>The film received mixed reviews, with praise directed towards the vocal performances, the animation and references to the wider Disney canon, but criticism towards its screenplay and the songs; the lyrics in particular were the subject of derision from critics and across social media.
>It grossed roughly $254 million worldwide against a production budget of $175–200 million, becoming a box office disappointment.
Unironically what went wrong?
It sucked ass.
made by comittee and DIE
>rightoid too moronic to write "DEI" correctly
>leftoid too moronic to realize that said rightoid intentionally rearranged the acronym to make a joke
That box office total wouldn't even be as big as THAT were it not for the mindless Japs turning out for muh kawaii staru.
Domestic total was something like 60 million which is actually pathetic. Asia carried this garbage hard.
I'm pretty sure the Japanese goodwill is at its lowest at this point. If they don't turn out for Inside Out 2 you know it's over for Pixar.
You know how people joke about the villain making sense in movies? No other movie on earth has that problem worse than Wish, and that's kind of the biggest problem for me. This horrible mentality that you should never WORK to make your dreams come true, that you should just have your dreams handed to you. And if someone in power DOESN'T hand it over without question, they're LE EVIL!!!1!
There's a point in the movie where they need to sing a rebellion song about how much of a tyrant he is and how he needs to be stopped, just because he didn't grant some peoples wishes.
On that note, another really bad message this movie pushes is the message that NOBODY has ever, nor will ever, wish for something bad, selfish or dangerous. Which frankly is just insane
It's commie gobbledyasiatic.
Unironically, consider the argument:
>Man that represents The State has the power to grant anyone everything they want, but won't, because evil favoritism/nepotism, etc
>The "Ideal State" is one where everyone is equally MAGICALLY given everything they want by it
Because Disney somehow made Twisted but from the perspective of the lying "Hero".
>"I granted 14 wishes last year, come on that's a high percent!"
Yes. It is, actually that sounds fricking excessive and you SHOULD be granting less.
That's what I'm saying! How do you frick up a villain this badly?
Instead of making a princess movie, they made an activist movie. The reason why people love Disney Princesses is preciously because they are princessy. Over the last few decades there has been more anti-princess princesses and at first it worked because it was fresh and new and it brought some variety in the princess line-up. But eventually they overdid it. The trope became stale.
They foolishly made it about the moors instead of the moops.
They wrote pop songs instead of musical theatre numbers
I like the genderbent doc
>Inside Out 2
Has been in production for years.
>Frozen 3 and 4
Had been in production for a year or so as one film until israeliteery demanded it be split in two
>Moana 2
Yes, this one was a Disney Plus show until Wish bombing sent Iger into panic mode, will likely be shit as it's an Atlantis 2 situation
>Zootopia 2
Been in production for years
>Toy Story 5
Unnecessary and pointless but was in production ages before Wish
Watched this in cinema. Music feels like a talking with some music-like noice as a bacground. I cant even call it a songs. Some kind of weak hiphop.
It's called the Lin Manuel curse
That's the inherent issue with musicals. Songs should be used mostly to express feelings and drive home a singular point, not to tell the entire plot.
Other way would be to combine it with something. For example "I'll Make a Man Out of You" from the good mulan combines the song with a training montage.
The most frustrating thing about the plot was how easily it could have been fixed. It could just be as simple as
> Magnifico only grants the easy wishes so the people can fund his magic research
Or better yet
> Magnifico harvests the magic in people's wishes, that's why he doesn't grant that many
magnifico if he beast
You mean if he interesting.
Artstyle was hideous. Looked like if you took Tangled or Frozen and then made them with 2003 Technology and also washed out the colors. Very unengaging to look at
It’s Disneyslop reduced to its sloppiest elements. It’s like someone took the worst aspects of Disney princess movies and made a movie consisting entirely them.
my baby
It literally just wasn't good. The songs weren't catchy, the characters weren't engaging with no real arcs, and the humor really boiled down to "cute goat with manly voice." Ariana DeBose is a great singer, but just a voice isn't enough to carry a film.
The animation style was amazing, but I spent most of this movie scrolling on my phone. There was nothing to hold my attention.
Immediately afterwards, I turned on Encanto for the umpteenth time. New Disney can do good, catchy, lasting songs.
>Encanto
Not bad, but the songs in it are still absolutely mogged by Moana.
"Shiny" was amazing, but I still find myself with "Surface Pressure" randomly stuck in my head more than anything else.
Yeah both movies have great soundtracks, and I think it just comes down to personal preference. I personally think How Far I'll Go is a near perfect character song, and We Know The Way is the right way to do an exposition song so I have a preference for it.
But yeah at the end of the day I couldn't name a single song from Wish, they all just blend together into nothing.
>But yeah at the end of the day I couldn't name a single song from Wish, they all just blend together into nothing.
100%, I keep trying to remember a song and all I end up with is repeating "I wish" from Into the Woods instead.
I really don't understand why everyone creams their pants over surface pressure, it is the most by-the-book pop song in any disney musical ever.
>but I spent most of this movie scrolling on my phone. There was nothing to hold my attention.
Disgusting zoomie behavior
no Twinkerbell
but actually, it was a lack of communication between departments in favor of pumping out a product as fast as possible
