had to completely revamp the back half of the season. Alex and Bobby were supposed to have a big story where the save the martain PM from assassinations but that all got truncated into a 10 minute sequence and then they're in the pennace the rest of the season.
and as a result of that, the storyline where they cut the most footage in early editing - the naomi stuff - was readded into the show because they needed to cover for the now absent storyline.
ty whateverhislastname went over it a bit on the podcast he shares with Amos.
yes
stop at the end of season 3, and it will be decent.
I recently rewatched the entire thing and after season 3 it takes a nose dive only because of the over saturation of Naomi and it gets worse with the “my wifes son” drama.
Amos is the true star of the show.
>Weapons aren't allowed on the ship
>So?
He started out really strong in the book, but he became a parody of himself by around book 4, because the authors were trying too hard to write a vaguely sociopathic Barry Burton and had no idea how.
In the books naomi is just a random engineer. in the show she's the best the belt has to offer.
It's weird how hard she was pushed. Made front and center for some reason.
And ruined the show.
That is not true. She's written as a prodigy from the start, and becomes more and more obnoxious by each subsequent book
felt to me more like she was introduced as a solid competent engineer, but then the author slowly mary-sue ified her as a plot device to explain away le genius computer magic
>Made front and center for some reason.
Kek. Stronk black woman was the reason
wrong. naomi is a well known genius among the belters in the books and ends up the leader of the anti-laconian resistance. the actress completely ruined her character
Are you that guy?
This

Also martian cookie monster a cute.

My friend read the books and even he confirms . The story just takes a nosedive after that.
Are books better? Is it worth reading them? Or last seasons weren't like game of thrones where showrunners ran out of books to base episodes upon or books become just as bad, if not worse?
DO NOT READ THOSE FRICKING BOOKS
The entire series is mediocre up until book 5, then the quality nosedives. I kept going, because I wanted to see where the story goes after the show's cancellation. kek
do people unironically "stop" at a certain season just because others told them the rest are bad? they may very well be correct, but i just couldn't do it.
Same. I'll continue to watch something just to see how bad it gets.
I forced myself through season 4 because there was hat man and I liked alien stuff because it reminded me how I played mass effect when I got a flu in 2011somehow.
I was forcing myself through 5th and 6th seasons in order to watch scenes about colonists discovering alien zombies but they went nowhere and instead I got some boring melodrama with people trying to speak like jamaicans in 4 decorations and occasionally there was old persian woman who said some swear words and that was about it. the alien zombie parts of season 6 are based on a novella, those characters become important in the final 2 books
also amos eventually ends up being an alien zombie too. the last 2 books are fricking wild
nonwoke trash
marginally woke, first few seasons are interesting enough for that to not detract but after that it's a chore. still watched for she
Drummer can take my belta loada any day of the week, if you know what I'm saying
I want to pinch her's and martian marine's cheecks
>tattoo
Any movie which portrays earth as a sphere without acknowledging the firmament is by definition woke.
You're fricking dumb, dude. Literal children with some adult supervision have put rockets into space with cameras on them. If you're so fricking sure of this firmament bullshit, why don't you sail to the end of the Earth and splash some paint on the firmament so we can all see it? >Literal children with some adult supervision have put rockets into space with cameras on them
wut
It goes from great to absolute shit after the protomolocule stuff
mostly the latter but some of the former (for 1.5 seasons anyway)
it's woke af. the main white guy isn't perfect.
I wouldn't use Holden as the primary example. He's just an insufferable limp wristed homosexual, and there are plenty of those. Holden is just a 23rd century redditor.
Is the spinoff worth watching if I haven't seen this?
what spinoff
>The Expanse: One Ship is an anthology of five short webisodes of The Expanse, all relating to The Doctrine of One Ship – that there is only one ship, and it has countless parts as a single body has countless cells.
>webisodes
Oh frick that is one word you never want to hear...
The first three seasons are great. Seasons four and five are awful and I couldn't bring myself to watch season six.
it sucked in season 2, too.
if ever rule34 was needed, it was needed for... The Expanse
Season 1 is good, and it ropes you in for the rest of the show, hoping it will get that good again. But the rest of the show is not good. And it's got RE4R Ada in it, and she is predictably shit.

I thought evil space pirate captain pol pot was indian
Inaros sounds rather latin than indian to me.
He has narrow schnoz - a sign of them north indians from the desert + belter "culture" is "3rd world people (not g7) in space and mixed beyond recognition" so the character name isn't that much if a pointer for ethnic background.
his race is belta, inyalowda!
The actor is Persian mixed with something else I guess (born in Canada)
Marco Inaros' name points to a Latino/Italian side of the family (Marco) and a Middle East side (Inaros was the name of a few Ancient Egypt Royals)

Stopped watching when the guy kissed the girl who turned into the alien blue thing or whatever, did I miss anything good?
no
I truly hate that they made a Christian also a Lesbian but turns out she's a Methodist so it's historically accurate.
I'm close to finishing season 3, so this might be the last kino season?
4th season feels like a reboot - quality of the picture is increased, but literally nothing happens until the last episode.
5th and 6th seasons are just boring latinoamerican melodrama almost entirely fixated on Naomi, her ex and their son who aren't that much interesting to observe on screen as, say, the hat man.
I fricking hate Belters so much, it's unreal. I've never seen a worse ethnicity in my life.
It's kino
was miller just a simp?
Does it blacks, chinks, gay, trannies, dykes, girlbosses? Dropped.
Season 1 to 3 - Kino
Season 4 - okay
Season 5 - bad
Haven't watched 6 and won't
I'm only on season 3, but they should have let Naomi stay with the belter scum and make Gunny taker her place on the Rocinante. An Earth-Mars alliance ship to deal with the alien shit and later, hopefully, fight against the belter terrorists.
A little bit of both
Stop with season 3 and it's one of the best shows of all time.
>woke trash?
Far too highbrow for braindead people like you.
s01-03 is unadulterated kino. S04 is okay and doesn't deserve that much hate. S05 and onwards is pretty meh and amazon'fied
is good and the woke parts are also good Roberta draper what you consider a diversity hire is believable
everything is good except Naomi nagata few last seasons, is kinda jarring
As much as I don't like le grey drama in space, starring unlikable people, the first season was ok. Didn't feel compelled to return to more tho
The propoganda worked, I'm watching season 1 and I need to breed me a cute black queen.
>Is it good or is it woke trash?
phrasing your question like this shows that you're incapable of feeling joy, you're just looking for stuff to agree with
>remember how cool it was when agadodoshaloo said frick?! now she says it every other word she's a badass woman!
As soon as the show went to Amazon, they pretty much dropped the Belter creole speak entirely.
I was so sad about this.
Stop after season 4.

I want to be crushed by Bobby D's thighs!
Both!
Miller was great. Dawes, Ashford and Drummer were great, but the wokeness killed the belters as the series progressed.
