A long while ago. The final bit with the rebels and Bergan and Doir's mutiny has come and pass, all that's left is the Liberation arc, which will be the final two weeks.

On a different note, what are your thoughts about the P-Bandai SMP Voltes V including literally every other weapon besides the Tenkuu-ken that wasn't in the base release? Scummy AF?

Kinda disappointed with that arc and Commander Robinson's death, honestly. Diand never even became autonomous or a beast fighter. Still holding out hope for the final arc though.

          >Commander Robinson's death
Shut your prostitute mouths. Commander Robinson's death was perfect drama-wise. In the anime, it was just him dying by helicopter death while Megumi flies away on a jetpack (lol?).

The final salute to Robinson and Jamie reminiscing about her dad was also perfect.

Think of it like a fanfic, but instead of a Mary Sue you have a Villain Sue. She's the original character - Do Not Steal version of a love rival that was literally imported from Filipino telenovela tropes.

No, because the main villain wasn't his sister. They're not even in the same parts, Heinel shows up in the second half, when Garuda is the villain.

The story of the villain you're thinking of is that many, many years ago, Boazan and Barm went to war. But a Boazanian noblewoman and a Barmian man fell in love and had two children who had horns and wings together. The lovers were killed for sexing up the enemy during war, but the children managed to get away. The elder sister was consumed with vengeance and came back in the time of Victory Five to destroy as much as possible. Her sister ends up hanging out with Hyoma and switching sides.

As for Heinel, he survived the Voltes ending but lost a horn and gained a deadly cough. He shows back up to help save his brothers from Garuda. That's pretty much it.

Not in Victory Five? The sisters there are named Juelion and Belion.

If you're talking about the Marin that was in the unused draft episode of Voltes, then she was Catherine's sister, not Heinel's.

      Anonymous

In fairness to the criticisms against VVL, Nicky Larson also has its share of annoying side characters and "French humor" (Jerry Lewis style slapstick humor, if you will).

Both would've been perfect adaptations if you get rid of the unnecessary original additions to them.

how is the slapstick any different from the City Hunter anime

"Rom com sexy slapstick by a horny Japanese man" is a bit different from "Idiot sidekick killing hamster with microwave" or "Loser salaryman getting beat up by bodyguards", methinks.

Like they don't belong in the original series or something.

The parts that are from City Hunter are fine and obviously the original parts featuring "French humor" is horrible.

I don't understand that word nowadays. It just means 'person I don't like because I disagree with him' to me. Heinel isn't even an incel, he's a prince. Princes of his appearance and stature usually attract all the women.

Isn't a Pacific Rim mech much bigger? I don't know if Voltes V has the arms to penetrate Gypsy Danger for example, even if it's faster by a lot.

Those bloopers at the end of the episode... This is standard issue problems if your horns are built in your wig. Funny, from the nephew of Connie Sison (mentioned last Tuesday in a midday news show).

Michael V also did good in his Octo-1 rendition of Aniki's song. Really wished they insert a memorial for him in the finale. Or maybe all these covers during the show's run is enough of a memorial...

It's guaranteed money now so they'll probably push Alden Richards for this since he was the voice actor for the 2015 reairing of the anime, then Bianca Umali for Erika. But if they're going to cast her as Erika then I'd rather they go for the real life couple for the chemistry with Ruru Madrid. I don't like these choices though. I'd like a more elegant actress and a more martial arts proficient MC.

Double reference. Miguel was cucked because Bianca never told him she was in a long term relationship with Ruru. Alden was cucked because Maine never told him she was in a relationship with Arjo, now her husband. Both guys wanted to get into a serious relationship with their loveteams.
Anyway it won't work anymore because the chemistry is already gone.

Say, if Daimos is next, and people would all over the world (not just Japan, too) would push for a live-action Combattler, instead of that weird copout ending from a second group of aliens who are enemies of the Campbellians, I want it styled like Shaider's two-part finale where Gavan and Sharivan assists him in finishing the job, except here, Voltes and Daimos appear as backup (something that was unable to be accomplished in the anime for obvious reasons). That way, all eleven pilots would get together when the mission is complete.

It's guaranteed money now so they'll probably push Alden Richards for this since he was the voice actor for the 2015 reairing of the anime, then Bianca Umali for Erika. Its been ages since we held malice against the Japanese in general. The last vestiges of hatred from the war is because of the Comfort Women who the Japs still dont recognize. This is also a contention in SK and Mainland China. Other than that, post war Jap diplomacy has them concentrating on building up economic projects in neighboring countries trying to do the whole Co-Prosperity Sphere thing manually.

That and Xi Jinping's aggressive diplomacy has pushed us even closer as Western bastions and main supply hubs for Taiwan in case an invasion does happen.

