What does it take for a Disney show to not get cancelled so early?
Big city greens and Star vs are probably the ones who lived the most so far. I am sure most would think that 3 seasons is a decent amount but I feel like at least 5 seasons is the sweet spot.

How many seasons do people expect kids' cartoons to have? I feel like it's always been fairly unusual for a cartoon to make it past 3 seasons. Things like Spongebob, Adventure Time and MLP are exceptions rather than the rule.

no animated disney show has gotten there yet. big city greens… maybe. do reboot seasons like proud family and phineas and ferb count?

this is kinda crazy to me which cartoons are you watching where this is the norm? cause i feel, like, even the average Cinemaphile sitcoms and prestige tv don’t get that much usually. it’s not the 80s/90s anymore.

          i don't think so

true but I also kind of feel all these shows have been cut too short. lie you put a few years into production, hire people, get the ball rolling just so you can deliver two seasons and then just vault the frick out of it forever. Seems lie a waste. The fact these shows had almost no merchandising or marketing just makes it all more baffling to me.
I know every show can't be a banger but having all of these shows with almost no support irks me. For as much shit people give to nick and CN at least they have a few shows that are long running.

Merch gets made when a show becomes popular enough to warrant it, unless the show itself is an advertisement for existing products like Transformers or MLP. Look at something like Adventure Time or Rick & Morty, ratings success came first, merch followed. A TV production company doesn't want to take risks on making merch that might not sell for a show that might not be popular and kids largely don't even buy merch any more. Adult collectors do. So the only way you get merch is to develop a large enough adult fanbase with disposable incomes. I don't think any of these shows did that. Small, obsessive adult fandoms yes, but not enough to warrant mass produced merch.

While it doesn't explain much on why Big City Greens, which attracts and attains a good amount of viewership via reruns are being blackballed from ever getting any merch beyond graphic tees and phone holders.

Considering kids nowadays being watch cartoons as they gravitate towards watching vids on tiktok and YouTube for skibidi toilet and vidya.

BCG is popular with kids rather than adults though (at least I think). What merch would you sell? What would kids buy? I don't know if you know any kids but these days they're all spending their money on Game Pass subscriptions and V-bucks, Anon.

Well as far as I know, Amphibia was brought to the intended conclusion rather than being cancelled. Molly was at least given the benefit of an ending episode, even though it was intended to be a three season story

This. Third season would have mostly controlled by Sam King and her lackies. If anything, Molly dodged a bullet by getting cancelled.

None of these IP have merch for them. Prove me wrong, this has to be the reason. Unlike in the 2000s, where nearly all successful shows with 5+ seasons to them all had merch to carry them.

    >It was evening in Brighton, the sun was about to set.
    >Molly McGee sat in a chair. Ever since Scratch had left, she had been feeling a bit gloomy.
    >She sat quietly and sighed to herself "Now I'm all alone".
    >Suddenly, a lightbulb went off in her head. "Wait a minute, I'm all alone." To this day, Molly isn't sure why she did what she was about to do but she's glad that she did.
    >She had a look around, stood up from the chair, pulled down her skirt, shorts and panties, kicked them off to the side and then walked to the backdoor.
    >Molly stepped into her backyard with nothing on from the waist down. She didn't know why she was doing this but she wanted to see it through.
    >She looked around, then pulled off her shirt and vest. Suddenly, Molly now felt much more relaxed.
    >She stood there in her backyard for several minutes in just her shoes and socks, basking in the setting sun.
    >Molly had lost Scratch but had gained a new secret hobby.
