Final Chapter's editing is too aggressive and production issues meant the transition from the previous movie is jarring, but I like it a lot.

Paul W.S. Anderson has never directed a film that didn't feel characteristically his. His remake of Death Race is super cool and a clear influence on Mad Max Fury Road. Len Wiseman has done some good stuff, but he lacks vision. His Total Recall remake had no soul. Wiseman absolutrly deserves credit for Underworld making female vamps cool, though.

The new Resident Evil show looks very promising, and is clearly paying homage to the Andersonverse while not being a lame ripoff of it. Be interesting to see if Anderson comments on it.
Beginning with the guy holding the pipe reminded me of RE: Outbreak. The rest of the trailer looked kind of dumb to me. The only RE media that even looks recognizeably like RE to me are the first 2 Anderson movies and I guess the CGI movies although I didn't like those

It's normal for adaptations to develop their own aesthetic. "The Batman" doesn't look like the old Batman comics because it's an adaptation of an adaptation of an adaptation of an adaptation. If you haven't seen the six Resident Evil movies you might not recognize the TV show as being like Resident Evil, but it's pulling pretty blatantly from it left and right while also pulling from the games, and probably the books to some degree. (The Anderson films were fond of cribbing from the books, too.) If you never watched Blade Runner and only read Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep, you might not recognize Blade Runner 2049. But the influence is clear to anyone who's seen that movie.
Billie Wesker is infected when bitten by a zombie dog in the modern day (first episode AFAIK), but she's alive, and working for Umbrella in the 2030s. I'm still trying to decide which character in the show is the Alice replacement. Jade makes some sense because she's the plucky protagonist. But Billie being an engineered anomaly that is infected but doesn't turn into a zombie is 1:1 with Alice in RE: Apocalypse onwards. Also, the glowing red devices all the Umbrella soldiers wear seem vaguely reminiscent of the mind control devices in previous incarnations, so maybe there's a bit of RE Retribution Jill influence mixed in there (who is rather distinct from RE5 Jill despite looking similar).
I hope Milla Jovovich gets a cameo appearance in Season 2 or something.