Not defending the IJA but the US also enslaved us for display as savage monkeys during the 1904 World Fair. And until now it's treated not as the serious issue that it is like they do with Black American issues, but just as some learning trivia for schoolchildren. You can imagine my shock when my niece went and asked me about it for homework.

for all my misgivings, I thought it turned out alright. could have been a LOT worse. The mecha carried it on it shoulders but the changes are mostly alright if not executed poorly, giving out the twist early so youd get some attachment to Ma Gou before she dies, giving Daijirou something to do, introducing Kazarin and Hainel being in a loveless physical relationship that ended up being an emotional relation.

7/10, decent foray into soap operakatsu. Just edit it a bit and trim the fat.

When I said OC content I meant GOOD OC content not just some. I'm completely fine with filler arcs if they expand the world or give characters additional dimensions beyond how they act during wartime or whatever the premise of the show is. The melodrama barely added anything and in some places detracted from it like Eva's revenge.

Again, network wars. Nothing to take seriously. Most Filipinos watching VVL don't use Twitter. FB is still the largest social media platform in PH.

Have Americans held malice against Japan since WWII? I mean, aside from the crass "Two nukes weren't enough" jokes that crop up from time to time.

I mean, Cinemaphile is an American version of the 2ch Japanese message board, right?

                >Have Americans held malice against Japan since WWII?
I wouldn't say it's malice but there has been an underlying disdain for Japanese stuff in the entertainment sector for decades now.

Did Voltes lost its right arm in the anime as well? The realism was fascinating in the final duel.

I haven't watched the anime for a decade+ now but I don't remember it losing an arm in the anime.

I'm waiting for the Japanese dub. It's my preferred rewatch version, just like with Nicky Larson.

I think the Japanese dub will improve two things. Emotion from the main cast and the absence of the made up language cringe. I don't deny that coming up with fictional languages is a skill and Doctolero has been great at doing that for her fantaseryes but I'm not trying to hear another HOMSAK from the cast and I don't think the JP dub will be adapting it since there is no need

Only the initial post is mine
It's cope because they know that most Filipinos don't like Eva just from Twitter alone, not collective Japanese opinion. So far only one Japanese autist hates Eva.

It's not collective Japanese opinion because it's not out there yet. The minority watching the livestreams are generally lukewarm towards Eva because only one Japanese person so far has reacted negatively to her and there are two who like her. I don't need good luck to prove something that's not there yet.

I thought "The way you act is very dishorabu" was a meme, but apparently is very real and missing from VVL.

It's him explaining why VVL lacks "honor", moron.

Boring episodes 71-75 which was not in the anime version the FIGHTING SCENES of the Voltes Team versus disciples of General Watson. Even the death of General Robinson was a cheap scene, with him dying on the ground.

      What wiki is that?

      >Emotion from the main cast
You think the main cast lacked emotion? Even when it comes to death scenes, like Jamie with her dad or the Armstrong Brothers with their mother?

Maybe a better word would be consistency. The main cast weren't consistent. Sometimes they would act great in drama scenes and sometimes they were just forcing it because no tears were coming out, like the nth time PAPAAAA was gone. You could hear Little John's exhaustion sometimes when saying his lines. Jamie with her dad was fine along with Mama Armstrong. The best is Zardoz with Zandra.

Reminder that you've been doing major damage control every time VVL is criticized by the Japanese.

Kek he can cry all he wants. VVL CGI > all tokus. There's a reason there's more praise for it from the Japanese than their own shit like Seiya, I mean Knights of the Zodiac which was Hollywood funded. $60 million. VVL was $19 million. Which is why the damage control comes from him, not from us.

I've said that I don't like Eva, or the romance in general. I've also criticized the inconsistent acting of the main 5.

          >From one guy, that guy.
So he's the same as this guy? [...]
That's his alt? Kek, you're delusional.

That's not criticism, dumbass. The Japanese purist's tweets were criticism. It's true that VVL wasn't THE top trend, for example.

          >You're making stuff up about me in your head.
What are you talking about? I'm saying if there's only 3-4 people here on Cinemaphile who's interested in what Japan thinks, then there are probably just a few people in Japan who cares what Filipinos think about VVL.

Fricking schizo poster who replies to everyone LMAO.

          >What are you talking about?
I'm talking about your delusional homosexual ass misrepresenting my points. I'm not even sure what you're about. I don't even care about how many people here care about Japanese opinion on VVL, I was talking about Japanese opinion on foreign opinion like Pinoy only.

          >Fricking schizo poster who replies to everyone LMAO.
Because the thread is dying and it's clear that no matter how fricking rich a Pinoy is to be able to access Cinemaphile, they can still be dumb as bricks and have zero reading comprehension, since more than half of what you're accusing me of aren't true

Maybe someday you'll learn to accept criticism instead of explaining it away, thinking that your favorite show is flawless.

Like I said, they're not criticism.

          >VVL CGI > all tokus.
Cringe. I hope you really don't think that way.

          I do, deal with it.

          >How the frick are you connecting one conversation into another separate tweet?
That's one long chain tweet complaining about how dishonorable Zardoz acts compared to Heinel, morono.

The chain is a wholly different conversation from that one tweet talking about Heinel. You should've taken the hint when I didn't bite the Volt Lander bait
