The Flash

How did it bomb so hard? I was under the impression that this basically DC's Spiderman, so why did the audience hate it?

Ezra Miller is neither the popular actor nor good casting for a superhero as Warner seemed to think he is.

The Flash's appeal is being a working-class, everyman type of hero, who has the powers of a god but remains grounded on a way that not even Superman can achieve due to his alien birthright. Part of the character's fun is seeing him in his day job as a CSI, his relationship with his girlfriend, his interactions with the people of his city, his cheesy, but charismatic and surprisingly efficient villains, and just the general joy he gets out of superspeed and all the pseudo-scientific bullshit that comes from it.

The movie eschews all of that in favor of a boring Multiverse would-be epic with none of the heart, none of the lore, none of the supporting characters, none of what actually makes the character stand out. Instead, they rely entirely on cheap nostalgia and more popular heroes in supporting characters to prop up their humorless, nails-on-a-chalkboard annoying interpretation of the Flash... And they they fricking have him play double duty and make a purposefully younger and even more insufferable version of him.

The Rogues are some of my favorite comic characters. In a way I’m glad they’ll likely never end up on the big screen. Hollywood writers wouldn’t be able to write blue collar villains with god like powers and not have them quipping and acting like dipshits the entire time.

That's nice, here's the reality, nobody gives a frick about that homosexual the Flash. He is ridiculous, even for a superhero he is fricking ridiculous, his power is so fricking boring and any attempt to make it interesting is, you guessed it, fricking ridiculous. Add in the moronic power creep and moronic villains, and you get a recipe for nobody giving a flying. motherfricking frick about this guy, as proven by this fricking abortion which is only literally only talked about for having a smoking hot latina, and for how superlative the amount of money it lost was.

Also DCEU fans, the ones that made BvS, Suicide Squad, Wonder Woman and Aquaman runaway successes, are fricking gone. This was a Zack Snyder project for better or worse, without him they should have just cancelled everything on the spot. The main advantage DCEU had over MCU and the reason the first 5 movies made like a billion more than the first 5 marvel movies is that the DCEU used to have SOVL, but that Snyder's soul. Without him it's just random nonsense building up to nothing

Chronically online fans don't make much box office, most of them comes from general audience/casual moviegoers, also snyder was fired because warner wanted at least 1 billion from bvs, they considered it a failure

After BvS chronically online marvel fans thought the DC brand was dead, and then the abysmally bad Suicide Squad made $750 million without China, Wonder Woman made $800 million effortlessly and Aquaman made more than any Thor, Guardians of the Galaxy, Ant Man and Spider-Man (excluding the last one because of the Raimi nostalgia pandering) movies ever. The brand was better than ever, it was after the Josstice League fiasco that everything went to shit

      Wrong take.

Spidey was also the everyman hero.

DC fricked up again as they usually do, in many ways. First timing. How they fricked the Snyder movies, they rushed em. First step: Superman origin movie. Second step: Introduce Batman and Wonder Woman in a movie where Superman fights Batman and then it's the Death of Superman. They did Avengers after Iron Man 1 and gave it the Tony Stark snap death scene from Endgame. They built no momentum.

So what do they do with their embattled production spearheaded by a controversial and unpopular lead actor? Let years pass on what little hype remained after the re editing of Justice League and THEN release the movie. Like releasing Eternals in 2028 after no movies for years, how much money do you expect to make?

Then they go all in on this piece of shit. Word of mouth as lukewarm at best. And Ezra had been panned for the role for years, not even the lgbtq people backed him. They fell for the sunk cost fallacy real hard.

Imagine how bad Batgirl was, that even the clowns who release this won't release that.

The Flash is a character who's powers seem awesome at first but look worse and worse the longer you think about them or compare them to other fictional heros. The only way a character like Flash could possibly be interesting would be to treat his power like Platos ring and see the character tempted to steal and decieve to his advantage and perhaps the negative consequences of being able to get away with it so effortlessly.

        Anonymous

Just have him experience real time when he uses his powers. From his point of view, he's moving at normal speed and everything else is slowed. From our perspective he can run across the country in a few seconds but to him, he's taking a year. He should age faster than normal people due to this. So everytime he uses his powers he's literally shortening his life span.

          Anonymous

They already sort of have this with him eating a lot because he burns a lot of calories. Just take it further. He can run a city block in a nanosecond but he would be just as tired as a normal person would be after sprinting a city block. If he walks, he might take 1 full second. This way you can give his powers limitations without taking away their effectiveness and can explain why he isn't everywhere instantly while still letting him be as fast or slow as the story demands.

Spiderman got a lot going for it's box office success, holland zendaya duo alone already has massive audience, cumberbatch, months long "leak"/"speculation" for the nostalgia cameos, plus andrew garfield was on the up at the time so people were expecting him. Its pretty much how the multiverse nostalgia mash could only work, box office wise

            This

The general audience was okay with MCU Spider-Man and also had MCU goodwill so it didn't get affected like a lot of Phase 4 and 5.
The general audience didn't care for Ezra's Flash and was okay with Gustin's Flash
The DCEU has a fanbase but too many botched productions

It’s gone through a lot of production issues which means it was just poorly budgeted and had some very expensive marketing, like the trailer during the Super Bowl. Also a decent amount of people are privy to Ezra Miller being a psycho so wouldn’t see it on virtue.

Also Ezra Miller got in legal trouble and WB execs got into feuds with everyone associated with the DCEU. Snyder, Ray Fisher, Cavill, and directors and writers working on various projects.
